Milan (Italy), 9 June 2026 – Pirelli rounds out its gravel tyre range with the launch of the new CINTURATO™ Gravel RH and CINTURATO™ Gravel RM, manufactured at the company’s Milan-Bollate facility using FSC^TM-certified natural rubber**.

The new tyres have been developed to meet the demands of modern gravel riding, a discipline that continues to evolve towards faster racing, more demanding terrain and higher performance expectations. The "R" denotes their race-oriented focus, while “H” (Hard) and “M” (Mixed) indicate the terrain conditions each model is optimised for, in line with the nomenclature already established across Pirelli’s off-road range.

The CINTURATO Gravel RH and RM complete the evolution of Pirelli's gravel range, bringing together performance, control and reliability through expertise gained in motorsport and competitive XC mountain biking. Both models belong to the High-Performance Line (HP-Line), Pirelli’s premium gravel range, entirely designed and manufactured in Italy and representing Pirelli's most advanced gravel tyre technology in terms of materials, manufacturing processes and performance.

NEW RH AND RM: SPEED AND VERSATILITY

The CINTURATO Gravel RH has been engineered for hard-packed and fast terrain, where efficiency and low rolling resistance are paramount. The new tread pattern combines a fully slick centre section - maximising contact patch and rolling efficiency on both tarmac and hardpack gravel - with pronounced shoulder knobs designed to bite into the terrain and deliver precise, confident cornering at speed. Derived from the brand’s XC racing tyres, the 120 TPI ProWALL Gravel casing provides excellent ride feel, maximum control and enhanced puncture protection. This is the ideal choice for riders focused on racing and outright speed, long-distance performance and maximum efficiency. In Pirelli’s internal testing, the new tyre recorded a 17%* reduction in rolling resistance compared with the equivalent model in the Performance Line, placing it among the fastest-rolling tyres in Pirelli’s entire gravel range.

The CINTURATO Gravel RM is the versatile option for riders tackling a mix of fast tracks and more technical, rougher terrain without sacrificing speed. Its proven tread pattern (previously known as RC) delivers an excellent balance between grip and rolling efficiency, ensuring cornering stability and dependable traction under acceleration and braking across loose and mixed surfaces. Combined with the 120 TPI ProWALL Gravel casing and a broad size offering (up to 700 x 55 mm, ETRTO 55-622), the RM is a genuine one-tyre solution for gravel racing, capable of adapting to a wide variety of courses while maintaining consistent control and a smooth, balanced ride feel. Internal Pirelli testing showed a 20%* reduction in rolling resistance compared with the equivalent tyre in the Performance Line.

Both tyres feature the latest-generation SmartEVO GR compound, developed specifically by Pirelli for high-performance gravel riding. SmartEVO GR is designed to combine low rolling resistance with reliable grip in both wet and dry conditions, helping balance speed, efficiency and control across a wide range of surfaces.

A COMPLETE GRAVEL RANGE

With the introduction of the new CINTURATO Gravel RH and RM, Pirelli now offers a complete range covering the full spectrum of modern gravel riding, from pure racing to adventure and exploration: from high-speed hardpack routes and technical gravel roads to rough, demanding terrain and muddy conditions.

The range is structured around two main product families:

• HP-Line (High-Performance Line), delivering the very best of Pirelli technology applied to gravel riding. Developed and manufactured at the company’s Milan-Bollate facility, it draws on materials and manufacturing know-how developed in motorsport and XC racing. It is designed for riders seeking uncompromising speed, precision and control.

• P-Line (Performance Line), built around proven and reliable technologies already established within Pirelli’s gravel range, offering an optimal balance of performance, durability and versatility. Featuring 60 TPI TechWALL Gravel casings and the SpeedGRIP compound, it is the ideal choice for all-round gravel riding across a broad spectrum of conditions and applications.

The new CINTURATO Gravel RH and RM are available now online and through selected bicycle retailers. The High-Performance range is offered in four sidewall options, from classic Black and Classic Tan to the Retro finish and the new Team Edition featuring Pirelli’s iconic Racing Yellow labels. Sizes range from 700 x 40 mm (ETRTO 40-622) up to 700 x 55 mm (ETRTO 55-622), offering one of the widest size ranges currently available in the gravel segment.

An evolution of the capsule collection inspired by the Pirelli Sport Club, combining heritage, innovation, and performance.

The P ZERO Race TLR SL-R is designed for all situations where speed is the absolute priority: from time trials to road races, through to the simple pleasure of pushing to the limit on weekend rides. The new tyre offers a unique balance of advanced aerodynamics, comfort and rolling efficiency, structural lightness, outright speed and reliable grip, even in wet conditions.

Developed and refined thanks to technical feedback from Pirelli’s WorldTour partner teams – including Alpecin-Premier Tech, Fenix-Premier Tech and Lidl-Trek – as well as leading bicycle brands collaborating with the company, the P ZERO Race TLR SL-R has already been raced under the now well-known #prototype Pirelli label.

At the core of the new tyre’s development is PAAS (Pirelli Advanced Aerodynamic System), a patented (*) technology making its debut on this product. PAAS reshapes the tyre to improve its interaction with the rim, smooth airflow and maximise the sailing effect of the wheel–tyre system.
The sailing effect, in fact, also depends on the tyre, which is the first element of the wheel system to come into contact with airflow. When airflow is not perfectly aligned with the wheel, this effect generates aerodynamic forces that help reduce drag as the bike moves forward. By optimising the geometry of the tyre once mounted and inflated, and the positioning of its widest point, PAAS enables delayed flow separation and full exploitation of this effect, improving the overall aerodynamic efficiency of the wheel system.

A further distinctive feature of PAAS technology is its ability to enhance aerodynamic performance without compromising any other tyre characteristics: it allows rolling efficiency, comfort and handling to remain at the highest levels, ensuring a well balanced, no-compromise package.

Pirelli’s aerodynamic studies have also led to the definition of a specific micro-textured surface on the new tyre’s slick tread, designed to further optimise airflow and enhance aerodynamics, grip and road feel even at high speeds.

Thanks to its distinctive shape, the P ZERO Race TLR SL-R helps reduce wheel drag, with average savings of up to 5 watts (**) in crosswind conditions, with peaks of up to 15 watts under specific conditions (**).

EFFORTLESS PERFORMANCE, CONFIDENT HANDLING

Outstanding rolling resistance figures further reinforce the concept of speed, achieved thanks to the new LiteCORE casing, which delivers a further 10% reduction (**) in rolling resistance compared with Pirelli’s best-performing tyre in the range.

Reduced rolling resistance does not come at the expense of handling: LiteCORE is the lightest and most efficient tubeless-ready structure ever developed by Pirelli for road tyres, ensuring it remains highly responsive under acceleration along with precise control in all riding conditions. The result is a tyre capable of combining outright speed with road feel: fast on high-speed sections, yet at the same time stable, precise and confident in handling. The new tyre provides confidence during accelerations and direction changes, all the way through high-speed cornering.

The P ZERO Race TLR SL-R features the SmartEVO² compound, already used on the RS model and a multiple race winner, including two prestigious Classics such as Milan-Sanremo 2025 and Paris-Roubaix 2025 with Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Premier Tech). This top-tier compound contributes to high levels of grip and control, both in dry and wet conditions, effectively broadening the tyre’s usable range across a variety of road surfaces.

The new tyre complies with the latest ETRTO standards and has been specifically optimised for modern wide internal rim widths, ranging from 22 to 25 mm. Compatible with hookless rims within the indicated maximum pressure limits, the tyre is already available at leading cycling retailers in 28-622 and 30-622 sizes, in both black sidewall with silver label and yellow “Team Edition” versions. After summer, the range will be further expanded with the introduction of a 32 mm version.

Manufactured in Italy at Pirelli’s Milan-Bollate facility using FSC™-certified natural rubber (***), the P ZERO Race TLR SL-R represents the most advanced expression of Pirelli Cycling’s research in the road racing segment.

The new H and M versions made in Milan-Bollate offer even better performance levels

Milan (Italy), 11 November 2025 - Pirelli has updated its CINTURATO™ tyre range for gravel bikes to meet the diverse demands of riders in terms of performance, riding style and versatility.

Pirelli’s new catalogue now features two separate lines: High Performance (HP-Line) and Performance (P-Line). The first line introduces an updated and improved version of the H and M models, made at Pirelli’s Milan-Bollate plant. Developed with advanced technologies, these tyres are designed for top-level performance. The second line offers a wide selection of gravel tyres, featuring proven technical specifications, designed to provide an optimal balance of performance and versatility.

HIGH PERFORMANCE LINE

The High Performance Line is designed for riders who demand maximum speed, control and reliability with no compromises. These tyres use high-quality materials and advanced technologies from Pirelli’s Italian production, offering an overall higher level of performance. They can be recognised by the Italian flag printed on the packaging and the FSC^TM logo on the tyre.

The HP-Line includes the new CINTURATO Gravel H and M, the first gravel tyres ever produced at Pirelli’s Milan-Bollate plant. Made with certified FSC^TM* natural rubber, they retain the existing tread design but incorporate major technical updates, making them among the best-performing tyres in their category.

The main update involves the SmartEVO GR compound, developed by the Pirelli team that works on the Motorsport compounds. It is the latest advancement in polymer technology - an evolution of the SmartEVO compound from the P ZERO Race RS tyres – optimised specifically for gravel use. It combines low rolling resistance and exceptional grip on dry and wet surfaces, offering efficiency and control across all terrains.

The HP-Line’s new H and M models feature a 120 TPI casing with a new, more advanced and protective ProWALL Gravel structure, derived from Pirelli’s latest-generation MTB tyres. This Tubeless Ready design, with reinforced sidewalls and optimised for modern wide rims, offers greater riding stability and optimal puncture protection, making it ideal for long gravel rides across a variety of terrains.

Combined with the SmartEVO GR compound, it enhances the overall efficiency of the two tyres, further reducing rolling resistance and providing greater protection both under the tread and along the sidewalls.

The new CINTURATO Gravel H has been developed for hard, compact surfaces, with a low-profile tread and closely spaced grooves that ensure grip and precise handling, even on asphalt. It excels on both dry and wet surfaces and is also compatible with hookless rims, meeting the most recent standards. Compared to the current model on the market, it offers 20% better puncture resistance and reduces rolling resistance by 10% (**).

The new CINTURATO Gravel M has been designed for mixed terrain, ranging from compact to loose. Its medium-height tread blocks provide traction and control across different surfaces, while the compact central band ensures class-leading smoothness. Also compatible with the latest-generation hookless rims, it offers excellent puncture protection and consistent grip on both dry and wet surfaces. Compared to the current model on the market, it provides 7% better puncture resistance and reduces rolling resistance by 15% (**).

PERFORMANCE LINE

The Performance Line combines proven technologies already featured in Pirelli’s current gravel products. Each model has been redeveloped to provide reliable performance, with particular attention to durability, a balance of technical features and a wide range of available sizes. The tested SpeedGRIP compound and the established 60 TPI TechWALL casing are the common denominator across all models.

The P-Line includes the following versions: CINTURATO Gravel RH, CINTURATO Gravel RM, CINTURATO Gravel S, CINTURATO Gravel H and M.

The new RH and RM models are designed for expert riders. They feature a squarer profile with more aggressive side blocks, suitable for demanding surfaces, whether in racing or other contexts. The RH version is ideal for fast terrain on mixed tracks with paved sections and compact surfaces: the smooth central band ensures efficiency on harder surfaces, while the taller side blocks provide mechanical grip off-road, especially in corners. The RM version retains the design of the previous RC model and is intended for varied terrain, from rocky to loose surfaces, with off-road blocks inspired by Pirelli’s experience in MTB XC racing.

The CINTURATO Gravel H and M of the P-Line maintain the look of the HP versions but feature the 60 TPI casing. The S version, designed for loose and unstable terrains, including muddy conditions, remains unchanged compared to the current model.

The CINTURATO Gravel models from the High Performance and Performance lines are already available online and at leading cycling retailers in the most popular sizes (40-622 and 45-622) and in various colour options. The entire range of sizes is expected to be available by the end of 2025 (for further details, please refer to the attached technical specification sheet, editor’s note).

The SCORPION XC RC, a World Cup races winning tyre, is now 7% more rolling efficient and features a new profile

The SCORPION XC M has been completely redesigned, delivering 9% lower rolling resistance and 12% less weight compared to its predecessor**

Milan (Italy), 19 June 2025 – Pirelli presents the SCORPION XC RC and M, the first 100% Made in Italy mountain bike tyres with FSC^™ certified natural rubber*. These products are made at Pirelli’s Milan-Bollate plant, which only uses natural rubber that is Forest Stewardship Council^™ certified.

