Milan (Italy), 9 June 2026 – Pirelli rounds out its gravel tyre range with the launch of the new CINTURATO™ Gravel RH and CINTURATO™ Gravel RM, manufactured at the company’s Milan-Bollate facility using FSC^TM-certified natural rubber**.

The new tyres have been developed to meet the demands of modern gravel riding, a discipline that continues to evolve towards faster racing, more demanding terrain and higher performance expectations. The "R" denotes their race-oriented focus, while “H” (Hard) and “M” (Mixed) indicate the terrain conditions each model is optimised for, in line with the nomenclature already established across Pirelli’s off-road range.

The CINTURATO Gravel RH and RM complete the evolution of Pirelli's gravel range, bringing together performance, control and reliability through expertise gained in motorsport and competitive XC mountain biking. Both models belong to the High-Performance Line (HP-Line), Pirelli’s premium gravel range, entirely designed and manufactured in Italy and representing Pirelli's most advanced gravel tyre technology in terms of materials, manufacturing processes and performance.

NEW RH AND RM: SPEED AND VERSATILITY

The CINTURATO Gravel RH has been engineered for hard-packed and fast terrain, where efficiency and low rolling resistance are paramount. The new tread pattern combines a fully slick centre section - maximising contact patch and rolling efficiency on both tarmac and hardpack gravel - with pronounced shoulder knobs designed to bite into the terrain and deliver precise, confident cornering at speed. Derived from the brand’s XC racing tyres, the 120 TPI ProWALL Gravel casing provides excellent ride feel, maximum control and enhanced puncture protection. This is the ideal choice for riders focused on racing and outright speed, long-distance performance and maximum efficiency. In Pirelli’s internal testing, the new tyre recorded a 17%* reduction in rolling resistance compared with the equivalent model in the Performance Line, placing it among the fastest-rolling tyres in Pirelli’s entire gravel range.

The CINTURATO Gravel RM is the versatile option for riders tackling a mix of fast tracks and more technical, rougher terrain without sacrificing speed. Its proven tread pattern (previously known as RC) delivers an excellent balance between grip and rolling efficiency, ensuring cornering stability and dependable traction under acceleration and braking across loose and mixed surfaces. Combined with the 120 TPI ProWALL Gravel casing and a broad size offering (up to 700 x 55 mm, ETRTO 55-622), the RM is a genuine one-tyre solution for gravel racing, capable of adapting to a wide variety of courses while maintaining consistent control and a smooth, balanced ride feel. Internal Pirelli testing showed a 20%* reduction in rolling resistance compared with the equivalent tyre in the Performance Line.

Both tyres feature the latest-generation SmartEVO GR compound, developed specifically by Pirelli for high-performance gravel riding. SmartEVO GR is designed to combine low rolling resistance with reliable grip in both wet and dry conditions, helping balance speed, efficiency and control across a wide range of surfaces.

A COMPLETE GRAVEL RANGE

With the introduction of the new CINTURATO Gravel RH and RM, Pirelli now offers a complete range covering the full spectrum of modern gravel riding, from pure racing to adventure and exploration: from high-speed hardpack routes and technical gravel roads to rough, demanding terrain and muddy conditions.

The range is structured around two main product families:

• HP-Line (High-Performance Line), delivering the very best of Pirelli technology applied to gravel riding. Developed and manufactured at the company’s Milan-Bollate facility, it draws on materials and manufacturing know-how developed in motorsport and XC racing. The new CINTURATO Gravel RH and RM are available now online and through selected bicycle retailers. Launched in 2025, the tyre for premium sedans and CUVs has proven to be a benchmark for safety, dry and wet performance, longevity, and balanced dynamic behavior. The new Pirelli Cinturato, which had already collected 2 wins last year, secured another 2 outright victories and 3 podiums in the first two months of 2026 in 6 comparative tests organized by specialized magazines and independent European organizations. The Cinturato achieved two first place finishes in the tests conducted by Tyre Reviews and Automobilclub von Deutschland (AvD), in addition to top positions in the comparative tests by Europe’s largest automobile club, ADAC (Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil-Club), the German magazine Auto Zeitung, and the Swedish magazine Vi Bilägare, as well as being rated “exemplary” by Auto Bild.

Tyre Reviews says Cinturato a benchmark for control

In Tyre Reviews’ The BEST Summer Tyres for 2026” comparative test, the Cinturato achieved joint first place, standing out for delivering the best dry braking performance among all tested tyres. The review described it as “the best summer tyre of 2026,” highlighting its optimal dynamic balance and precise steering response, which provide the driver with a strong sense of control. The publication also emphasized the excellent wet performance, where the Cinturato consistently ranked at the top, confirming its all-round capabilities.

For AvD: “excellent” safety on many surfaces

The Cinturato triumphed in the summer test conducted by Automobilclub von Deutschland in size 215/55 R17, with its performance rated as “excellent,” particularly in safety-related categories. The tyre recorded the best test results for dry braking and lateral aquaplaning resistance, demonstrating superior stability even in adverse weather conditions and ideal balance across the various testing disciplines.
 

