A redesigned MT 60 RS™ for the new DUCATI SCRAMBLER

Ducati has chosen Pirelli for the new SCRAMBLER – a contemporary motorcycle that offers the perfect mix of tradition and modernity expressing the pure essence of motorcycling – confirming the strong link between the two Italian companies. The MT 60 RS™ is the tyre designed by Pirelli technicians for the latest model launched by the Borgo Panigale company in four versions: Icon, Urban Enduro, Full Throttle and Classic. The front tyre 3,00’’x 18’’ and the rear of 5,50’’x17’’ of the DUCATI SCRAMBLER are designed to be lightweight and will be fitted with the new enduro street tyres by Pirelli, the MT 60 RS™ 110/80 R18 front and 180/55 R17 rear, as original equipment. The new MT60 RS™ was specifically made for the SCRAMBLER with a dedicated tread design providing excellent performance on any surface. The MT 60 RS™ is a product that has been present in Pirelli’s enduro street tyre range for many years and has always been a benchmark for the segment, thanks to its ability to combine sports-road performance with traction on unpaved roads. During the development of new sizes required by Ducati for the four versions of the SCRAMBLER, Pirelli totally redesigned the MT 60 RS™ in terms of specifications and performance. The tread pattern presents larger and more varying-sized tread elements along the edge, providing a multi-pitch design instead of the single-pitch that characterised the original tyre. This results in a significant decrease in the land/sea ratio and in a greater contact surface with the reduction of tread block movement.  These changes provide a reduction in braking distance, as well as improved front tyre stability both in a straight line and when leaning into bends. Finally, thanks to the multi-pitch tread design, the noise generated by the tyre rolling on tarmac is significantly decreased compared to the original MT 60 RS™. Upgrades to the tyre are completed by the use of new compounds exploiting the experience gained by Pirelli in recent years. On the front a balanced silica/carbon black compound derived directly from the DIABLO ROSSO™ II has been used, providing a dynamic ride and high level of grip on both dry and wet surfaces. On the rear, a high silica content sport touring compound has been chosen to ensure good mileage and a high level of grip in the wet. Last but not least, Pirelli completely redesigned the structure of the front tyre to become radial with a 0° steel belt instead of the previous radial with cross-ply belt structure. The new structure brings significant benefits in terms of stability and steering precision.