Made for Cross Country races, from the Short-Tracks to the Olympic races all the way to the Marathons, these new tyres certainly have a racing spirit; they have been designed specifically for the toughest competitions but can also be used for a wide range of other cross-country applications, up to a light Trail riding.

NEW RACE COMPOUND

The SCORPION XC RC and M use a new compound formula called RACE Compound. It has been developed by the Pirelli technicians of the Motorsport Compound division. Made in Italy, it represents Pirelli’s pinnacle of off-road performance in the XC discipline. It is currently the best performing compound of Pirelli’s MTB XC range and is designed to combine top chemical grip also on wet surfaces, high tear resistance and greater rolling efficiency. The ability to meet opposite needs with a single compound allows the tyre to deliver consistent performance throughout every moment of the race and across all types of terrain, as well as throughout the tyre’s lifespan – even when it’s worn out.

The new RC preserves and enhances the previous tread design, already successful and widely appreciated at all levels of use, and stands at the top of Pirelli’s Cross-Country range as the best all-rounder, offering the perfect balance between speed and grip. In Pirelli’s internal testing, it reduced rolling resistance by 7% compared to the previous model by the same name. It has been designed to guarantee excellent performance levels both in and out competition. It features the ideal tread for rocky terrains and dirt tracks, as well as compact to mid-loose, dry and wet surfaces. The new design with a more squared profile on the shoulder knobs and a 29x2.4 true size volume (optimised for wide 30c rims) provides greater control and stability in corners thanks to the greater footprint area that results from the new profile. The less round profile compared to the previous model improves the grip of the side tread blocks when leaning into corners and also provides a more immediate and responsive feeling in cornering as well as when hitting the brakes or spinning out of the pedals with a greater rear traction. It is the ideal tyre to take on technical and fast terrains: when every second matters, the SCORPION XC RC truly delivers.

The M model has been completely redesigned. It is perfect for today’s dynamic Marathon courses and is also suitable for light trail riding: it provides the perfect balance between low rolling resistance and good grip on the most slippery terrains and less compact surfaces. Pirelli’s internal testing showed that the new tyre is 9% more rolling efficient than the previous model and 12% lighter. Less weight but greater volume: the SCORPION XC M too is produced in the true size 29x2.4 volume on 30c rims. It offers great performance levels on all loose terrains, ranging from dry loose to light mud, thanks to more open tread knobs and the advanced RACE Compound. It truly delivers on highly technical tracks on which grip and handling are key. Mounted on the front wheel, it adapts to an even wider range of surfaces. The tread design is more spaced out and distributed, but its central blocks are more compact and denser, thus optimising acceleration and rolling speed without sacrificing control. The SCORPION XC M is the ideal choice for technical tracks, where speed and control over the bicycle must coexist.

LITE CASING AND NEW PROWALL

The SCORPION XC RC and M are available with two high-performing casings: the ProWALL and the LITE. Whilst the LITE preserves the well-known Pirelli characteristics of lightness and responsiveness, the new ProWALL has been redesigned compared to the previous version. It features a new fabric distribution, whilst retaining its 120 TPI Nylon, as well as reinforced sides, thus obtaining even higher levels of protection and stability, especially with low inflation pressure levels.

The new SCORPION XC RC and M tyres are already available at the best cycling shops and online, in the 29x2.4 size with two new Silver and Team Edition graphics.

The official début in races is set for the weekend of 22 June, in the XCC and XCO round of the UCI World Cup 2025 in Val di Sole.

Taking inspiration from the previous collection, the new proposal introduces two graphic lines inspired by the Pirelli advertising archive of the 1960s, part of the historical heritage of over 4 km of documents preserved by the Pirelli Foundation: the Ruota design, characterized by a motif that recalls the wheel in motion, a symbol of dynamism and innovation, and the Tape design, inspired by vintage advertising posters with horizontal colored bands that recall energy, speed and sporting spirit.

INSPIRED BY ONE OF PIRELLI’S MOST FAMOUS AND BELOVED MOTORCYCLE TYRES

The special tread of the new CINTURATO EVO TLR maintained the grooves of one of the best Pirelli motorcycle tyres dedicated to road enduro, the SCORPION Trail III.  The similar application of the two Pirelli products, both dedicated to road and adventure riding in their respective fields, has enabled a selective technology transfer from the famous motorcycle tyre to the cycling one.  In fact, like its counterpart for motorbikes, the new CINTURATO EVO TLR is primarily intended for use on asphalt, but it also features a tread groove design developed to handle dirt roads, particularly gravel.

Pirelli has therefore reengineered the tread pattern of the SCORPION Trail III specifically for bicycle use, with a targeted distribution of grooves and solid sections along the profile. Compared to the traditional geometries of more 'racing-style' road tyres, the tread of the CINTURATO EVO TLR features a slick central band designed to provide a solid, rigid footprint for enhanced mileage and cut resistance, while its more sculpted shoulders help the compound deliver greater grip on wet or slippery surfaces. The pattern, rich in grooves and edges, increases traction on surfaces that are not necessarily paved, such as typical gravel terrains

The optimisation of the contact patch and the new construction also contribute to a marked improvement in abrasion resistance, resulting in a +40%**** increase in mileage compared to the original CINTURATO Velo, with the same tread thickness.

The new CINTURATO EVO TLR is already available online and at the best cycling shops, in sizes 28-622, 30-622, 32-622, 35-622, 40-622 in black and, for sizes 28, 30 and 32 also in the Classic and Retro versions. It will also be available later in the season in wider sizes: 45-622, 50-622 and 55-622.

Together with the Alpencin-Deceuninck men’s team, Pirelli is going to be – until 2029 – the official partner of the Women’s WorldTeam Fenix-Deceuninck, led by the Roodhooft brothers

The multidisciplinary expertise and experience of athletes such as Puck Pieterse and the newly appointed Performance Mentor Annemiek van Vleuten are crucial to the development of Pirelli’s cycling tyres.

Milan, Italy, 21^st March 2025 – From January 2025 to 2029 Pirelli is also going to be the official partner of the Women’s WorldTeam Fenix-Deceuninck.

The team, managed by Philip and Christoph Roodhooft, made its debut on Pirelli tyres at the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and the Strade Bianche, and is about to compete at the Milano-Sanremo Donne race this weekend.

One of the team’s top athletes is Puck Pieterse, a multi-time champion and a key figure in modern cycling. The reigning MTB XCO World Champion and the Best Young Rider of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift of 2024, Pieterse is known for her ability to seamlessly transition between different cycling disciplines.

PUCK PIETERSE’S EXPERIENCE AT THE SERVICE OF PIRELLI

Here is what the Dutch athlete had to say about her experience with Pirelli’s P Zero and Scorpion XC tyres: “To me a road tyre must have low rolling resistance and adapt well to the terrain. My experience with the Pirelli tyres has been excellent from the start, I always felt confident in corners and fast on descents. The mountain bike tyres I’ve tested were also impressive, offering low rolling resistance and great grip”.

Pieterse’s ability to easily switch effortlessly between gravel, cyclocross, road and mountain biking makes her a precious asset for Pirelli.

“To me it’s important to move between disciplines. It keeps me mentally fresh and prevents me from focusing on just one thing – Pieterse said - Of course, training varies accordingly”.

ANNEMIEK VAN VLEUTEN JOINS THE TEAM AS PERFORMANCE MENTOR

Starting from this year, the team has also welcomed a new Performance Mentor: former Dutch professional cyclist Annemiek van Vleuten, who needs no introduction as she won the Tour, the Giro and the Road World Championships all in the same year (2022).

Van Vleuten competed using Pirelli tyres from 2018 to 2020, thus making a major contribution to the development of the then brand-new P ZERO Velo range. Many of her greatest victories were achieved with Pirelli tyres, including the 2018 Road World Championships - Women’s Time Trial, the 2019 Road World Championships, as well as two Strade Bianche (2019-2020) and two Giro d’Italia Donne (2018-2019).

Annemiek has often trained with male cyclists and in 2019 and 2020 she participated in the pre-season training camps with the men’s team. Her feedback was instrumental in refining Pirelli’s first tubeless tyres, the P ZERO Race TLR.

“Our goal is to develop tyres that meet the needs of every kind of cyclist, regardless of their speed, weight, cycling style or sex. In this respect, our partnership with the Fenix-Deceuninck Women’s team is particularly important”, said Felice Cusmai, Pirelli Cycling’s commercial director. “This team is made up of world-class, interdisciplinary athletes, whose feedback will be invaluable for the evolution of our cycling tyres. FROM PROFESSIONAL RACES TO BICYCLE SHOPS

The World Tour team Lidl-Trek is bringing the P Zero Race TLR RS to the major professional races and grand tours all over the world and the FSC®-certified tyre is now available for sale from global retailers. The certification of its forest origin components will be highlighted by a logo engraved on the side of the tyre.

P Zero Race TLR RS is a tubeless-ready tyre and is the latest evolution of Pirelli’s road bicycle tyres. Specifically developed for competitions, its focus is perfect grip in any weather condition, excellent road handling when braking, accelerating and turning, and very low rolling resistance.

The thickness of the tread and the structure’s fabric layers have been modified to reduce the weight (-8%*) and contribute, together with the compound, to significantly reducing rolling resistance (-16%*).

A NEW STAGE IN CHOOSING AND CERTIFYING MATERIALS

For many years now, Pireli has been devoted to responsibly managing the natural rubber supply chain, by training and sharing best practices in the material’s countries of origin, in line with the principles and values contained in the Sustainable Natural Rubber Policy, launched by the company in 2017. This document is the result of discussions with the key stakeholders of the natural rubber value chain, including international NGOs, Pirelli’s main natural rubber suppliers, intermediaries and growers of the supply chain, automotive clients and multilateral international organisations. Moreover, Pirelli is one of the founding members of the Global Platform for Sustainable Natural Rubber – GPSNR, a multi-stakeholder platform established in 2018 to support the sustainable development of the natural rubber business globally, to benefit the entire value chain.

The first tyre in the world that contains FSC®-certified natural rubber dates back to 2021, the Pirelli P Zero for the BMW X5 Plug-in Hybrid. Then in 2023, the company presented the range of tyres containing FSC®-certified natural rubber for the Formula 1 single-seat racing cars. Today the P Zero Race TLR RS inaugurates the first range of FSC®-certified bicycle tyres.

The entire collection showcases the new logo of the Sport Club Pirelli, established in 1922 to promote employee well-being through physical activity. Cycling, a discipline dear to the club, highlights Pirelli’s longstanding connection to the sport. Notably, Pirelli's first tire, the “Tipo Milano” of 1894, was designed for bicycles. The history of the Pirelli Sport Club is narrated on a label sewn into the jerseys of this collection.

The collection consists of two cycling jerseys, a pair of shorts available in black and white, a base layer, a sleeveless vest, and a windproof jacket, along with matching accessories, including socks, a cap, and a water bottle. WHAT TYRE IS MOST SUITABLE? 
Choosing a tyre for the winter season often means prioritising protection rather than factors such as lightness and smoothness. The first aspect to consider is in fact the tyre tread, which must have more grooves or a more aggressive design, with a greater grip and road holding on wet surfaces, or in any case on more slippery terrains owing to debris, leaves and/or dirt. Width is also a key factor when it comes to road holding: the wider the surface touching the ground, the greater the stability. For those who go off the road on a gravel bike or a mountain bike, a more aggressive and therefore knobbier tyre is necessary for greater traction on the sections with uneven terrain. 
Last but not least is the choice of a tyre with greater and thicker puncture protection. Salt, rocks, small broken glass, metal debris and thorns can cause punctures to a tyre that is not adequately reinforced. Water too, in the form of heavy rain or humidity and winter dew, can act as a lubricant and help cause punctures due to cuts and the penetration of any sharp debris into the tyre tread: the Pirelli catalogue offers, depending on the type of model and discipline, high-performance protections that greatly reduce the chances of incurring this type of inconveniences. 