International podium places: ADAC, Auto Zeitung and Vi Bilägare

The Cinturato’s technological value was further confirmed by tests conducted by ADAC in size 225/50 R17, where it secured second place with a “Highly Recommended” rating. In this test, in addition to safe driving performance on both wet and dry surfaces and highly balanced handling, the tyre’s efficiency was recognized thanks to its higher durability compared to other products ensured by its high wear-resistant compound and reduced environmental impact. Auto Zeitung also awarded the Cinturato a podium position in size 235/45 R18, describing it as “a tyre without weaknesses,” extremely safe in handling and capable of delivering convincing mileage performance. Meanwhile, the Swedish magazine Vi Bilägare placed the Pirelli product second on the podium in size 205/55 R16, praising its agile character, cornering precision and short braking distances.

“Exemplary” according to Auto Bild

Rounding off this outstanding start to the season was the result achieved in Auto Bild’s major test in size 245/45 R19. After a qualification phase in which the Cinturato ranked among the best performers in braking distance out of a field of 50 candidates, the tyre confirmed its capabilities in the final evaluations. Testers highlighted its balanced handling and precise steering, particularly on wet surfaces, with very high levels of grip and braking performance.

Milan, 13 January 2026 – 2025 was a record year for Pirelli innovation, with many awards won in tests and the recognition for Cyber™ Tyre technology, all granted by independent bodies and specialized magazines.

The new tyres from the P Zero, Cinturato, and Scorpion families, in fact, notched up 27 podiums over the year, including 15 first places out of 34 comparative tests. In particular, the products launched in 2025 for the global market, the P Zero and Cinturato, both reached the top of the podium twice. The Cinturato All Season SF3 also continues its cycle of positive results, with 11 victories last year. Furthermore, Pirelli Cyber™ Tyre technology received four recognitions during the year in different countries, confirming the key role of this technology in the mobility revolution towards a connected and increasingly safe future.

TYRES FOR THE GLOBAL MARKET

Among the products introduced in 2025, the new P Zero – the sports tyre par excellence – now in its fifth generation, achieved two victories: it was named best ultra-high performance summer tyre by Tyre Reviews and took first place in tests conducted by the British magazine Auto Express, confirming the performance and safety characteristics announced at launch. The new Cinturato, the summer tyre dedicated to premium vehicles ranging from sedans to CSUVs(?), also recorded two victories – including one from Tyre Reviews – in addition to two podium finishes, demonstrating a perfect balance between safety and efficiency.

As for winter products, the P Zero Winter 2 – Pirelli’s solution for the sportiest cars even during the cold season – achieved, in addition to a podium finish, victory in the tests conducted by the historic Swedish magazine Teknikens Värld, in the category of non-studded winter tyres for Central European roads.

These tyres are also among those which feature the most specialties – Pirelli technologies that help increase benefits for motorists – ranging from puncture-resistant technologies (Runflat and RunForward) to those designed to reduce rolling noise inside the cabin (Pirelli Noise Cancelling System).

PRODUCTS FOR THE EUROPEAN MARKET

In both the market and magazine test spotlight, the all-season segment continues to stand out. In 2025, the Pirelli Cinturato All Season SF3 dominated: the latest update of the product for medium-sized and compact cars achieved eleven victories and three podium finishes in comparative tests. “It impressed with its ability to position itself as the right middle ground and to dominate all disciplines in terms of safety,” Autobild Sportscars stated when announcing the victory, while according to Tyre Reviews, “There is not much this tyre cannot do.” The Scorpion All Season SF3 – the product that extends the technical features of the Cinturato All Season SF3 to meet the needs of SUVs, launched in the last quarter of the year – has already notched up   victories. The results obtained by the All Season SF3 range earned Pirelli the titles of All Season Champion 2025 and Top Manufacturer of All Season Tyres, awarded respectively by Germany’s automobile club Automobilclub von Deutschland (AvD) and by the prestigious German magazine AutoBild.

FOUR RECOGNITIONS FOR PIRELLI CYBER™ TYRE

Pirelli Cyber™ Tyre technology – the world’s first system, hardware and software, capable of collecting data from sensors in the tires and processing them through proprietary algorithms, communicating in real time with vehicle electronics – received four international awards over the year. In the USA, it was recognized as the most innovative technology in the tire sector at the Autotech Breakthrough Awards; in France, at the eighth edition of the Automobile Awards, it won first prize in the safety category; from the independent AutoBest jury, representing 32 European countries, it received the “SafetyBest Award”; finally, the US market analysis company Frost & Sullivan named Pirelli “Company of the Year” for the innovative scope of Cyber™ Tyre, a technology that “highlights how digital systems are able to redefine even the traditional components of the automotive sector,” according to the motivations.

In fact, in the 2025 comparative tests conducted by AvD, the two flagship products of Pirelli’s All Season SF3 range — the Cinturato All Season SF3 and the Scorpion All Season SF3 — obtained the highest recognition in their respective categories, standing out for their balanced performance, safety in all the conditions examined and comfort. In particular, the Cinturato All Season SF3 excelled in the braking tests on dry and wet surfaces, handling and aquaplaning resistance, while the Scorpion All Season SF3 established itself as the benchmark for SUVs, excelling in traction and safety on all surfaces. The comparative tests revealed that Pirelli’s All Season tyres do compromise  between different performances, but instead provide safety all year round on various road surfaces.

