Pirelli remains the preferred supplier of original equipment in the premium and prestige sectors: 266 new homologations in 2014, contributing to a total of 1846 worldwide

The world’s most advanced and prestigious SUVs wear Pirelli P Zero and Scorpion tyres at the Geneva Motor Show

P Zero takes centre stage on the supercars at Geneva, such as the Lamborghini Aventador LP 750-4 Superveloce

Pirelli’s Seal Inside technology is also on display, another asset of the italian firm’s newest tyre: Cinturato All Season

Once more, Pirelli comes to the Geneva Motor Show as the undisputed leader when it comes to new homologations at the top end of the market. In 2014, Pirelli gained 266 new homologations, of which 213 came in the premium and prestige sectors: an increase of 6% compared to last year. Of these, 118 were marked tyres – with a special marking on the sidewall indicating that they have been tailor-made for a vehicle manufacturer. Thanks to these latest arrivals, Pirelli’s homologations now add up to a record 1846 in total all over the world.

Proof of this increase can be found all over the stands that populate the 85th Geneva Motor Show this year, where the most powerful supercars such as the Lamborghini Aventador LP 750-4 Superveloce as well as the latest-generation SUVs all wear Pirelli tyres.

However, Pirelli is not just about pure performance. Many of the cars at the Geneva Motor Show rely on the Italian firm’s Seal Inside technology, which has been developed by Pirelli’s engineers to allow motorists to continue their journeys even in the event of a puncture.

THE MOST PRESTIGIOUS SUVs USE P ZERO OR SCORPION TYRES

The highlights of this year’s Geneva Motor Show include some of the world’s most important SUVs, from the Audi Q7 – making its European debut – to the restyled Audi Q3, not to mention the new and technically advanced Volvo XC90, as well as the BMW X5M and X6M. In order to put all their power and traction down onto the ground effectively, all these diverse models have chosen Pirelli Scorpion (either in Scorpion Verde or All Season guises) or P Zero tyres.

Pirelli has come up with made-to-measure tyres, specifically homologated for each one of these key SUVs to guarantee excellent grip and wet braking, combined with the inherent stability needed to get the most out of cars that weigh this much.

P ZERO FOR THE LATEST-GENERATION SUPERCARS

Following last December’s presentation of the Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 Pirelli Edition, yet another chapter of the now-legendary collaboration between Lamborghini and Pirelli will be shown in Geneva. The new Lamborghini Aventador LP 750-4 Superveloce is supplied exclusively on P Zero tyres. This latest supercar to emerge from Sant’Agata Bolognese, making its world debut in Geneva, relies on P Zero Corsa rubber to place its extreme power onto the road.

PIRELLI’S SEAL INSIDE TECHNOLOGY ALSO ON DISPLAY IN GENEVA

As part of a range of solutions that define Pirelli’s philosophy of ‘Extended Mobility’, Pirelli is also displaying its Seal Inside technology. As well as being seen on original equipment Pirelli tyres for many new Volkswagens (from the Touran, making its debut in Geneva, to the Passat shown in Paris last year) this technology enhances the premium status of Pirelli’s latest product: Cinturato All Season, the tyre for all seasons, launched onto the European market in January.

Seal Inside is new technology that allows motorists to continue their journeys, without a loss of tyre pressure, even in the event of a puncture up to 4mm. If this happens, a sealing agent on the inside of the tyre solidifies around the foreign object that has caused the puncture in order to prevent air escaping. Once the object is extracted, the sealing agent expands to plug the gap. This technology showcases another important safety innovation from Pirelli.