BIKE TYRE MAINTENANCE DURING THE WINTER MONTHS 
The other aspect that must be taken into account is maintenance. Whether it is a road bike, a gravel bike or a mountain bike, winter will require cyclists to take greater care of their tyres, before, during and after each bike ride. 
Owing to lower temperatures, pressure diminishes faster compared to summer, so it must be monitored constantly. Of course, before inflating the tyres, it is important to check the tables with the inflating pressure levels recommended by Pirelli, as well as to consider the body weight of the cyclist and the general load of the bike, should there be loaded bike packs. One must also consider that when it is very cold the air pressure in the atmosphere diminishes too, so it is even more important to check the internal pressure of the tyre to counterbalance it. Of course, if the goal is to achieve greater grip, apart from choosing the best suited tyre tread, a light reduction of the tyre pressure (0.3 bar) – while always respecting the minimum pressure values indicated for each tyre – will result in greater adherence also thanks to a wider footprint on the terrain. Lower pressure also helps reduce the risk of punctures due to cuts and penetrations, as it enables the tyre to adapt more to the external body, before giving in and being punctured. This must however be done without reducing the tyre pressure too much and without going over the minimum pressure value required for each tyre, otherwise the other type of puncture, due to pinch flats, may become the new problem. 

SOME ADVICE: SUCH AS HOW TO DEFLATE THE TYRE AND STORE IT 
Once the bike ride is over, quickly checking the state of the tyre, with specific attention to cuts, small cracks or external objects that have remained stuck in the tyre tread, is absolutely necessary. Removing dirt and salt from the tyre’s surface helps the tyre last longer also from a chemical point of view. 
In the winter period, bad weather may force cyclists to store their bikes for a long time, therefore, to best preserve their tyres here are some suggestions: depressurise the tyres by half the normal pressure; keep the bicycle in a cool, dry place and, of course, protected from the bad weather; avoid exposure to direct sunlight, as UV rays too can weaken the tyre; keep the tyres off the floor and, especially if tubeless-ready so with sealant inside, spin them occasionally; also, prevent chemicals or solvents from coming into contact with the tyre, and in the case of replacement tyres, take care of them carefully, preferably unfolded and not in the original packaging, and always away from damp surfaces (such as basement walls).

PIRELLI’S TYRES FOR THE WINTER SEASON 
The wide range of Pirelli tyres offers various solutions for those wanting to take on the winter season safely without giving up high-performance rides.

When it comes to road bikes, the high-performing tyre for all seasons is the P ZERO Race 4S, available both as clincher tyre and TLR. Thanks to the SmartEVO Compound made by combining the experience of the top Motorsport competitions and the partnership with Pirelli’s World Tour cycling teams, it allows for a balance between two opposite features: grip and smoothness. The CINTURATO Velo is an all-season product for road and light gravel cycling, an ideal tyre for challenging terrains that, thanks to the SmartNET Silica compound and the Armour Tech structure, can provide protection, safety and rideability in many different road and weather conditions. CINTURATO Gravel S is an eclectic tyre, designed by Pirelli to ride a gravel bike on soft and muddy terrains. Designed by prioritising grip and protection, rather than pure smoothness, this gravel tyre optimises the riding experience both in unfavourable weather conditions and on technical paths bordering mountain biking. Mud and cold are also the main obstacles for those who practice mountain biking in the winter season. Pirelli’s SCORPION tyre range, separate from the family (XC, Trail, Enduro, Race Enduro or DH, E-MTB), includes the S tyre tread. SmarTUBE X: three times thicker than its previous version, giving it the maximum robustness and puncture resistance, for an urban, gravel or e-bike use

Milan (Italy), 13 September 2023 – Pirelli adds two new models to its range of premium inner tubes dedicated to road, gravel and e-bike tyres. The Pirelli SmarTUBE EVO and SmarTUBE X have just hit the market, respectively dedicated to the Pirelli P ZERO clinchers and the CINTURATO and ANGEL tyre families.

SMARTUBE EVO AND P ZERO: A COMBINATION OF SMOOTHNESS AND COMFORT

The SmarTUBE inner tubes family is made of TPU that is a thermoplastic polyurethane characterised by high elasticity and mechanical resistance, and extreme lightness. The new SmarTUBE EVO features a new TPU formula and offers a performance made of flexibility, smoothness, and comfort that can compete with latex inner tubes, while also guaranteeing up to 50% less weight compared to the latter. The new SmarTUBE EVO also allows an extra 5% less rolling resistance compared to the already fast Pirelli SmarTUBE on the market (*).

This evolution of the famous SmarTUBE models has responded to the feedback of the World Tour teams that work with Pirelli, to boost the performance centred on the P ZERO tyres’ lightness and speed, and extends these benefits to all those who love the convenience of the “clincher + inner tube” system.

Bright yellow as per “tradition”, available in a single version, which covers sizes ranging from 25-622 to 28-622, the new Pirelli SmarTUBE EVO comes with three different Presta valves, completely black: from 42 mm, 60 mm up to 80 mm for high-profile wheels. 

SMARTUBE X: ROBUSTNESS AND HIGH PUNTURE RESISTANCE

Pirelli SmarTUBE X, on the other hand, is the new TPU inner tube dedicated by Pirelli to the tyres of the CINTURATO and ANGEL families: three times thicker than the current CINTURATO SmarTUBE (which it is replacing), the SmarTUBE X offers robustness and puncture resistance. It is particularly suitable in city settings or for fast commuting.

SmarTUBE X comes in two separate lines: CINTURATO SmarTUBE X for tyres from 28-622 to 40-622 and from 40-622 to 50-622, with Presta or Schrader valves, and ANGEL SmarTUBE X for tyres from 28-622 to 42-622 and from 42-622 to 62-622, with Presta or Schrader valve options.

The new SmarTUBE EVO and SmarTUBE X, in line with Pirelli’s TPU inner tube family, are extremely compact: -50% space taken up in the jersey’s pockets or in the backpack compared to the traditional butyl inner tubes, while preserving - like the latter type - the necessary airtightness.

Milan (Italy), 13^th June 2023 – Pirelli continues the range enhancement of its road bike tyre line by unveiling the CINTURATO Road, the tube-type version of its famous CINTURATO Velo tyre. CINTURATO Road is designed to offer durability, protection, comfort and the most practical assembly experience in various situations of use: bike rides over the weekend, when training hard or for granfondo cycling, as well as for urban and everyday use, with the wider sizes.

Manufactured in the renovated Milan-Bollate plant, the CINTURATO Road features Pirelli’s tested and patented SmartNET Silica compound. This mix, which was already used on the CINTURATO Velo and P ZERO TLR 4S, includes seventeen elements, resulting in excellent grip and efficient rolling resistance, in any weather condition.

Its strong 60TPI casing offers great protection against punctures. It has been made with Pirelli’s TechWALL+ Road technology, with an added bead-to-bead layer, in a version dedicated to clincher tyres. Thanks to its multiple reinforcement layers, including a bead-to-bead layer and an added nylon protection layer, under the tread, TechWALL+ Road protects the tyre from pinch flats and foreign objects, increasing its durability over time on challenging road surfaces that would normally wear it out.  

The tread design is also new compared to its famous TLR variant, with more side grooves and a special geometry of patterns to improve its cornering, also on rougher urban stretches or to deal with variable or slightly uneven roads, especially on cold surfaces.

The CINTURATO Road is the tyre for those cyclists focusing on fun and comfort, and seeking durability, protection and maximum practicality when it comes to use and assembly – like the one offered by the tube-type setup. Tested by Pirelli’s World Tour teams during their winter training, it is also perfect for athletes looking for a strong and lasting product to train with. This tyre is made for that large segment of the public, who still prefer the practical nature of a tube-type tyre, and complements Pirelli’s CINTURATO SmarTUBE and RoadTUBE options.

SmartNET Silica compound: perfect on cold or wet tarmac, offering all-round performance

Milan (Italy), May 3, 2023 – Pirelli presents the P ZERO Race 4S TLR road bicycle tyre, the tubeless version of the Pirelli all season tyre, produced in the renovated Milano-Bollate facility. The new all-round tyre follows the success of the P ZERO Race 4S clincher version. The new tyre has remained aesthetically unchanged from the tube type version and incorporates, within it, new technologies and prior patents that capitalize on Pirelli’s experience in the high-end cycling sector

TREAD WITH ALL-SEASON COMPOUND 

The P ZERO Race 4S TLR, in fact, features a tread made with the award-winning SmartNET Silica compound, the same used in the Cinturato Velo tyre. A Pirelli patented mix of materials, SmartNET is a silica-based molecule whose configuration differs from traditional silica molecules: its elongated stick form has a natural self-aligning tendency, providing numerous advantages in terms of performance. Among these, the most prized for use in the all-season tyre is certainly its natural chemical affinity for water, and more generally, with low temperatures, which characterise a product with outstanding qualities on wet and/or typical cold-weather surfaces.

SPEEDCORE: COMPOUND WITH ARAMID

Combined with the external SmartNET Silica, the structure of the P ZERO Race 4S TLR is equipped internally with the innovative SPEEDCORE technology, which uses a layer of compound containing Aramid particulate. SPEEDCORE technology favours the hold of air, has low resistance to rolling and offers increased protection against punctures. This new technology was developed thanks to Pirelli’s experience in the field of racing compounds; it was introduced for the first time on the market with the P ZERO Race TLR tyre, also a product of the Milano-Bollate facility.

In the case of an all-season tyre like this one, the use of SPEEDCORE technology makes the tyre casing to roll smoothly and the combination with the SmartNET Silica compound - which favours grip even on wet surfaces typical of autumn and winter – result in a product to use all year long, with all-round performance. 

THE TYRE WITH THE “RACING” FEEL

The new P ZERO Race 4S TLR tyre is the perfect choice for those who want a highperforming tyre, for competitions or training, ideal all year round: high-performing and fast in summer, high grip and resistant in winter, with that “racing” feeling typical of the Pirelli “Race” family.

Milan, Italy, 20^th March 2023 – Pirelli is launching its new P ZERO Race TLR, the tubeless version of its clincher tyre for road bikes. This product has been redesigned with new technologies and is manufactured in the modernised and innovative Pirelli plant in Milan-Bollate.

The new tubeless ready tyre by Pirelli is the fastest of the entire road bike range: this feature is sought not only by amateurs but also by the World Tour teams with which Pirelli collaborates: Trek-Segafredo and AG2R Citroën; more recently also the Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team.

The P ZERO Race TLR is the result of a complex project that involved many departments of Pirelli’s R&D, as well as the teams that tested it on the ground: it features an innovative technology called SPEEDCORE.

SPEEDCORE: REINFORCED CASING

The structure of the P ZERO Race TLR features a tyre tread made with the SmartEVO formulation, a cutting-edge compound of polymers created to offer an excellent grip and low rolling resistance. The tyre is different in the inside compared to its predecessor: here the use of the new SPEEDCORE technology offers low rolling resistance and great protection from punctures, thus reinforcing the casing – without making it stiff – through the use of aramid fibres. Aramid in fact has chemical-physical features that allow for high resistance to traction, cuts and heat, thus favouring the mechanical properties of the tyre itself.

FAST TYRE WITH HIGH RESISTANCE AND LOW RIGIDITY

This new technology has been developed thanks to Pirelli’s experience in the field of compounds for racing tyres and has allowed for the reduction of rolling resistance, thus improving the smoothness of this tyre by 24% compared to the P ZERO Race TLR’s predecessor (Pirelli in-house testing carried out with tyres in the size 28-622). The aramid fibres bind evenly with the other chemical elements in the rubber, arranging themselves homogeneously in the structure, thus favouring the high mechanical properties required of low rolling resistance, high puncture resistance and low rigidity. So thanks to SPEEDCORE the structure of the new P ZERO Race TLR is much more flexible and thinner than a traditional butyl rubber layer, with improved mechanical resistance characteristics compared to the previous version of the product and able to offer a better level of puncture protection than a classic bead-to-bead fabric casing.

Compared to the previous version on the market, the weight and excellent grip and reliability characteristics in dry and wet conditions remain unchanged, confirming the product as a reliable and high-performance all-rounder, a benchmark in its category.

P ZERO Race TLR is already available in sizes 26-622, 28-622, 30-622 (all also in the ‘Classic’ version) as well as size 32-622 with black sidewalls. The sizes 35-622 and 40-622 will enter the market later this year.

Successor of the P ZERO Velo TT, the choice of many champions of the World Tour teams

Milan (Italy), 21 February 2023 – Pirelli presents P ZERO Race TT, the top-performing clincher tyre for professional riders and the sportiest amateurs. It is produced in the renovated Pirelli plant of Bollate, just outside Milan, and completes the racing tyre range by taking over from the P ZERO Velo TT, which had marked Pirelli’s return to the cycling world in 2017 with several medal-winning achievements.  

SMARTEVO COMPOUND AND LITE CASING

P ZERO Race TT is the smoothest and lightest clincher tyre of the entire P ZERO Race range, designed to meet the requirements of the World Tour teams backed by Pirelli, combined with the ultra-light Pirelli SmarTUBE inner tubes. Indeed, teams such as the US Trek-Segafredo or the French AG2R Citroën have already chosen P ZERO Race TT for some 2022 stages of the Vuelta or the Tour de France.