In the evaluation of the best all-season tyres, AutoBild magazine described the Cinturato All Season SF3 as “versatile and reliable”. The same AutoBild had recently awarded this Pirelli product first place overall in the 2025 super-comparison of 30 all season tyres purchased on the market, with the overall judgment of “Exemplary”, thanks to balanced performances in all conditions tested: excellent safety on wet roads, great resistance to aquaplaning, brilliant performance on dry surfaces, and good results on snow and in durability.

The AutoBild tests showed how the Pirelli Cinturato All Season SF3 did not have any weak points in the different testing conditions, always offering great safety and easily earning the title of best all-season manufacturer of the year. In the SUV-specific tests, the Scorpion All Season SF3 — which shares its development platform with the Cinturato — obtained the highest scores for dry and wet braking, handling and quietness.

These recognitions add to the successes obtained in previous years, confirming the technical superiority of the Pirelli Cinturato and Scorpion All Season SF3 ranges. The product development is based on the most advanced virtual modelling techniques of Pirelli’s R&D, with new-generation compounds and adaptive tread designs with 3D sipes that guarantee grip and safety even when the tyre is worn.

These innovations have made it possible to simultaneously raise the different performances required of an all-season tyres: in fact, the Cinturato All Season SF3 has achieved class A on the European label for wet braking and the TÜV SÜD Performance Mark quality certification, as well as being awarded by Dekra for cumulative braking performance (the sum of performances on dry, wet and snow). The range is available in sizes from 15 to 20 inches. Developed as an evolution of the Cinturato for SUVs, the Scorpion All Season SF3 also boasts class A on the European Label for Wet Grip, showing excellent results in cumulative braking in the Dekra tests. The range offers sizes from 17 to 21 inches. Both Cinturato and Scorpion All Season SF3 also offer dedicated versions for electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, equipped with technologies such as Elect and the Pirelli Noise Cancelling System for acoustic comfort. The two products are also marked with the 3PMSF (Three Peak Mountain Snowflake) symbol, certifying their reliability even at low temperatures and on snow, having passed strict tests in winter conditions.

A technological collaboration that sees Pirelli and Porsche also involved in further joint development projects for classic models

Milan, 15 October 2025. Pirelli offers tyres for classics and youngtimer Porsche 911, from the first 1964 model to the Porsche 911 (type 997). This breadth of offering makes Pirelli the go-to supplier for Porsche collectors, thanks in part to the Collezione range for numerous other classic Porsche models, such as the 356, 914, 928 and 944. These tyres are designed specifically for the cars they equip, preserving the original aesthetics while using modern materials and technologies, to offer maximum safety and compliance with currently applicable regulations.

PIRELLI COLLEZIONE: CLASSIC TYRES ON THE OUTSIDE, MODERN ON THE INSIDE

As a testament to the joint development between the Pirelli and Porsche Reasearch and Development departments, the tyres bear the "N" marking on the sidewall: the symbol applied on all tyres that have been specifically approved and tested by Porsche. The Collezione range aims to preserve the historic automotive heritage, combining technical innovation with aesthetic fidelity. This is maintained thanks to the contribution of the Pirelli Foundation, which preserves, among other documents, the designs and specificities of historic tyres in an archive of approximately 4 linear kilometers of materials on Pirelli's history, from 1872 to the present day.

FROM THE CINTURATO CN36 TO THE P ZERO, THE EVOLUTION OF THE 911

The history of the Porsche 911 began at the 1963 International Motor Show Germany (IAA) in Frankfurt, where it was introduced as the "Porsche 901," the successor to the Porsche 356. A few years later, the production versions were equipped with the Cinturato CN36, the first Pirelli sports car tyre to use steel belts. Ten years after its debut and following the release of numerous versions, the Porsche 911 evolved into the G model, which gave rise to the 911 Turbo. This model was equipped with the Cinturato P7, a tyre originally developed for rally races and later a successful product in the road range. It was the first ultra-low-profile tyre to be introduced to the market. Its main feature was its lower sidewall relative to the tread width with a previously unseen aspect ratio, which significantly increased grip when cornering. Subsequent generations adopted the P Zero Rosso, designed to offer the perfect balance between high performance, comfort, and low noise, ensuring safe sporty driving even at high speeds. In 2005, the sixth generation arrived, the Porsche 911 (type 997), for which the P Zero is also available. Further joint development projects are also underway to develop new tyres for classic Porsche models.

Performance takes a step forward thanks to virtual development and advanced testing methodologies

Milan, 7 October 2025 – Pirelli launches the Cinturato Winter 3, a high-performance winter tyre designed for sedans and crossovers, capable of offering safety and control in winter conditions. Starting with snow performance, tested by independent bodies Dekra[1] and TÜV[2], which also verified the excellent wet performance. The new product, in fact, ranked first on snow for braking, traction, and handling, receiving the TÜV Premium Quality Mark. On wet surfaces, it tops the charts for aquaplaning resistance and handling, with an A-B classification on the European label for wet grip across the entire range[3]. Acoustic comfort is also guaranteed, with low rolling noise emissions, as confirmed by the European label[4], while the tread pattern ensures lasting performance and higher mileage[5] compared to the previous generation.

