In WorldSBK Rea wins all the races, whereas in WorldSSP300 victory goes to Scott Deroue Álvaro Bautista and Randy Krummenacher are the 2019 winners of the Pirelli Best Lap Awards as they are the riders who did the most race fast laps in their respective classes

After crowning the WorldSBK and WorldSSP300 championship titles in Magny-Cours, today at Losail Circuit Sports Club in Doha, Qatar, the FIM WorldSSP Championship was also completed, with the triumph of Randy Krummenacher and Yamaha. In WorldSBK, on the other hand, reigning World Champion Jonathan Rea took no prisoners, winning all three races scheduled for the weekend and relegating the Ducati and Yamaha riders to the lower steps of the podium. After taking pole position and winning Race 1 on Friday, today the Northern Irishman made no mistakes and triumphed in both the Tissot Superpole® Race and in Race 2.It was his second win of the WorldSSP300 season for Dutchman Scott Derouewhile newly crowned World Champion Manuel Gonzalez finished fourth.

For the record, with 12 race fast laps, Álvaro Bautista is the 2019 winner of the Pirelli Best Lap Award in the WorldSBK class, while Randy Krummenacher took the prize in WorldSSP for doing 4 race fast laps.

With this round, the 2019 MOTUL FIM World Superbike Championship comes to a close, and with it Pirelli’s sixteenth consecutive season in the role of Official Sole Tyre Supplier for all the classes in the Championship. This year in the premier class, Pirelli definitively sealed the switch to the larger sizes of 125/70 on the front and 200/65 on the rear, developing a complete range of compounds which will be available on the market next year for all professional or amateur riders and for track day enthusiasts. The 2019 range solutions demonstrated outstanding performance in all the classes and, as happened in Qatar, they were often, even in difficult situations, the preferred choice of the riders with respect to development solutions, which demonstrates their versatility and adaptability to the characteristics and weather conditions encountered on different circuits all over the world.

Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK / Kawasaki ZX-10RR), Randy Krummenacher (Bardahl Evan Bros. WorldSSP Team / Yamaha YZF R6) and Manuel Gonzalez (Kawasaki ParkinGO Team / Kawasaki Ninja 400) are the 2019 World Champions respectively in the WorldSBK, WorldSSP and WorldSSP300 classes.

WORLDSSP RACE:

At 5:15 in the afternoon local time, the most anxiously awaited race of the weekend started, namely the FIM Supersport World Championship race, fundamental in deciding the Championship winner. After taking Superpole® on Friday, Federico Caricasulo (Bardahl Evan Bros. WorldSSP Team / Yamaha YZF R6) started from pole position, but he was unable to be incisive at the start. On the other hand, Jules Cluzel (GMT94 Yamaha / Yamaha YZF R6) started very well, keenly aware that in order to win the title, he would need to win the race and hope for poor performance from the Italian and from Swiss rider Randy Krummenacher (Bardahl Evan Bros. WorldSSP Team / Yamaha YZF R6). The latter, however, had the luxury of being able to ride a conservative race, finding himself on the grid with an 8-point advantage over teammate Caricasulo and 22 points ahead of Frenchman Cluzel.Cluzel stayed in the lead until just past the mid-race point when he was forced to yield his position, first to former world champion Lucas Mahias (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing / Kawasaki ZX-6R) and later to Isaac Viñales (Kallio Racing / Yamaha YZF R6). In the meantime, Caricasulo moved into fifth position and Krummenacher followed him in sixth, while Corentin Perolari (GMT94 YAMAHA / Yamaha YZF R6) was ahead of them in fourth place.Cluzel and Viñales battled it out for second place, with the Frenchman gaining the upper hand in the end.During the twelfth lap, Caricasulo managed to get past Perolari, while Krummenacher remained in sixth position, bolstered by the advantage of being able to manage his Championship points lead.On the thirteenth lap, Krummenacher also managed to overtake Perolari for fifth, but shortly thereafter, the Frenchman got past him again.Lucas Mahias (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing / Kawasaki ZX-6R) went on to win the race ahead of Jules Cluzel (GMT94 Yamaha / Yamaha YZF R6), second, and Isaac Viñales (Kallio Racing / Yamaha YZF R6). With his fifth-place finish, Randy Krummenacher (Bardahl Evan Bros. WorldSSP Team / Yamaha YZF R6) was crowned 2019 FIM Supersport World Champion.

WORLDSBK RACE 2:

In Race 2, reigning World Champion Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK / Kawasaki ZX-10RR) got off the line well when the red lights went out, but Spaniard Álvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati / Ducati Panigale V4 R) was aggressive straight away, trying to make life difficult for the Northern Irishman from the first lap. Champion and runner-up set an unsustainable race pace for the group of followers, led by the other Ducati rider, Chaz Davies (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati / Ducati Panigale V4 R), who did the race fast lap on the fourth lap.On the eighth lap, Rea, Bautista and Davies were within just over half a second of one another, forming a compact leading trio.Early in the tenth lap Bautista had a go at overtaking Rea on the finishing straight, but the Northern Irishman was able to fend off the Spaniard’s attack and in the meantime, Chaz Davies had closed the gap and caught up with his teammate. In the final part of the race, Jonathan Rea managed to pull the pin and open up a gap ahead of the Ducati riders, taking his advantage to more than two seconds while Chaz Davies gained the upper hand against his teammate on the fourteenth lap, moving into second place.Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK / Kawasaki ZX-10RR) finished first under the chequered flag for the third time this weekend ahead of Chaz Davies and Álvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati / Ducati Panigale V4 R). Fourth place went to Alex Lowes (Pata Yamaha WorldSBK Team / Yamaha YZF R1) with Toprak Razgatlioglu, fifth, finishing as the best independent team rider.

WORLDSSP300 RACE:

The final race of the year of the FIM Supersport 300 World Championship was won by Scott Deroue (Kawasaki MOTOPORT / Kawasaki Ninja 400), who finished first ahead of compatriot and teammate Koen Meuffels (Kawasaki MOTOPORT / Kawasaki Ninja 400), second, and Italian Bruno Ieraci (Kawasaki GP Project / Kawasaki Ninja 400), third.

The Pirelli solutions chosen by the riders for the WorldSBK and WorldSSP races:

Compared to Race 1, in the Tissot Superpole® Race, rider tyre choice was rather different, especially due to the shorter distance of the race, but also because of the higher temperatures on the track from 4 pm, compared to 8 pm when Race 2 starts. On the front, the standard 125/70 SC1 (option A) remained the most popular choice by far. Only Tom Sykes, Michael Van Der Mark and Toprak Razgatlioglu preferred the X1071 SC2 development solution. As for the rear, 60% of the riders opted for the SCX solution (option X), while the remaining 40% used the new standard SC0 tyre (option B). The only rider who chose the Y0446 SC0 development tyre (option A) was Jonathan Rea.

In the WorldSSP race, rider choice was practically unanimous. On the rear, everyone opted for the standard SC0 (option A), whereas on the front, no fewer than 17 out of the 23 riders on the grid chose the standard SC2 tyre (option B).

In Race 2, on the front the riders substantially confirmed the choices they had made yesterday for Race 1. On the front, the standard 125/70 SC1 (option A) was chosen by 2/3 of the riders on the grid, whereas for the rear the standard 200/65 SC0 (option B) still remained the most used solution, with only six riders preferring the Y0446 development alternative (option A).