The tread of the new P ZERO Race TT is based on the SmartEVO compound characterizing the P ZERO family, developed to offer a very low rolling resistance, great control at top speeds and an excellent grip. Besides, unlike its predecessor, P ZERO Race TT’s tread is not “slick”. Its design is that of P ZERO Race, thereby enhancing driveability and cornering control. In comparison to this product though, the new tyre is 5% lighter and features 15% lower rolling resistance*. With a 120 TPI nylon LITE casing, without additional protections, the Pirelli R&D department has further optimised the tyre, again with a view to offering the lowest possible rolling resistance.

With the unmistakable red logo on the sides, P ZERO Race TT is already available for purchase, in the sizes of 26-622 and 28-622.

Joint research has already led to the market launch of  tyres with more sustainable materials such as lignin and nano-silicates (SmartNet Silica)

Milan, 14 February 2023 – More than two decades after the birth of CORIMAV (Consortium for Research on Advanced Materials), the University of Milano-Bicocca and Pirelli have extended the collaboration for another 6 years. To date, 55 doctoral scholarships have been funded and awarded by the consortium, a collaboration born with the aim of developing cutting-edge technologies in the field of materials, supporting research and experimentation activities for patenting purposes, as well as promote training and professional updating initiatives for young researchers.

TOWARDS INCREASINGLY ECO-FRIENDLY MATERIALS AND PRODUCTION PROCESSES

This joint activity that will continue through the funding 18 new PhD scholarships for research activities aimed at projects focused on sustainability, through studies relating to new materials obtained from renewable sources and new materials obtained from agro-industrial waste products, innovative solutions to lower the environmental impact of the tyre production process and improve the environmental degradability of the tyre from a circular economy perspective.

INTRODUCTION OF LIGNIN AND NANO-SILICATES (SMARTNET SILICA) INTO TYRES

For example, CORIMAV's research led to the patent that resulted in Pirelli using lignin in the production of bicycle tires and soon also in some specifications for cars. Lignin is a natural material deriving from waste biomass and with intrinsic antioxidant properties which, with appropriate chemical-physical modifications, improves the mechanical properties of the tire and allows the replacement of synthetic materials of fossil origin. A second example of the research carried out by CORIMAV is the patenting of nano-silicates (SmartNet Silica), a particular silica which, when used in a compound, delivers high performance grip and smoothness on dry and wet surfaces. In addition, this improves the mechanical resistance of the tread, which enhances protection against punctures and the useful life of the tyre, as well as optimizing rolling resistance.

EUROPEAN BEST PRACTICE

CORIMAV was included in 2018 in the Final Report of the European Commission Study on Fostering Industrial Talents in Research at European Level which focuses on the promotion of inter-sectoral mobility (Ism, Inter-sectoral mobility) and reports examples of good practices for each country of the Union. A recognition that testifies to the attention of the institutions and the European Union to a path that manages to transform the fruits of research into products of commercial interest with ever greater attention to the development and dissemination of more environmentally friendly solutions. A virtuous process of continuous exchange of knowledge between industry and universities, which leads to the consolidation of learning and development methods, with an enhancement of the growth paths of young researchers which can also quickly set them on career paths in companies, including Pirelli.

OVER 20 YEARS OF RESEARCH AND 24 PATENTS FILED

In 2001, Pirelli and the University signed the agreement to create CORIMAV starting with research mainly in three sectors: nanocomposite materials, energy transmission (superconductivity and distributed generation) and molecular modeling. More recently, research has focused on the tyre sector, an area in which Pirelli's activity has also concentrated, with particular attention to eco-sustainable materials.

In over 20 years of activity, CORIMAV has filed 24 patent applications, 12 of which in the period 2017-2022. The Consortium was initially chaired by Prof. Marcello Fontanesi, followed by Prof. Cristina Messa and now Prof. Giovanna Iannantuoni, while the role of director has always been covered by Enrico Albizzati (former CEO of Material Innovation of Pirelli Labs and currently Scientific Advisor of Pirelli).

Giovanna Iannantuoni, rector of the University of Milano-Bicocca, said: “We are pleased to continue this collaborative activity. The role of research is decisive for achieving the ecological transition. Bicocca is at the forefront of research into new materials and energy saving, with a view to sustainability understood in its broadest sense. Milan (Italy), January 23^rd, 2023 – Pirelli will supply its MTB tyres to the athletes of the TREK Factory Racing Team. The newly signed 3-year agreement complements the collaboration established in 2020 with Trek’s World Tour road cycling team TREK-Segafredo.

The team will race with Pirelli's Scorpion XC line of tyres, dedicated to cross country racing, and with the brand-new Scorpion Race EN and Race DH tyres. The athletes of the TREK Factory Racing teams will compete in the most demanding and challenging events of their respective disciplines, such as the newly established UCI MTB World Series.

CONTINUOUS DEVELOPMENT

The partnership with the team will also boost the continuous development of new Pirelli’s MTB tyres aiming for ever greater performance, thanks to an intense and mutual exchange of feedback, validation, in-race and out-of-race tests. These have always been Pirelli's pillars when it comes to racing. 

100% ITALIAN TYRES

In particular, the new Pirelli factory in Bollate (Milan) will play a key role in Pirelli’s partnership with TREK Factory Racing. Here, a new range of racing-oriented Scorpion tyres will be developed and produced. This new range will incorporate technical feedback from the race fields of TREK Factory Racing’s athletes and all other MTB teams directly supported by Pirelli.

A TEAM OF CHAMPIONS

The team, which includes XC, DH and Enduro divisions, boasts a roster of some of the strongest athletes on the circuits, such as 2021 XC World Champion Evie Richards as well as 2021 MTB Olympic Champion and 2022 Swiss National Champion (Short Track) Jolanda Neff. The male counterpart includes Anton Cooper, Vlad Dascalu, Riley Amos, Loris Vergier and Reese Wilson: with their talent, past victories and great preparation, they are ready to reach the top of the podium once again in 2023.

As was the case with the livery of the TREK-Segafredo World Tour team – whose partnership has, among other things, led to several commercial operations between the two companies – the TREK Factory Racing 2023 team will sport the Pirelli logo on the chest and sleeve of its jersey.

Milan (Italy), October 3^rd, 2022 - Three years after the launch of the Scorpion family of tyres dedicated to the MTB world, Pirelli completes the range with two gravity products designed for the most demanding Enduro (EN) and Downhill (DH) races.

Scorpion Race DH and EN are born from the collaboration between Pirelli and a star of the Downhill specialty: the Frenchman Fabien Barel, three-time world champion and seven-time national DH champion. His experience, riding sensibility and technical expertise, combined with Pirelli's know-how, have led to the definition of a complete gravity racing range to meet the needs of any team or high-level athlete.

The new range, available early 2023, is the culmination of design, prototyping, testing, feedback, and field validation process that lasted almost two years. The result is a capillary range of products capable of enhancing the performance of modern DH bikes and meeting the most sophisticated needs of Downhill and Enduro athletes and teams, as well as of the most advanced amateurs, who are competing in DH or EN races.

Already tested by Pirelli testers and competed by Pirelli-sponsored athletes in the EWS (Enduro World Series) and UCI WORLD CUP DH circuits since 2021, the new Scorpion Race DH and EN tyres feature four new tread patterns, two new different casing types and a new compound specifically engineered for racing use.

AT THE HEART IS THE SMARTEVO DH COMPOUND

SmartEVO DH was developed thanks to the experience of Pirelli's Motorsport compound department, considering the specific applications of gravity racing. Unlike SmartGRIP, which was created for all-round use with more balanced properties, this new compound is engineered to offer high performance in competition. Designed to give a feeling of full bike control even in extreme conditions, it provides high chemical grip and adequate mechanical support at high speeds.  Both the static and dynamic parameters have been adjusted to increase safety and the feeling of control when braking and leaning, considering predictability and limit management as key development parameters: the perception and overcoming of the grip limit and the ability to control drifting are as important as absolute grip, and increasingly fundamental to the riding style of modern downhill riders.

SmartEVO DH is the result of the combination of two layers of compounds: a single super-soft high-performance compound (42 Shore A*) for the entire outer tread, which is tasked with providing chemical grip in a wide range of temperatures and absorbing vibrations at high frequencies, and a support compound under the tread, which is tasked with providing mechanical support to the blocks and absorbing the most significant shocks. The two compounds work together seamlessly, making a decisive contribution to giving the rider a feeling of great handling, responsiveness, and control, which is the main goal for Pirelli engineers. All this without forgetting the low rolling resistance: a key factor when competing against the clock, especially in the World Cup where you win or lose by tenths of a second.

FOUR DIFFERENT TREADS

As is typical of all Pirelli Scorpion MTB tyres, the new Race tyres consider the type of terrain.

M, T, S and MUD are the four specific tread patterns, developed to cope with any type of condition that can be found in racing, be it Downhill or Enduro.

The M (Mixed Terrain) tread is the most versatile in the range. Its design is perfect for mixed terrain, from bikeparks to harder-packed trails to the more treacherous undergrowth-type sections. Geared towards all-round performance, it features evenly distributed blocks with sizes and heights designed to generate a great riding feel in a wide range of conditions.

The T (Traction) tread offers higher mechanical grip in all situations where the tread block needs to penetrate the ground and has a high, reinforced surface face for both braking and cornering. The blocks are more widely spaced and aggressive, and feature a central band designed to be cut. In fact, when ground conditions are intermediate or mud needs to be evacuated more quickly, it is possible to cut the central block and thus make the tyre more directional and optimise its behaviour for softer terrain. A unique feature for this type of tyre.

These are technical characteristics that stem from the intensive testing activities of Pirelli factory teams, including Canyon CLLCTV Pirelli DH and the Italian Rogue Racing.

The S (Soft Terrain) tread pattern, on the other hand, is designed for soft and yielding terrain - sandy and clayey bottoms, loose soil, and undergrowth - but still able to cope with more compact sections such as roots and rocks. It is characterised by higher, widely spaced blocks.

The no-compromise MUD tread, specific to the Scorpion Race DH, features high and widely spaced blocks, which are also designed to be cut as needed and according to the type of mud and track. Developed for specific downhill use, Scorpion Race DH MUD is only available in size 2.4, the most suitable for generating grip and control in extreme muddy conditions.

A CASING FOR EVERY DISCIPLINE

When designing the structures of the new tyres, Pirelli considered many other variables highlighted by Barel's tests, in addition to the terrain: from the increasingly high-performance bikes to the riding style of the riders, to the latest developments in terms of wheels and rim sizes, to the peculiar differences that characterise the EN and DH disciplines. This gave rise to DualWall+ and DualWall.

DualWall+ is the specific casing for DH and Enduro Racing.  It is a full double-ply of 60tpi rigid casing with rubber anti pinch-flat insert and a layer of outer fabric to stabilise the sidewall of the tyre. Ideal for those athletes with an aggressive riding style, it is designed to offer superior protection against cuts and punctures, maximum stability at high speeds, and absorb vibrations and large impacts.

Specifically designed for Enduro races and/or lighter riders in general, the DualWall casing is a race-ready casing devoted more to softness and rideability. Consisting of a 120 tpi double-ply, which is also reinforced with a rubber insert like the DH one, it saves around 150g in weight compared to the DualWall+ and provides greater softness and smoothness. It is the choice of Enduro riders looking for maximum terrain feel without sacrificing the reliability typical of a double-ply construction. Also field-tested with Canyon CLLCTV Dainese athletes and the Theory Racing team, who took them to competitions and overcame the difficult EWS terrain and conditions with excellent performance.

Like all the other tyres in the range (RC, H, M), the Cinturato Gravel S is a tubeless ready tyre, and like the other products in the range it is made with the SpeedGRIP compound: developed by Pirelli, it perfectly combines the typical characteristics of an offroad compound characterized by high mechanical resistance qualities with low rolling resistance, to which is added a high grip on wet and dry. 

The sculpted tread pattern of Cinturato Gravel S was developed by Pirelli engineers starting from the design of the Scorpion S dedicated to MTBs. The tread blocks have been redesigned and modified to safely tackle gravel trails, even quite technical and rough ones, where grip and safety are the top priority, without neglecting easy handling and grip on the road. 

Like the RC version, dedicated to gravel racing and launched by Pirelli in July this year, the new S variant has also been reinforced compared to the other Cinturato Gravel tyres in the range: its casing, this time in 60 TPI nylon, is protected by a "belt," called TechWALL Gravel, which goes from bead to bead.