DEVELOPMENT OF THE CINTURATO WINTER 3

The versatility of the new tyre is the result of a development process that achieved the goal of reconciling historically opposing characteristics, thanks to Virtual Development techniques, such as mileage and aquaplaning resistance, both improved compared to earlier products. Virtual development not only allowed a significant reduction in the use of physical prototypes through increasingly sophisticated simulation of  the variables, but also produced more precise results while minimizing development times.

The main update concerned the tread pattern: the central zig-zag channel improves water evacuation, the optimised sipes and Snow Keeper Teeth on the blocks trap snow for better snow-on-snow grip, without penalizing wet performance.

The compound was developed thanks to experience gained with the P Zero Winter 2, an ultra-high performance winter tyre, winner of several comparative tests. The Dual-Core Polymer used, features a dual-mode structure that increases grip in different conditions: high mobility at low temperatures provides snow adhesion without compromising grip on wet or dry surfaces. In addition, excellent wear resistance further extends the working range of the tyre.

Virtualization techniques were also applied to material development, thanks to the Virtual Compounder: a tool, developed by Pirelli and based on generative AI, to accelerate the identification of the best material combinations for new compounds, allowing more precise results and maximizing process efficiency.

TESTED ALSO IN SUMMER, INDOOR

While the use of virtual methods has been expanded, physical testing activities have also evolved with new methods and facilities to experiment at different times of the year, obtaining more accurate results faster. In addition to the testing laboratories in Bicocca, a key role in this phase was played by the Pirelli Sottozero Centre, a centre of excellence in Swedish Lapland, where the R&D department tests tyres on different surfaces, from snow to ice, all year round. Inaugurated in 2017, the facility extends over 125 hectares with 19 tracks on snow, ice, wet, and dry surfaces. The Cinturato Winter 3 was the first product to benefit from the most recent Indoor facility, recently inaugurated in the proving ground area, which allows replication of winter temperatures, conditions, and surfaces even in summer. To ensure maximum effectiveness on specific vehicles, between physical and virtual tests, the tyre was tested on over 10 of the most representative car models on the market.

THE CINTURATO WINTER 3 RANGE AND PIRELLI WINTER OFFERING

Already available on the replacement market with over 35 products, the Cinturato Winter 3 range covers sizes from 16 to 20 inches and also features technologies such as Elect, which allows an increase of up to 10% in the range of electric[6] and plug-in hybrid cars and adopts solutions specifically designed for the characteristics of these powertrains. The Pirelli Noise Cancelling System (PNCS) is also available, reducing rolling noise in the cabin thanks to a special sound-absorbing material applied inside the tyre.

The Cinturato Winter 3 is part of Pirelli’s winter range, alongside the latest novelties, such as the P Zero Winter 2 for the highest-performing cars and the Scorpion Winter 2 for high-performance SUVs. A range that responds with different products to the growing demand for specialized winter tyres in sizes from 18 inches, typical of higher level segments.

The Cinturato All Season SF3 also claimed the top spot in comparisons conducted by Tyre Reviews, “The Best All-Season Tyres for 2025/26”. This is the second consecutive victory in the independent magazine’s tests. Tyre Reviews examined 9 tyres in size 205/45 R17, testing them in all conditions through 15 different tests from dry to snow, using two seasonal references (one summer and one winter). “There is not much this tyre cannot do,” writes Tyre Reviews: the Cinturato All Season SF3 proved to be the best in dry braking and recorded the fastest lap on dry roads, also ranking first in handling. On wet roads, it excelled in both aquaplaning tests, straight-line and cornering, with excellent results also in wet braking and lap time, demonstrating very good wet handling. Traction on snow was excellent and braking effective, with a standing-out number one in snow handling. Finally, its noise levels remained low.

VICTORIES FOR THE CINTURATO ALL SEASON SF3 AND PIRELLI ALL-SEASON RANGE

The Pirelli Cinturato All Season SF3, the most recent all-season product dedicated to medium and compact cars, designed especially for mainly city driving, is available in various sizes from 15" to 20". It has won several independent comparative tests and has recently obtained an excellent ranking in tests by Germany’s ADAC (Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil-Club, the largest automobile club in Europe).  The product development involved virtual modelling techniques at the Pirelli R&D centre, a choice that allowed all variables such as compounds, tread pattern, and physical stress distribution on the tyre to be studied simultaneously. The compound includes new polymers and optimized moulding for uniformity and durability, reducing rolling resistance and noise (class A B on the European label). The directional tread pattern features wider grooves and adaptive 3D sipes: with wear, they change from linear to zigzag, improving snow grip even with a worn tread. The tyre has also achieved class A for wet braking on the European label and has received the TÜV SÜD Performance Mark quality certification.