Easy to ride, durable and sturdy, ideal on wet, damp, muddy ground and perfect for the upcoming fall season, Cinturato Gravel S is already available for purchase, in sizes 40-622 and 45-622 in both traditional black and Classic versions with para sidewalls. Sizes 50-622 and 50-584 in Classic version will then close the range, hitting the market in the coming months.

The new tyres capitalize on Pirelli's decades of experience and technological leadership in the world of motorized two-wheel vehicles and make their debut at Eurobike, the international bicycle trade show that starts the day after tomorrow in Frankfurt.

People living in urban environments are increasingly moving towards forms of transport that allow them to get around quickly, with an eye to environmental impact and a healthier lifestyle. In this respect, bike - whether traditional or electric - has now established itself as the privileged form of transport.

Pirelli Angel Urban is dedicated to the new e-mobility and brings to cycling Pirelli's great experience in the world of tyres for motorized two-wheelers, particularly motorbikes and scooters. An important asset, especially considering that the latest generation of e-bikes are more and more powerful, much faster than a traditional bike and with features, including dynamic and cycling characteristics, that resemble, more than in the past, those of motorbikes.

The name of the new range of tyres immediately evokes this strong link: Angel, in fact, is also one of Pirelli's most recognized tyre lines for motorbikes and scooters. This reference is also evident in the similarity of the tread patterns and tyre profile of the different Angel solutions proposed for modern bikes.

THREE VERSIONS FOR THREE DIFFERENT USES
Pirelli's Angel Urban offers three different tyre models, for three different types of users.

Angel GT Urban is dedicated to the urban cyclist who is looking for handling, grip, and speed. It is for those who, with their e-bike or, more likely, with a "speed-pedelec", ride mainly in the city, but do not abstain from the occasional trip out of town, always enjoying a dynamic and sporty ride. The tread with sparse, well-spaced grooves derives from Pirelli's patented design of the famous Angel GT motorcycling tyre, winner of numerous comparative tests and still the choice of original equipment of the most famous sports bike brands, such as Ducati.
It offers dynamism and responsiveness even in wet conditions and great resistance to perforations.

Angel DT Urban is oriented towards the pure metropolitan cyclist, who looks for reliability and responsiveness from his/her bike tyre, in any weather, on any surface and under any city circumstances. With a sipped tread with all season characteristics, inspired this time by the Angel Scooter, this tyre is capable of tackling any surface or city barrier, from various road imperfections to tram tracks, and offers a very comfortable, agile and fluid ride; just like its motorized cousins.

Angel XT Urban, finally, was born to explore the city limits, to push off-road on easy gravel paths, along riverbanks or for short bike rides, on- but also off-road. A true multi-purpose tyre, in the best Pirelli tradition, Angel XT has a tread in the on/off category: well sculpted, but still suitable for long rides on asphalt, with a low-profile central tread and sidewalls with higher and more aggressive blocks, for better grip when cornering on irregular surfaces. Similar to the Pirelli MT60 RS motorbike tyre, this design offers on-road handling, comfort, and grip, as well as great traction in light dirt or gravel conditions.

NEW STRUCTURE FOR HIGH PERFORATION PROTECTION

At the heart of the new Angel Urban Tyres is the tread structure. It consists of two different layers: a surface compound (PROcompound Urban) based on silica, in contact with the asphalt, and a thick reinforcing layer underneath, with a protective and anti-perforation function. The formulation of the first favors great driving safety and grip, with the typical precision of Pirelli high performance tyres. The reinforcement layer, called HyperBELT, with an average thickness of 5 mm, offers excellent resistance to perforations. The protection prevents detritus and external bodies from reaching the inner tube and, in addition to constituting a physical barrier thanks to its considerable thickness, has a formulation designed to encapsulate sharp objects. In this way, perforation of the tyre is avoided without compromising its dynamic characteristics and maintaining the drivability and comfort typical of Pirelli's Angel line even on motorized 2-wheel vehicles.

The entire Angel Urban range complies with ECE-R75 certification, meaning that it meets the specific European standards required for e-bikes that reach speeds of 50 km/h (31 mph). All tyres are also equipped with reflective sidebands, which meet the homologation requirements of the European ECE-R88 standard.

Milan (Italy) 4 July 2022 – Pirelli launches Cinturato Gravel RC tyres, the racing version of its already famous Cinturato Gravel tyres. This tubeless ready tyre completes the gravel selection, conceived and designed for the modern races of a discipline that is now even recognized by the Union Cycliste Internationale.

From the World Gravel Series to Unbound, the Cinturato Gravel RC is intended for every gravel competition: on road, gravel or irregular terrain. The new tyre was created to meet the needs of the fastest athletes of this discipline, who require fluidity and speed in compact and straight sections, and aggressiveness and maximum grip to face any curve easily and at the speeds of modern gravel racing.

The Cinturato Gravel RC, which will be shown to the public for the first time at the EuroBike fair in Frankfurt (Germany), features a special tread pattern: with tall profile and widely spaced knobs on the sidewalls and low profile and compact tread spacing in the central area. It is borrowed from a best-selling competition tyre in Pirelli's MTB product range: the Scorpion XC RC, a tyre born in XC and Marathon World Cup races and made for fast, expert riders.

As with the other Cinturato Gravel tyres in the range, the new Cinturato Gravel RC is made with the proven, high-performance SpeedGRIP compound. This proprietary compound from Pirelli allows you to easily tackle every surface, from asphalt to gravel to off-road. SpeedGRIP offers durability comparable to that of the MTB SmartGRIP, excellent chemical grip on wet surfaces and a reduction in rolling resistance very close to that of a pure road tyre.

The Cinturato Gravel RC has been reinforced compared to the other gravel tyres in the range, specifically to enable the tyre to safely face the toughest tests and sustain the watts expressed even by gravel professionals, on any type of terrain. Its casing, this time in 60TPI nylon, is protected by a 'belt', which goes from bead to bead. Named TechWALL Gravel, it adds a layer of reinforcement and protection against cuts, without compromising the tyre's rolling resistance and rideability.

Milan (Italy), 27th June 2022 - Pirelli continues the evolution of its Scorpion range, adapting the catalogue to the increasingly varied and high-performance bikes available on the MTB market today. The renewal work has focused on the line dedicated to enduro bikes with longer excursion, as well as on e-MTBs, to allow an even wider and more complete range of use.

The Scorpion Enduro and Scorpion E-MTB lines currently include three different treads: S (Soft Terrain), R (Rear Specific) and M (Mixed Terrain), to offer specific solutions in different surface contexts. The M tread, the one designed for greater versatility, has been completely revamped and further extends its use thanks to a new knobs’ layout and a new profile, which is more aggressive but extremely versatile. The higher, reinforced blocks are now designed to withstand the high mechanical loads typical of an aggressive riding style and higher performance bikes.

The revamped Scorpion Enduro M and Scorpion E-MTB M are designed to be true all- rounders, aimed at those who use MTBs for long mountain rides but don't disdain the occasional race.

The launch of the Scorpion tyres dedicated to the pure racing world of EWS and World Cup DH, which are being developed in collaboration with Fabien Barel, is instead planned for the coming months.

NEW SMARTGRIP GRAVITY COMPOUND

Further enhancing the versatility of the M design for Scorpion Enduro and E-MTB is the new SmartGRIP Gravity compound, developed drawing on Pirelli's motorsport experience in motocross and rally competitions, where it is necessary to be able to rely on tyres capable of tackling very different terrains, climates, and riding styles.

In the new mix of materials designed by Pirelli R&D, chemical grip, smoothness, and tear resistance remain high and faithful to the design principles of its sister SmartGRIP. In the new formulation, the static stiffness value has been lowered to around 50 Shore A, thus increasing the tyre's ability to conform to the terrain, reduce vibrations and increasing grip and driving comfort in more extreme situations. Debuting on the new M design, SmartGRIP Gravity is also updated on the existing S model of the Scorpion Enduro and E-MTB range.

ADDITION OF THE PROWALL CASING

Updates on Pirelli’s MTB line also touched the range of casing combinations on existing models and compounds. Today the Scorpion Enduro range is available not only in the HardWALL version, with bead-to-bead protection and rubber reinforcement insert, but also in the lighter and more rideable ProWALL, with sidewalls reinforced by a nylon fabric. In this way, an even more complete and modern range of uses and requirements is satisfied and updated to the great variety of performances that modern MTBs allow today.

 Milan (Italy), May 30, 2022 - Pirelli launches P ZERO Race 150°, a special version of its racing tyre that is dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the company, which began its tyre production with a bicycle one. The celebratory tyre debuted on Trek-Segafredo World Tour team bikes during the just-concluded Giro d'Italia.

P ZERO Race 150° is an all-round clincher suitable for both long training sessions and competition. It offers light weight, great smoothness, and grip also thanks to the special SmartEVO compound. Formulated with a ternary blend of polymers with "smart" behaviour characteristics, the compound allows excellent dry and wet grip and very low rolling resistance. The tyre’s 120 TPI nylon casing is protected by TechBELT Road technology, which improves puncture resistance without making the tyre heavier.

The P ZERO Race 150° is made in Italy: it is produced at the renovated Pirelli plant in Bollate, near Milan. It offers all the appreciated features of the original P ZERO Race tyre, a best-seller from the Milanese company, adorned with an exclusive gold livery, the “P Lunga 150°” logotype and dedicated packaging, and is available in sizes 26-622 and 28-622.

THE FIRST PIRELLI TYRE? A BICYCLE TYRE

There are more than 110 years of Pirelli's successes and sporting history, but the one with the bicycle is the company's oldest link with sport, as evidenced by the rich archive of historical materials, sketches, photographs and audio-visuals preserved and enhanced by the Pirelli Foundation, that document this long business history.

"Pirelli & C." was founded in Milan, Italy, in 1872, by engineer Giovanni Battista Pirelli, to produce technical rubber items: rubberized canvas, transmission belts, fittings and sleeves. In 1890 Pirelli decided to put this expertise to use to develop a new product: its first bicycle tyre. It is, in fact, the first tyre produced by the company, which would later enter the motorcycle field and then the car business.

In 1895 the "Milano-Cremona-Brescia-Milano" race was held, and a new Pirelli racing bicycle tyre, the "Tipo Milano," was advertised for the occasion.

At that time tyres were, even more than today, a crucial element in bicycle races, the decisive technical component. Races took place on a wide variety of mostly uneven and bumpy road surfaces. The tyres and their respective inner tubes became valuable allies and companions of the cyclists, who wrapped them around their bodies carefully and maintained them with great care.

As early as 1899, a Pirelli catalogue shows a wide selection of tyre tubes, travel and racing bicycle tyres, as well as bicycle accessories such as handlebars, pedals, and brakes.

However, Pirelli's name is inextricably linked to cycling history during the first Giro d'Italia in 1909 where Pirelli also had a commemorative postcard printed for the occasion, featuring "I Pneumatici Pirelli” (the Pirelli tyres). During that first Giro, thirty of the forty-nine cyclists reaching the finish line mounted Pirelli tyres.

From that moment on, Pirelli tyres became the choice of all-time cycling Greats such as Ottavio Bottecchia, Alfredo Binda, Learco Guerra, Gino Bartali and Fausto Coppi, to name a few.

In 1932, on Bianchi bikes, Alfredo Bovet won the XXV Milano-Sanremo and the then general manager Edoardo Bianchi sent a letter to the Società Italiana Pirelli, congratulating it on the performance of Pirelli tubulars.

In 1949 the first Pirelli Grand Prix was held, an amateur race that offered the highest prize money at the time. Created by Arturo Pozzo together with Alfredo Binda, this prestigious annual race for amateurs allowed many talented athletes to be discovered and then become professional cyclists.

In 1953 Fausto Coppi, wearing a Bianchi-Pirelli jersey, won his fifth (and last) Giro d'Italia while riding on Pirelli brand new "Specialissimi Corsa" tyres.

Over the years the range expanded and became more specialized with models responding to various uses. In 1992 the last production of Pirelli-branded bicycle tyres came out on the market. In 2017 the company re-entered the cycling field with the launch of the now famous P ZERO.

Today as then, the logo with the characteristic "elongated P" is back on the bikes of the greatest cyclists of the day. It was the emblem of men, teams, and feats that made the history of Italy's second most popular sport after soccer: Ottavio Bottecchia, the first ace of the 1920s, Alfredo Binda, Learco Guerra, the Legnano team, Gino Bartali and Fausto Coppi, the Bianchi team, the first world championships, the Giro and Tour de France, the road and track Classics. Today it is the choice of such World Tour cycling teams as Trek-Segafredo, UAE Team Emirates and AG2R Citröen, as well as the factory MTB team Wilier Triestina-Pirelli and the DH team Canyon CLLCTV Pirelli.

In 2022, Pirelli officially announced the resumption of bike tyre production in Italy thanks to the revamped Bollate plant, where the highest performance models in the range are made, including the celebratory P ZERO Race 150° tyre.

P ZERO RACE 4S raises the level of performance in cold climates as well as in the hottest summers, offering durability, smoothness and grip whilst being still oriented to maximum performance.

Milan, Italy, March 18, 2022 - The four-season version of the P ZERO clincher hits the market. Pirelli launches P ZERO Race 4S, a clincher tyre with all-round performance, dedicated to road bikes.

P ZERO Race 4S already set a significant record: it is the first 100% Made in Italy product by Pirelli, since the company returned to the cycling field in 2017. P ZERO Race 4S is made in the renovated Bollate plant, 10 km from the Milan Bicocca headquarters. Inaugurated in 1963 to produce car tyres, the plant has been converted to house the new high-tech production line dedicated to Pirelli Cycling's high-performance models and is currently undergoing both aesthetic and functional renovation.

P ZERO Race 4S takes up a prestigious inheritance, that of its predecessor P ZERO Velo 4S, appreciated and awarded for its excellent all-round characteristics, particularly enhanced in cold weather conditions, and providing the performance of a racing tyre.

Pirelli's engineers have therefore started from an already excellent product, to further improve it, working to increase durability, smoothness, and reliability.  The new P ZERO Race 4S confirms its performance in winter conditions but increases it in terms of durability, and even more so in summer, compared to its predecessor.

A FOUR-SEASON TYRE WITH RACING FEELING

Like the P ZERO Race and Race SL, the other tyres in the P ZERO Race family, the Race 4S tyre employs the new SmartEVO proprietary compound, which is characterised by a ternary blend of polymers with "intelligent" behaviour, designed to provide high levels of performance in terms of grip, conditions of use, rolling resistance and reactivity of the tyre even in colder climates.

Drawing on more than a century of Pirelli's experience in making high-performance tyres, the Milanese company's team of engineers has enhanced the compound's special qualities by orienting them towards specific four-season use, thanks to meticulous design work on the tread pattern. 

The angles, depth, number, and distance of Pirelli's typical "flash" sipes have been optimised to improve grip on slippery and uneven surfaces.

The new Race 4S, like all the other tyres in the P ZERO Race family, also features a casing adapted to the new wider rim standards. As a result, each size has a wider tread than the corresponding P ZERO Velo 4S due to its construction and the consequent dimensional adaptation: a wider and shorter footprint, to the benefit of smoothness, puncture protection and cornering control.

The new P ZERO Race 4S is the perfect choice for those who want a four-season performance tyre that offers a "racing" feeling all year round, whether racing or training. This is precisely why it is the choice of the World Tour teams with whom Pirelli is a partner. The plant will be dedicated to the production of high-tech tyres, including all the models of the P Zero Race family, in its updated version featuring the “Made in Italy” brand, already available for purchase since March. The Bollate factory will be manufacturing both tyres for amateurs and tyres for the athletes of some of the cycling teams of the highest UCI category, including Trek-Segafredo, UAE Team Emirates, AG2R Citroën, and MTB teams such as Wilier Triestina-Pirelli and Canyon CLLCTV-Pirelli, all already Pirelli partners who play an active role in developing the Pirelli tyres. Moreover, the plant’s proximity to the Pirelli Headquarters and to the R&D department will be an accelerator of the development of Pirelli’s future Cycling products.

Being the leading developer of Ultra High Performance car tyres on the market has enabled Pirelli to apply its consolidated expertise in the innovative process world to bike tyres. Milan, Italy, 25 January 2022 - Pirelli accelerates in the world of Gravity racing with a new project: the CANYON CLLCTV PIRELLI international DH team. The team will race in the most important races in the discipline, aiming for top 10 in events such as the Downhill World Cup. 

In the research, prototyping and development of the new Scorpion tyres for Gravity racing – a process that began three years ago and is now in its final stages – Pirelli engineers have brought in French Downhill star Fabien Barel. The three-time world champion and seven-time DH national champion will also be the fil rouge of this new project. 

Scorpion tyres dedicated to the Gravity racing world have already been developed at prototype level: over the past year Fabien Barel has fitted Pirelli Prototype#0 on the bikes of athletes and teams that have raced in several World Cup DH and EWS races, putting the R&D work done by Pirelli technicians to the test. 

The new team, which will be made official by the UCI over the next few days and will be led by the veteran of the DH Circus Roberto Vernassa, includes four young rising stars of the Gravity world: the Italian Loris Revelli, already DH (2019) and Enduro (2020) national champion, the American Dante Silva, a promising US downhill cyclist, French athlete Antoine Pierron, the youngest of the “jet brothers” lineage, and the promising German junior cyclist Henri Kiefer. 

A 100% RACING RANGE 
The launch of the new Scorpion tyres dedicated to Gravity racing is scheduled for this season. It will be a wide and articulated project line, with all the models and technologies needed to race and win in very high-profile discipline competitions, without compromises or conservative choices, in typical Pirelli style when it comes to Racing. 

Samuele Bressan, Global Marketing Manager of Pirelli Cycling, stated: "Downhill is the most rigorous and demanding laboratory in the MTB world: it takes tyres to the limit in every respect and high performances are required. This new project is a key moment in Pirelli's development in Downhill, not only for the product but also for our support of MTB's most spectacular and challenging discipline. 
Fabien's idea of building a team that will launch young talents into the Pro world and lend further momentum to the development of our new Gravity tyres appealed to us straight away. They are mostly privateers, self-supported riders who, today, thanks to Pirelli, Canyon and Dainese, are making an important leap into professional racing. In my opinion, many of them will soon be reaching the top ranks. 

For me, this project is also the final test for the work we've been doing for over a year on Pirelli's new range of Gravity tyres. We've tested them in the most difficult and demanding conditions, in high-profile races, in races against the clock, both in the World Cup and in the Enduro World Series. I am very pleased with the results. 2022 will therefore be an important year, for me, for the new team and for Pirelli."

The team, which has a high-profile roster starting with Slovenian Tadej Pogačar, will ride on Pirelli tyres in 2022 and 2023, choosing between the P ZERO RACE TLR or clincher tyres and the lightweight P ZERO TUB SL tubulars.

The recently formed UAE Team ADQ women's team will also ride on Pirelli tyres.

The partnership is all Made in Italy and brings together for the first time two big names in Italian sport: Colnago and Pirelli. The famous Cambiago-based manufacturer has chosen Pirelli for the team and its bikes too. In the near future the Colnago range will be equipped with Pirelli tyres.

Technical development remains as always, a central aspect of the collaboration with UAE Team Emirates, as feedback generated by the riders will help Pirelli to design high performing products for the many passionate cyclists.

New faces and familiar ones will come together for this purpose. Pirelli's "veterans" include Denmark's Mikkel Bjerg, who has already won a world time trial championship (U23, Harrogate 2019) with the Milanese company's tyres, and Italy's Matteo Trentin (silver medal in Yorkshire, in the same year).

The Italian rider has also contributed his feedback to the development of the P ZERO tyres since their first appearance in the World Tour in 2018.

Matteo Trentin's comment: "I'm really happy to be getting back on Pirelli for next year. It's quite special for me as I was one of the first riders to test and compete with Pirelli after their move into bicycle tyres. In just a few years since then they have become one of the market leaders and for me probably the best tyres in the peloton. Myself and the rest of the team are really excited for this new step.”

Milan, Italy, October 22^nd, 2021 – Pirelli and World Tour Team Trek-Segafredo will deepen their relationship even further with an expanded partnership deal heading into 2022.

The announcement comes on the eve of the Formula 1 Aramco United States Grand Prix 2021, taking place in Austin TX. on October 24^th.

At the Grand Prix event Trek-Segafredo champions Elisa Longo Borghini and Mads Pedersen took a lap of honor on their Trek bikes, around the famous Circuit of The Americas, underlining the racing matrix of the partnership with Pirelli.

Firstly inked in 2020, Trek-Segafredo’s technical collaboration with Pirelli has already produced plenty of reasons to celebrate. In just two seasons rolling on Pirelli’s flagship P ZERO^TM tire range, the team won monuments such as Milan – Sanremo, Liège – Bastogne – Liège Femmes and, still fresh in our memories, the inaugural Paris-Roubaix Femmes, where tire choice played a crucial role.

Milan (Italy), 28 June 2021 - Pirelli announces the arrival to the market of the Scorpion XC RC 2.4, which expands its range of tyres dedicated to cross country MTB.

Launched in 2020, the Scorpion XC RC is a tyre designed for competition and created to handle a variety of terrain, such as those normally encountered on modern Olympic Cross- Country tracks. The tyre is at home on both artificial and natural surfaces, on the most compact as well as the softest terrains.

Dedicated to the expert rider, who is looking for the maximum speed in the race, the Scorpion XC RC is now available both in the classic 29x2.2 version and in the new 29x2.4 version. Also, the new size is offered in LITE version, for those who look for maximum weight reduction, and in ProWALL version for those who look for more protection on the sides and greater stability when cornering. Milan (Italy), June 15th ,2021 – Pirelli completes its line of tyres dedicated to road cycling with the introduction of the new P7 Sport clincher.

The P7 Sport is a tyre dedicated to those who ride for miles and are looking for robustness, grip and durability. Created to meet the needs of those cyclists who do not make competitive performance or KOMs their reason for living, it is developed with the intention of lasting longer, offering exceptional safety and grip and also providing a higher level of mileage than other tyres in the Pirelli road line.

The P7 Sport is also a training tyre, making it perfect for racers or amateurs, for second bikes and for all conditions of use where speed is not the only top priority.

Rogue Racing is a recognized and consolidated force in the Italian downhill scene. Born in

2013 from the experience gained after years of competition in the motorbike field, in 2014 it also opened its doors to the MTB Downhill sector. With several national successes in various categories, including the Elite category in 2019, the 2021 roster includes Davide Palazzari, reigning Italian DH Elite Champion, who spearheads the Italian DH squad with a number of outstanding performances in the World Cup. He is joined by the young talent Davide Cappello, Italian U17 Champion, who has seen solid results in the Elite Top 10 national ranking. This year, Cappello is debuting in the Junior World Cup.

The Rogue Racing athletes have been testing the new Pirelli tyres for some time and are debuting them on the World Cup tracks in Leogang, Austria, this week.

TOP TEAMS WITH CUTTING-EDGE TECHNOLOGY

The Italian team has been involved in the new Pirelli project from the outset and was chosen for both its organizational quality and sporting achievements, as well as its high level of technical expertise in the preparation and development of the mechanicals. In fact, they are the only team in Italy to use top-level telemetry measuring instruments and high-tech professional equipment for suspension and brakes (such as, Dyno suspension bench, AIM Logger EVO4S telemetry with sensors on fork and monoshock, front and rear wheel speed, yaw and pitch, and front and rear brake pressure), which are fundamental to tyre interaction. The team's methodological approach, based on data acquisition, fits in well with Pirelli’s motorsport approach that the company is pursuing for its cycling products in all areas and categories: from World Tour clinchers and tubulars to the off-road tyres of the Gravel and MTB lines.

Gravity prototypes of the new Pirelli tyres will also be on the Santa Cruz bikes of the Theory

Global development team, which will take on all the trials of the Enduro World Series.

The team features a roster of promising young riders: Elite Mens riders Brady Stone (21, NZ), Daniel Self (22, NZ), and Nic Bean (22, USA), Elite Womens rider Julie Duvert (24, FR), and new Theory Junior team member Alexis Icardo (17, FR).

The Theory Global Enduro team was founded to be a talent accelerator, with the aim of researching and forming young talents into top-level riders. Launched in 2020, the team faced its first season in conjunction with the pandemic and, despite difficult circumstances, has already achieved several great results: an EWS Elite stage win in Pietra Ligure (I) with Brady Stone and a top 5 stage win in Zermatt with Julie Duvert, as well as several placings and victories in the New Zealand national circuit.

FIELD TESTING IN MAJOR RACES

The Enduro World Series stage is another important step for Pirelli, to verify and consolidate the performance of its prototypes during the long days of competition and on the various terrains offered by the world Enduro "circus". Testing the tyres using the “stopwatch” test with a variety of surfaces, climates, and riders is a hallmark of the Milan-based company and will showcase the work carried out by Pirelli's team of technicians.