Pirelli has recently extended the all-season range with the new Scorpion All Season SF3, specifically designed for SUVs. The new product transfers the technical qualities of the award-winning Cinturato All Season SF3 to the needs of “high-riding” vehicles and is already available in sizes from 17 to 21 inches. As with the rest of the Pirelli range, the new Scorpion All Season SF3 also features Elect technology, a package of solutions developed to enhance the performance of electric and plug-in vehicles, identified by the specific marking on the tyre sidewall.

INSPIRED BY ONE OF PIRELLI’S MOST FAMOUS AND BELOVED MOTORCYCLE TYRES

The special tread of the new CINTURATO EVO TLR maintained the grooves of one of the best Pirelli motorcycle tyres dedicated to road enduro, the SCORPION Trail III.  The similar application of the two Pirelli products, both dedicated to road and adventure riding in their respective fields, has enabled a selective technology transfer from the famous motorcycle tyre to the cycling one.  In fact, like its counterpart for motorbikes, the new CINTURATO EVO TLR is primarily intended for use on asphalt, but it also features a tread groove design developed to handle dirt roads, particularly gravel.

Pirelli has therefore reengineered the tread pattern of the SCORPION Trail III specifically for bicycle use, with a targeted distribution of grooves and solid sections along the profile. Compared to the traditional geometries of more 'racing-style' road tyres, the tread of the CINTURATO EVO TLR features a slick central band designed to provide a solid, rigid footprint for enhanced mileage and cut resistance, while its more sculpted shoulders help the compound deliver greater grip on wet or slippery surfaces. The pattern, rich in grooves and edges, increases traction on surfaces that are not necessarily paved, such as typical gravel terrains

The optimisation of the contact patch and the new construction also contribute to a marked improvement in abrasion resistance, resulting in a +40%**** increase in mileage compared to the original CINTURATO Velo, with the same tread thickness.

The new CINTURATO EVO TLR is already available online and at the best cycling shops, in sizes 28-622, 30-622, 32-622, 35-622, 40-622 in black and, for sizes 28, 30 and 32 also in the Classic and Retro versions. It will also be available later in the season in wider sizes: 45-622, 50-622 and 55-622.

The tests were carried out on a selection of premium tyres in 225/50 R17 size, taking place under real-world dry and wet conditions. The Cinturato ranked first among the seven tyres tested, delivering outstanding performance across all categories (dry and wet grip, aquaplaning, comfort, noise, and rolling resistance) to demonstrate its perfect balance between safety and efficiency.

On dry roads, the Cinturato stood out for its excellent stability, balance, and grip. Additionally, it recorded the fastest lap time and best braking performance, with a significant margin over its competitors.

On wet surfaces, the Pirelli tyre ensured perfect balance and precise handling, positioning itself among the best in the category. It also achieved the top result in the curved aquaplaning test, registering the highest grip among all the tyres tested.

THE SECRETS OF THE NEW CINTURATO

The breakthroughs in this new product are primarily due to innovative compounds made from materials researched and patented by Pirelli. These overcome the traditional trade-offs in tyre development, balancing opposing needs such as braking grip, mileage durability, and rolling resistance. This performance balance has been achieved mainly through the tread composition, which leverages the synergy between a unique star-shaped polymer and a special resin blend.

Further benefits come from a next-generation silica, called “SmartNet Silica”. Thanks to its unique shape – consisting of regular, elongated elements positioned longitudinally in the direction of travel – it successfully balances two typically opposing performances: providing greater grip and stability in corners, while helping to reduce rolling resistance on straight roads.

THE CINTURATO FAMILY: FOR EVERY SEASON, WITH EXCLUSIVE TECHNOLOGIES

A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE CINTURATO

The Cinturato, the longest-running brand in Pirelli’s range, was introduced in the 1950s for Formula 1 single-seaters and rally cars, and was the company’s first radial tyre. Its name comes from the radial carcass structure, reinforced with textile or metal bands to enhance strength and stability. Over the decades, it has evolved to offer specialised variants for different applications, always prioritising safety and efficiency. These qualities have made the Cinturato Pirelli’s best-selling tyre worldwide and the choice of premium car manufacturers from all over the world - from Europe to the United States and Asia - equipping over 60 vehicle models, with 145 homologations in the past five years alone.

WHICH TYRES TO CHOOSE?

The ideal choice for cold weather is always winter tyres, which are made with specific compounds to offer optimal grip and increased traction on both dry and wet surfaces, reducing the risk of aquaplaning.

On both winter and all season tyres, it’s important to check the markings on the sidewall. The M+S symbol denotes a tyre that has been specially designed for tricky surfaces, but even higher levels of safety are indicated by the 3PMSF logo (representing a mountain with three peaks, along with a snowflake). This logo means that the tyre has passed all the tests associated with the most challenging conditions in winter.

So the level of safety is clearly illustrated by the markings, but the choice to fit winter or all season tyres comes down to a number of different factors. Above all, it depends on how the car is used. Intense use with higher mileage (in excess of 25,000 kilometres a year) as well as more powerful and bigger cars, or frequent drives in mountainous areas, call for a full winter tyre. Predominantly urban driving and smaller vehicles (from city cars to compact SUVs) allow for the use of all season tyres.

Swapping between summer and winter tyres is the best choice for the majority of drivers, but the other option is an all season tyre, such as the Pirelli Cinturato All Season SF3. This meets the needs of more urban drivers perfectly, as many comparative tests recently won by the new Pirelli have already proven.

DRIVING ADVICE FOR WINTER

As well as having the right tyre, it’s important to have the right driving style. Whenever it’s dry in winter, the same approach can generally be taken as in summer, but it’s important to remember that there’s less grip and so it’s advisable to maintain a bigger margin of safety.

Wet or snowy conditions are a different proposition, where the same sort of driving style should be adopted as for fuel-saving. In other words, no harsh acceleration, which can cause wheelspin on snow, while braking should be kept to a minimum, with engine braking preferred instead. Maintaining a healthy stopping instance is also more important than ever, to avoid running into the car in front. When it comes to parking, diagonally is best if possible: especially when snowploughs dump snow by the side of the road.

Drivers of electric cars need to pay particular attention: battery life tends to diminish in winter, which means that it’s better to rely on tyres with low rolling resistance. This is a fundamental characteristic to guarantee a longer range, which Pirelli caters for thanks to its bespoke ‘Elect’ technology. The very first winter car tyre to score ‘A’ for rolling resistance has been recently launched by Pirelli: the P Zero Winter 2 for the BMW i7.

EUROPEAN LEGISLATION AROUND WINTER TYRES

Those travelling around Europe need to know about individual regulations that apply to each country. Both Germany and France are changing their rules about winter tyres this year, for example.

France: From 1 November to 31 March, winter tyres with M+S and 3PMSF markings are compulsory in mountainous regions and areas that are specifically signposted.

Germany: The use of winter tyres, which are identified with M+S and 3PMSF symbols in Germany, are compulsory for wintry roads and conditions.

Austria: For roads in winter conditions M+S marked tyres with a tread depth of at least four millimetres on all four wheels are compulsory from 1 November to 15 April.

Switzerland: Winter tyres are not mandatory, but anyone who causes traffic congestion by driving on summer tyres in winter conditions, or anyone who has tyres judged to be defective, can be punished. 

Croatia: In winter conditions from 15 November to 15 April, it’s compulsory to fit winter tyres with M+S markings and a tread depth of at least four millimetres on all the wheels.

Greece: From 15 October to 15 March it’s obligatory to fit M+S and 3PMSF winter tyres on all four wheels on roads that are covered in snow, specifically signposted, or in the case of specific public announcements.

Spain: M+S tyres have to be used at least on the driven wheels if it snows, and chains can be used in indicated areas, up to a maximum speed of 50kph, if there is snow on the road.

Sweden: All vehicles must use M+S and 3PMSF winter tyres with a minimum tread depth of three millimetres from 1 December to 31 March in winter conditions.

Italy: It’s compulsory to carry chains in the car or fit winter tyres with M+S markings from 15 November to 15 April. The rule applies outside of urban areas, but it can also be requested within them by local authorities.

PIRELLI’S WINTER TYRES

Pirelli has developed a comprehensive range of winter and all season tyres to respond to all requirements and driving conditions. Two new Pirelli winter and all season products make their debut for this winter in 2024: the P Zero Winter 2 and Cinturato All Season SF3, both of which have obtained winning results in comparative tests conducted by specialist publications.

Those looking for maximum performance and safety in winter conditions can rely on the P Zero Winter 2, which took the top score (A) on the European tyre label for wet grip, with excellent braking on snow.

The latest all season tyre from Pirelli is the Cinturato All Season SF3, which offers year-round control as shown by the Performance Mark: a seal of excellence issued by certifying body TÜV SÜD.

The new Pirelli all season tyre features the 3PMSF marking, which guarantees safe driving even on icy and snowy surfaces. These continuous safety and performance improvements – even in the most extreme winter conditions – stems from the unstinting work of Pirelli’s engineers, who use the most advanced virtual modelling techniques as well as artificial intelligence and driving simulators.

SmarTUBE X: three times thicker than its previous version, giving it the maximum robustness and puncture resistance, for an urban, gravel or e-bike use

Milan (Italy), 13 September 2023 – Pirelli adds two new models to its range of premium inner tubes dedicated to road, gravel and e-bike tyres. The Pirelli SmarTUBE EVO and SmarTUBE X have just hit the market, respectively dedicated to the Pirelli P ZERO clinchers and the CINTURATO and ANGEL tyre families.

SMARTUBE EVO AND P ZERO: A COMBINATION OF SMOOTHNESS AND COMFORT

The SmarTUBE inner tubes family is made of TPU that is a thermoplastic polyurethane characterised by high elasticity and mechanical resistance, and extreme lightness. The new SmarTUBE EVO features a new TPU formula and offers a performance made of flexibility, smoothness, and comfort that can compete with latex inner tubes, while also guaranteeing up to 50% less weight compared to the latter. The new SmarTUBE EVO also allows an extra 5% less rolling resistance compared to the already fast Pirelli SmarTUBE on the market (*).