The 2021 season will therefore be the final and most challenging testing benchmark for Pirelli engineers to complete the development of Gravity products and produce a winning tyre for 2022.

In the custom version for tubular tires, the SmarTUBE was the subject of a long and careful development project, which required several months of engineering to perfectly match the inner tube to the handmade structure of the P ZERO Race Tub SL. The clincher version that arrives on the market today incorporates much of the feedback from the World Tour project, with the aim of enhancing the performance of Pirelli clincher tyres and reaching a wider range of consumers and lovers of the brand.

Pirelli's new inner tube is made of TPU, thermoplastic polyurethane, a latest-generation material chosen by the brand's engineers for the excellent performance that it offers compared to traditional butyl. The SmarTUBE promises a reduction in the weight up to 70% compared to the already lightweight latex tubes. This is the most advantageous way to reduce the weight of a bike: an advantage that also translates into less mass on the wheels and therefore better responsiveness of the bike, particularly when climbing and accelerating.

Extremely compact, the new SmarTUBE beats all records in terms of space-saving. -50% less space in jersey pockets or backpacks: the inner tube can be taken anywhere, leaving room for energy bars or multitools.

Milan, Italy, April 27, 2021- A little more than three years after returning to professional cycling, Pirelli is preparing to launch an innovation that will redefine the bicycle tubular tyre.

At the Giro d'Italia 2021, and soon on the market, comes the P ZERO RACE Tub SL.

Pirelli is once again taking on a sacred monster of road cycling: the tubular. A tyre that has seen very little innovation in its history, on which the benefits of one feature have usually been at the expense of others, that are equally important for performance. Very few tyre manufacturers have recently taken an interest in improving the tubular, as this is a niche product, almost exclusively intended for professional cycling.

As with the elite sports in which it is a partner, on two and four wheels, in cycling Pirelli confirms its vocation for continuous product development and absolute performance in the world of racing, without necessarily having a significant commercial outcome. Although the future is tubeless, in all respects, Pirelli recognises that most Pro teams still use tubular tyres. Faithful to its DNA, Pirelli is not stopping the development of this tyre, but rather raising the bar even higher for a product which, in the course of its history, has rarely seen major technical innovations.

DEVELOPED FOR AND WITH PROFESSIONAL CYCLISTS

P ZERO RACE Tub SL is a project that has seen two years of planned, meticulous and constant development. Working on the first tubular, launched in 2018 together with the Mitchelton-SCOTT team (now BikeExchange), Pirelli engineers took on board requests and suggestions for changes from the pros including, first and foremost, the one on weight reduction. In fact, today's athletes find themselves racing on high-performance bicycles that do not always fall within the UCI weight limit: disc brakes, aerodynamic frames, power meters and electronic groups certainly have an impact on the final result on the scale.

Road testing of Pirelli's new tubulars began with Mitchelton-SCOTT at the 2020 Tour of UAE and continued throughout the season, achieving notable results as early as the 2020 Tour de France, with Adam Yates in his yellow jersey stages and Richie Porte of the Trek-Segafredo team on the general classification podium.

LIGHT WEIGHT BUT WITHOUT COMPROMISE

The focal point of this Pirelli innovation is the weight, which is over 10% less than the already competitive P ZERO Velo Tub. A result that translates into just under 100g eliminated from the complete bike and, in particular, from a crucial component such as the wheels. Pirelli's search for a lighter tubular was carried out without penalising the already excellent performance of the tyre: top-notch rolling, high grip even on wet roads, and great resistance to punctures.

At the heart of the P ZERO RACE Tub SL is a special inner tube made of a lightweight, completely airtight material and optimised specifically for use inside the handmade tubular. Instead of the traditional latex, which has been used in almost all Pro tubulars up to now, Pirelli has used TPU, or thermoplastic polyurethane, a cutting-edge material which is being applied to a tubular’s inner tube for the first time and which required a great deal of development before it gave the expected results. It offers the same speed performance and puncture protection typical of latex tubes, but with a significant weight reduction and complete airtightness, thus eliminating the chronic pressure loss of traditional tubulars.

The casing of P ZERO RACE Tub SL is made of Corespun with 320 TPI. The latest-generation SmartEVO Compound, which Pirelli has developed for the new P ZERO Race in clincher and tubeless-ready versions, is another feather in the cap of the Tub SL. In the road tests carried out by the teams, the new tyre proved to improve the handling of the bike and the ascent speed, the famous VAM (Average Ascent Speed), offering excellent protection against punctures and greater control at high speeds.

All of Pirelli's World Tour team partners were given the opportunity today to choose this version of tubular ahead of the big Tours. It is likely that riders aiming for the general classification will use them more often than others. Think Simon Yates and Esteban Chaves for BikeExchange or Vincenzo Nibali for Trek-Segafredo.

Comments from Kevin Tabotta, performance manager of the BikeExchange team: “This new Pirelli tyre is a great way to reduce bike weight by 100g - which is quite a large improvement, and not normally easy to find in a top end race set up (…) Really impressed actually, we did some blind testing (…) The tyres performed exactly as we hoped they would, but now lighter! (…) It’s hard to believe that you can make such a significant saving in weight for a high-performance all-round tyre for road racing, but Pirelli did it.”

Esteban Chaves of the BikeExchange team added: “I was excited to see the large drop in weight per set of tyres with the new tubulars. The main thing is the tyres feel faster and handle well, like always – but now they are lighter as well. You feel that in the climbs. I’m already using them, but of course the Grand Tours’ will be a big target.”

In the long process of research and prototyping, which began two years ago and is now in the final stage of development, Pirelli engineers have involved an absolute star of the Downhill luminary: Frenchman, Fabien Barel.

Fabien needs no introduction: the three-time world champion (as well as a bronze and a silver medal) and seven-time national DH champion, left racing in 2015 and now works on several projects, as a technician and consultant in the world of Gravity, as well as trying his hand at e-enduro races.

His considerable experience in gravity disciplines, combined with his extreme riding sensibility and great technical expertise on all aspects and components of the MTB field, make him the ideal partner for Pirelli, for the development and continuous improvement of its products.

The new Scorpion tyres dedicated to the Gravity Racing world are already a reality at prototype level and have already been severely tested by Barel himself. Today they can be found on the MTBs of some athletes and teams, who will be racing them in the EWS and WORLD CUP DH circuits. This will put the R&D work carried out by Pirelli technicians together with Fabien, to the test as early as 2021.

DH has always been recognised as the most rigorous and demanding laboratory from the point of view of product stress. It is the perfect and definitive test bench, where tyres are pushed to the limit in all their aspects, from reliability to extreme grip. Parameters such as absorption and low rolling resistance should not be overlooked: these factors are increasingly crucial in the modern racing world, where the level of performance is so high and the differences between riders so small, that even the tiniest improvements in performance can take the world's strongest pilots from an anonymous placing to victory.

This is a way of working, in constant product development, that Pirelli knows well from other sports and that is an integral part of its DNA: research and continuous evolution.

From MX to WRC and all the two- and four-wheel motorsports in which the brand is present, the move to the DH world is a natural step for Pirelli.

Pirelli announces the arrival on the market of a new family of clincher tyres: it is called P ZERO^TM and comes in the form of P ZERO Race, the product designed for pure performance, and P ZERO Road, the alternative for those looking for an all-round clincher more oriented towards durability.

The new tyres have the task of taking over from a true best seller: P ZERO Velo, the progenitor of the range, Pirelli's first clincher, launched in June 2017. A replacement that is a deliberate choice, testifying to the evolution of Pirelli's role in cycling: in just four years, in fact, the P ZERO Velo has become a benchmark, appreciated and rewarded by various independent tests, as well as by the choice of many enthusiasts around the world.

Today, Pirelli’s range of road clincher tyres has been renewed with the aim of offering even more grip, more smoothness and even more comfort. In addition, it has been brought into line with the new standards in the sector.

P ZERO RACE: THE CLINCHER FOR MAXIMUM PERFORMANCE

Arriving chronologically after the P ZERO Race TLR and Race TLR SL, for reasons of market demand - which is now moving towards the tubeless option - the new P ZERO Race tyre is a clincher model, dedicated to pure performance.

From the point of view of tread design, the tyre is identical to the Tubeless Ready version of the same name, as is the compound Pirelli used for its rubber. P ZERO Race is made with the new SmartEVO Compound. Taking advantage of its over 110 years in motorsport as well, Pirelli has developed a ternary blend of functionalized polymers with "intelligent" behavioral characteristics, which are the basis of the exceptional properties of SmartEVO.

Each of the three polymers provides specific performance, ensuring a perfect balance of opposing characteristics, such as grip and rolling. The result? Improved grip on dry and wet surfaces and very low rolling resistance, resulting in smoothness and driveability.

This high-performance compound has already been tested by the top World Tour teams of which Pirelli is a partner: AG2R Citroën, TREK-Segafredo and Team BikeExchange.

Completely new, however, is the construction of the casing, in 120 TPI Nylon, designed for use with an inner tube. The P ZERO Race has been adapted to the new ETRTO 19c rim standards (inner channel size). As a result, each size of the P ZERO Race tyres has a wider tread than the corresponding P ZERO Velo: a wider and more elongated footprint, for the benefit of rolling performance, puncture protection and control when cornering.

The carcass also features a wider protective belt. Called TechBelt Road, it is an additional layer of Aramid fabric, underneath the compound, that increases puncture protection in various conditions of use.

Available in 24, 26, 28 and 30 mm sizes, in black or with para rubber sidewalls (Classic), P ZERO Race will soon be available in a Colour Edition version too (yellow, red or white). This performance tyre dedicated to racing and long-distances will be at home on various ground surfaces, whether dry or wet, thanks to its exceptional chemical grip; from spring to late autumn.

P ZERO Road differs from the Race version in its tread design, with closer and longer grooves, and in its compound, the EVO Compound, making it a more versatile tyre.

The new carcass construction of the P ZERO family tyres makes it important to use recommended pressures and appropriate rims. Milan (I), February 9^th 2021 - Just over three years after its return to the bicycle sector, Pirelli has rightfully become one of the big players in high-profile professional cycling. Today Pirelli is the choice of prestigious professional World Tour teams as well as elite and amateur teams in various cycling disciplines.

Having reconfirmed for 2021 the agreements with the top category UCI teams, Trek-Segafredo and Team BikeExchange, Pirelli now announces a partnership with a third World Tour team: France’s AG2R Citroën.

The agreement, signed with Swiss bike brand BMC, will see the World Tour team, as well as the Under 23 team, ride Teammachine SLR01 and Timemachine Road 01 bikes equipped with Pirelli's top road tyre technology: the brand-new P ZERO in both TLR (tubeless-ready) and tubular versions.

For training, AG2R Citroën Team will also have at its disposal the Cinturato tyres, the super-strong TLR road tyre, ideal for grinding out kilometres in complete safety and maximum performance, over long distances and on a variety of road surfaces.

For Pirelli, the partnership with the team is also and above all to support the evolution of the product, for a constant exchange of feedback on the tyres and a continuous improvement in their performance, thanks to the suggestions of the athletes.

Olympic champion Greg Van Avermaet, who had the opportunity to try Pirelli’s new P ZERO Race TLR tyres during the team's training camp on the Costa Blanca, commented: "Pirelli can bring their great experience to cycling which is a big benefit so I’m happy I can ride Pirelli not only on my car but also on my bike. It is a form of mobility that in these times is winning over many new fans who prefer a vehicle that is not only private, but also more active and sustainable. Pirelli CYCLe Winter features a one-of-a-kind specific compound developed by Pirelli engineers to face up to the low temperatures and difficult roadbeds that city bikes, even the top performing electric bikes, can encounter during the winter months.

Traditionally engaged in developing innovative solutions for sustainable mobility, backed by solid experience as leader in the car winter tyres sector, Pirelli concentrates high profile technologies, sustainable compounds and specific profiles in CYCL-e WT to present a highperformance product for e-bikes and urban bikes.

Normally tied to cars, the winter tyre today is available for bikes as well. Pirelli CYCL-e WT is designed to be used on difficult city asphalts, very cold surfaces (even below 0°C) or surfaces dusted with snow. The tread pattern created by the Pirelli R&D laboratories features widespread lamellar notches that guarantee grip at the maximum levels, even on early snowflakes, although retaining outstanding control on dry roadbeds.

Designed taking into account the growing speed of modern e-bikes and as performance value added for any type of city or touring bike on outings, CYCL-e WT boasts a compound that adapts to low temperatures, offering grip reliability even in freezing conditions and, due to its lower warm-up time, guarantees utmost traction on roadbeds typical of the winter in the city.