This evolution of the famous SmarTUBE models has responded to the feedback of the World Tour teams that work with Pirelli, to boost the performance centred on the P ZERO tyres’ lightness and speed, and extends these benefits to all those who love the convenience of the “clincher + inner tube” system.

Bright yellow as per “tradition”, available in a single version, which covers sizes ranging from 25-622 to 28-622, the new Pirelli SmarTUBE EVO comes with three different Presta valves, completely black: from 42 mm, 60 mm up to 80 mm for high-profile wheels. 

SMARTUBE X: ROBUSTNESS AND HIGH PUNTURE RESISTANCE

Pirelli SmarTUBE X, on the other hand, is the new TPU inner tube dedicated by Pirelli to the tyres of the CINTURATO and ANGEL families: three times thicker than the current CINTURATO SmarTUBE (which it is replacing), the SmarTUBE X offers robustness and puncture resistance. It is particularly suitable in city settings or for fast commuting.

SmarTUBE X comes in two separate lines: CINTURATO SmarTUBE X for tyres from 28-622 to 40-622 and from 40-622 to 50-622, with Presta or Schrader valves, and ANGEL SmarTUBE X for tyres from 28-622 to 42-622 and from 42-622 to 62-622, with Presta or Schrader valve options.

The new SmarTUBE EVO and SmarTUBE X, in line with Pirelli’s TPU inner tube family, are extremely compact: -50% space taken up in the jersey’s pockets or in the backpack compared to the traditional butyl inner tubes, while preserving - like the latter type - the necessary airtightness.

The first sizes are already available on the market, the range is expected to be complete by the end of September 2023.

RC tread design, MTB style, with SpeedGRIP compound

Milan (Italy), 5^th July 2023 - Pirelli launches the CINTURATO Gravel RC X tyre, the version of its famous CINTURATO Gravel RC made for gravel bikes to take on challenging terrains. 

Designed for rough roads, mixed terrains, the toughest gravel trails, CINTURATO Gravel RC X is the ideal choice for riders who compete in iconic races of this discipline as well as for the most extreme bikepacking. The X stands for Extreme, and indicates a category of Pirelli bike tyres dedicated to the toughest and most demanding uses.

CINTURATO Gravel RC X is the tubeless ready tyre that offers even greater robustness on the sides, combined with excellent rolling resistance. From the Gravel Series to the Unbound races, the CINTURATO Gravel RC X tyre can comfortably handle the most extreme competitions: it is smooth and fast on hard surfaces and on straight sections, thanks to a central tread with low and dense knobs and offer great grip on curves, thanks to its sides with high and penetrating knobs.

The tread of the RC X model is the same as the one of the Gravel RC, based on Pirelli’s SCORPION XC RC tyres born in the Cross Country and Marathon races of the MTB World Cup and made for fast, expert riders.

The new TechWALL X structure features a 60TPI nylon casing with longer overlap on the sidewall: the sides are therefore reinforced and cut-resistant. In addition to this, there is the bead-to-bead protective layer in high-density square fabric, that is present on all of Pirelli’s Gravel range. Thanks to its design, the tyre maintains the RC model’s typical smoothness and grip, but it is far more resistant to cuts to the sidewalls and more stable on curves, making it ideal for the toughest terrains and most demanding uses.

Like the other CINTURATO Gravel tyres of the range, the new CINTURATO Gravel RC X too is made with the tried-and-tested and high performing Pirelli’s proprietary SpeedGRIP compound, which features great durability, excellent chemical grip on wet surfaces and reduced rolling resistance, very similar to the one of a pure road tyre.

Presented for the first time to the public at the recent Eurobike fair in Frankfurt, Germany, the CINTURATO Gravel RC X tyre has been chosen by Pirelli’s gravel racer partners, including Lawrence “Larry” Warbasse (AG2R Citroën Team) and Hannah Shell who recently raced with the new CINTURATO Gravel RC X tyre at the famous Unbound gravel race.

The ideal partner for training or leisure cycling

Milan (Italy), 13^th June 2023 – Pirelli continues the range enhancement of its road bike tyre line by unveiling the CINTURATO Road, the tube-type version of its famous CINTURATO Velo tyre. CINTURATO Road is designed to offer durability, protection, comfort and the most practical assembly experience in various situations of use: bike rides over the weekend, when training hard or for granfondo cycling, as well as for urban and everyday use, with the wider sizes.

Manufactured in the renovated Milan-Bollate plant, the CINTURATO Road features Pirelli’s tested and patented SmartNET Silica compound. This mix, which was already used on the CINTURATO Velo and P ZERO TLR 4S, includes seventeen elements, resulting in excellent grip and efficient rolling resistance, in any weather condition.

Its strong 60TPI casing offers great protection against punctures. It has been made with Pirelli’s TechWALL+ Road technology, with an added bead-to-bead layer, in a version dedicated to clincher tyres. Thanks to its multiple reinforcement layers, including a bead-to-bead layer and an added nylon protection layer, under the tread, TechWALL+ Road protects the tyre from pinch flats and foreign objects, increasing its durability over time on challenging road surfaces that would normally wear it out.  