SAFE AND SUSTAINABLE TYRE
The tread of the CYCL-e tyre is formed by two layers of compound: one “cap” compound in contact with the asphalt and a “base” that works to prevent punctures. The formulation of the first ensures excellent riding safety, even on the most modern and powerful electric bikes, and on different road surfaces (paved, pedestrian crossings, rails, etc.). The “base”, with thicknesses varying between 3 and 3.5 mm depending on the sizes, is instead designed to prevent debris and foreign bodies from puncturing the tyre.

Not only does it form a physical barrier owing to its considerable thickness, but it also has a formulation researched to incorporate sharp objects, in this way preventing perforation of the tyre.

The compound of CYCL-e tyres is also environmentally friendly as it contains crumb rubber, taken from end-of-life car tyres. The selected powders are regenerated and reused in the polymer matrix. Special attention is then also paid to maximising use of natural rubber, a raw material coming from a renewable source.

Milan, Italy, 27 July 2020 - Pirelli presents P ZERO™ Race TLR and P ZERO™ Race TLR SL, tubeless-ready road tyres that represent the spearhead of its line of tyres dedicated to professional road racing and high-performance cycling.

Returning to the world of pedal-powered two-wheels from June 2017, today Pirelli is one of the leading players in the sector of high-end racing bike tyres. Three years after the launch of its first clincher, the P ZERO Velo clincher, Pirelli completes its range with P ZERO Race TLR and P ZERO Race TLR SL, tubeless-ready road tyres that are immediately positioned at the top of its line.

Developed in collaboration with two World Tour teams, the Mitchelton-SCOTT of the reigning RR world champion Annemiek van Vleuten and the Trek-Segafredo of the reigning RR world champion Mads Pedersen and of Vincenzo Nibali, the new P ZERO Race TLR tyres can call themselves World Tour Ready tyres. It does this by taking into consideration one of its key values: sustainability, which is also the basis for the return of the company in the world of cycling.The new Scorpion E-MTB tyres are Tubeless Ready, which are aimed at e-riders who are also lovers of the Trail and Enduro disciplines. In short, the new E-MTB tyres incorporate all the concepts already introduced in the other Scorpion tire lines (XC, Trail, Enduro), where terrain consistencies, from compact to supple, become key factors for the tread profile that’s designed for each specific surface conditions.

With the new line, Pirelli is one of the few bike tyre manufacturers in the world to offer a complete range of tyres dedicated to electric mountain bikes, which cover almost all disciplines as the new Scorpion E-MTB range offers three profiles.

SmartGRIP+: MAXIMUM, SUSTAINABLE, RESISTANCE

The SmartGRIP+ Compound, the heart of the new tyres, is a reformulation of the compound developed by Pirelli for its Scorpion MTB tyres. It was produced in the Racing plants of the company, where the engineering of the well-known F1 tyre compounds also take place.

An innovative feature of this new formulation is the addition of Lignin to the basic composite of the SmartGRIP Compound. Lignin is a naturally sourced chemical component out of the craft pulping process of exhausted paper. Not only it is a low impact additive, but it also enhances performance in light of the unique speed and torque features associated with electric motors of modern E-MTB bikes. This performance enhancement comes with no compromise of the other characteristic of the SmartGRIP Compound formulation, which is the chemical grip.

The result is a version of the SmartGRIP which keeps its main characteristic of having superior dry and wet grip performances as well as Pirelli’s recognized excellence in craftsmanship. The rider benefits from enhanced tire performance, even under the higher speed and torque of E-MTB riding. This blend of properties designed by Pirelli was crafted to positively impact rolling as well as the grip performance over rough terrain, with better overall handling.

HyperWALL TECHNOLOGY: E-MTB SPECIFIC PROTECTION AND HANDLING

Bead and sidewalls of the new Scorpion E-MTB tyres have been reinforced with HyperWALL (Patent Pending Pirelli) technology, also of Motorsport derivation. The newly developed construction of the bead and sidewalls area further increases tyre performance in terms of stability and resistance to pinch-flats of the sidewalls. This is a key aspect, especially in off-road applications, in particular with the more demanding ones such as Gravity and E-MTB.

With its sophisticated rubber compound, this tread highly relies on and behaves strictly dependent on the stability and integrity of the bead and sidewall themselves. Pirelli introduced a construction that solidly anchors the bead and the rubber sidewall insert with a woven fabric flipper, making them behave as one whole solid piece instead of as separate components. HyperWALL improves the stability of the bead (+10%*), offers greater protection against pinch-flats (+50%*) and better handling (+25%**). UNRIVALED LIGHTWEIGHT AT E-MTB RELIABILITY

Among tyres with a similar level of protection available on the market now, Pirelli's new Scorpion E-MTB tyres are among the lightest: thanks to the concentration of applied technologies, the new Pirelli tyres offer reliability and protection from the typical pinching of a DH rubber, at a weight of about 20% lower. The whole is seasoned with excellent grip and lots of fun. The new tyre weights vary from 1.200g for the 27.5x2.6 to 1.330g for the 29x2.6 version.

Milan (Italy), May 26, 2020 - Pirelli launches the Scorpion XC RC Cross-Country racing tyre, which will be part of its Scorpion MTB range dedicated to mountain bikes.

Returning to cycling in 2017, a sector that well interprets its values as a leading brand in sustainability, Pirelli presented its first MTB tyres in February 2019. At the same time, the company signed a technical partnership agreement with a world-class elite team, the current TREK PIRELLI.

Developed at the specific request of TREK PIRELLI athletes, the new tyre is a 100% racing product. It’s created to meet the high performance needs of riders of the caliber of Vlad Dascalu, a European Champion, World Champion and World Cup winner XCO U23, and Samuele Porro, an Italian National Champion, silver medal at the European Championships and bronze at the World Championships in the XCM category.

Samuele Porro had asked Pirelli engineers for a new tyre more oriented towards the Olympic Cross- Country races but also with excellent performance in the XCM events. The company technicians have therefore developed a racing product of the highest profile, capable of offering lightness, super smoothness and good grip. Thus, the Scorpion XC RC was born.

A VERY FAST RUBBER, FOR RACES

A few months later, in October 2019, Samuele Porro and his teammates received the first prototypes. The new tyres with the "Prototype" label were tested during the team's training camp in Calpe (Spain). Porro also tested them in a training session on the track of the grueling Cape Epic in South Africa. The baptism of the tyres took place in the first calendar races, including the Mediterranean Epic and the Andalucia Bike Race.

From a technical point of view, the new XC RCs are Tubeless Ready tyres with a 120 TPI Nylon casing construction. Available in LITE and ProWALL versions, for increased puncture protection, they combine Pirelli's proprietary technologies already found in the Scorpion MTB range, starting with the innovative SmartGRIP Compound. Derived from Pirelli's experience in Motorsport, SmartGRIP Compound is a mono-compound with high mechanical strength which, despite the increased smoothness and lightness of the new XC RC tyres, offers excellent stability, long life and,above all, optimal grip on all terrain. Pirelli paid particular attention to the tread design, which incorporates characteristics deriving from both the Scorpion XC H (Hard) and the Scorpion XC M (Mixed), re-engineered to have more direct and precise handling. The blocks in the center of the tread clearly resemble the Scorpion XC H profile but are lower and closer to improve the smoothness on straight sections. And the half-fold and lateral blocks have the shape and sharp angle of the Scorpion XC M profile. These revisions were made to maximize grip at different lean angles. The profile with more aggressive sides and a smoother center makes the Scorpion XC RC the perfect weapon to conquer the modern Olympic Cross-Country tracks that are very technical.

This is Vlad Dascalu’s comment on the new tyres: “the Scorpion XC RC is perfect for me, because it is designed for the most modern XC courses, where the alternation of natural trails and artificial sections is increasingly common, in addition to an increased racing average speed that’s augmenting year by year. Thanks to the new design I know exactly where I can put the tyre, I can follow the most difficult lines and I can set the curves with more aggression, but also save energy, thanks to the improved smoothness and lightness (of the tyre - editor's note) ".

THE “RIDE SAFE” INITIATIVE IS A PILOT TEST INVOLVING 14 BICYCLES AND WILL RUN THROUGH JULY 10

Milan, 7 May 2020 – Pirelli and the ASST Fatebenefratelli Sacco association of hospitals announces the launch of the “RIDE Safe” initiative.  Employees of the “Vittorio Buzzi” Children’s Hospital and the Fatebenefratelli Ophthalmic Hospital of Milan will be offered the free use of 14 Pirelli CYCL-e around electric bicycles, the high-end assisted pedaling rental service devised by Pirelli for sustainable mobility. The eBike permits you to move in the city, reach your workplace and other destinations while respecting social distancing, without using public transportation and reducing car traffic, with the possibility of covering greater distances compared with a traditional bicycle.

In particular, employees of the two hospitals participating in the initiative will have the possibility, until July 10, of using an eBike for a two-week period after which the bicycle will be sanitized and passed to another colleague.

“We are very grateful to Pirelli for this initiative, which was welcomed enthusiastically by the employees of our association – said Alessandro Visconti, general manager of ASST Fatebenefratelli Sacco – Thanks to the service being offered, our healthcare professionals will have the possibility of commuting in a sustainable way, respecting all the distancing measures required in the current situation”.

Milan, Italy, January 8, 2020 - After a season as a technical partner, Pirelli becomes co-title sponsor of the mountain bike team, TREK PIRELLI. The team, headed by ex-professional cyclist Marco Trentin, is one of the most important and renowned on the international Cross-Country mountain bike scene.

The collaboration with Pirelli, which started in 2019, has led to two Italian jerseys (Samuele Porro, Cross Country Marathon; Gioele De Cosmo Under23 Cross-Country), a silver medal at the 2019 Cross Country Marathon EU Championships and a bronze at the Cross-Country Marathon 2019 World Championships (both won by Samuele Porro). Finally, the team got a successful third place in the grueling South African marathon, ABSA Cape Epic.

Today Pirelli consolidates the work done with the team and takes the partnership to the next level, becoming co-title partner and reaffirming its commitment, both to the team and to the world of cross-country mountain biking.

Milan, 24 October 2019. A tour to discover the Fondazione Pirelli and the Bicocca area dedicated to lovers of photography, Milan’s history and that of its transformation. This initiative, entitled “Scatta la Bicocca”, proposed by the Fondazione Pirelli during the fifth edition of Archivi Aperti (Open Archives), the exhibition promoted by Rete Fotografia. For the purposes of the tour, CYCL-e around™ e-bikes will be available. This is new mobility service devised by Pirelli, which proposes to enrich the cycling tourism with the latest generation assisted pedaling bicycles.

Thanks to this initiative, scheduled for Sunday October 27, participants will be able to visit Pirelli’s historic archives, conserved in the Fondazione, and get to know the history of one of the city’s most interesting urban transformations, that of the Bicocca area, through photographic works by great names published in the Rivista Pirelli. It is a story that begins in the fifteenth century with the construction of the Bicocca degli Arcimboldi, passes to the twentieth with the birth and development of the Pirelli factory (1909), then to the launch of the Progetto Bicocca for the conversion of the area (1986), and arrives in the 2000s with today’s Bicocca “factory of knowledge”. This is an area characterized by the architecture of the Studio Gregotti, which includes the Pirelli campus – with headquarters, which symbolically include the plant’s former water- cooling tower and Research and Development – and the Milano-Bicocca University. The tour will move through the Bicocca area on the saddles of CYCL-e around™ e-bikes. Along the route, participants will be able to discover the places depicted in historic photos and take new ones to share on social networks.

Following gold and silver medals in the Men’s U23 Time Trial, by Mikkel Bjerg and Ian Garrison respectively, of the Hagens Berman Axeon team, the road races produced even more excitement and success.

Dutch cyclist Annemiek Van Vleuten is the new women’s world champion, having stunned everyone – rivals, spectators and commentators – with her epic 100km solo breakaway, one of the longest winning attacks of all time in the World Championships. Australia’s Amanda Spratt earned the bronze medal. It was her second medal in the event, following silver last year, and it comes at the end of a fantastic season.

In the Men’s Elite race, Matteo Trentin took the silver medal in the toughest conditions in memory. He gave his heart and soul to carry the Italian flag to the podium and his silver medal fills his nation with pride.

All three riders belong to the Mitchelton-SCOTT team and raced on Pirelli P ZEROTM Velo tubular tyres, developed for and with the Australian team to deliver maximum reliability and performance. They helped the Mitchelton-SCOTT cyclists to safely face the very wet roads and low temperatures that characterized this edition of the World Championships.