The tread design is also new compared to its famous TLR variant, with more side grooves and a special geometry of patterns to improve its cornering, also on rougher urban stretches or to deal with variable or slightly uneven roads, especially on cold surfaces.

The CINTURATO Road is the tyre for those cyclists focusing on fun and comfort, and seeking durability, protection and maximum practicality when it comes to use and assembly – like the one offered by the tube-type setup. Tested by Pirelli’s World Tour teams during their winter training, it is also perfect for athletes looking for a strong and lasting product to train with. This tyre is made for that large segment of the public, who still prefer the practical nature of a tube-type tyre, and complements Pirelli’s CINTURATO SmarTUBE and RoadTUBE options.

 CLASSIC TYRES OUTSIDE, MODERN TYRES INSIDE

For the Sport Spider and Sport Coupé versions of the Fiat 850 and Fiat 124, Pirelli has recreated the Cinturato CA67 in 155 R13 size and the Cinturato CN36 in 165 R13 size respectively. In keeping with Pirelli Collezione tradition, the latest versions of the Cinturato reflect the origins of the original tyre that was launched between the 1950s and 1960s. The classic appearance of the tyre is maintained, while also featuring modern technology inside. Thanks to newly developed compounds, Pirelli Collezione tyres have better grip in the wet compared to the tyres of the time, ensuring reliability and greater safety. The technical characteristics that inspired the Pirelli engineers to make these tyres are also in line with those defined by the original vehicle designers and – thanks to the contribution of the Pirelli Foundation, which maintains all the original drawings and designs – originality is conserved with these classically-style tyres. The Foundation boasts an extensive heritage archive of approximately four kilometres of materials, dating all the way back to 1872.

CN36, A NEW SIZE PREVIEWED AT THE SHOW IN PADOVA

Pirelli’s Cinturato was the flagship product of the tyre revolution of the 1950s, characterised by a radial carcass with crossed textile belts, leading to the birth of the sports tyre. The CN36 in particular was designed to keep High Performance and Gran Turismo (GT) cars glued to the road. It also recorded a number of important victories in rallying, equipping the Fiat 124 Sport in 1971. Today, it not only returns to the Fiat 124 range, but from 2023 it will also be available in the new 195/70R14 size. This tyre will be previewed at a special exhibition on the Fratelli Rossi distributor stand at the upcoming “Auto e Moto d’Epoca” show in Padova, an essential fixture on the classic motoring calendar for many years.

PIRELLI AND BORRANI, AN ENDURING PARTNERSHIP

As Pirelli continues to mark its 150^th anniversary, it will also be present at the Padova fair alongside Ruote Borrani, a Milan-based company celebrating its centenary in 2022, which is famous for its wire wheels. The two companies go back a long way, with more than 80 years of history being shared between Pirelli and Ruote Borrani. In the Borrani exhibition, a special Pirelli tyre with Borrani rims used for high-speed tracks on 1930s Grand Prix cars will be on display, with both wheel and tyre being genuine artefacts from the era.

For the little ones, but not only, the Ferrari Testa Rossa J – a scale replica of the original 250 Testa Rossa – will be exhibited: the result of a collaboration with The Little Car Company, which specialises in miniature recreations. The mini car is fitted with Pirelli Cinturato CN54 tyres and can be driven from 14 years of age. On the walls will be a display of photographs from the historical archive kept in the Pirelli Foundation. Pirelli’s engineers focussed on safety in the wet when designing the Cinturato P7 as well as short braking distances, a long tyre life, and low noise from the tyres. The P Zero was developed for the models featuring more performance and bigger wheels: tyres that make use of Pirelli’s extensive experience in motorsport and provide a high degree of control in both wet and dry conditions.

CINTURATO P7: SAFETY, COMFORT, AND RESPECT FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

The latest Pirelli Cinturato P7 delivers excellent performance in the dry and beats the previous Cinturato P7 in the wet in terms of aquaplaning and especially under braking, where it takes up to four fewer metres to stop from 100kph. The innovations introduced by Pirelli’s engineers also improve acoustic comfort, thanks to less cabin noise, as well ride comfort – with the tyre better able to absorb bumps in the road. Total tyre life goes up by six per cent, meaning that the tyres don’t have to be changed as often. Underlining the efficiency of the new tyre, rolling resistance goes down a class on average (-12%), reducing fuel consumption on the car by four per cent (as measured on the WLTP cycle) as well as carbon emissions. The innovations on the new-generation P7 start off with the tread pattern, benefitting from “mechanical intelligence”, which features silica and specific resins that increase grip as well as special polymers: synthetic elastic materials that are chemically modified to improve their interaction with the actual silica. This new compound, thanks to an improved distribution of the silica particles themselves and better interaction between them, means that the tyre can alter its behaviour depending on driving conditions and temperature, giving the driver a very wide working window of performance.

P ZERO: HIGH PERFORMANCE, SAFETY, AND A SPORTING SPIRIT

The P Zero designed for the new Mercedes-Benz C-Class delivers excellent handling in both the dry and the wet, perfect balance, precise response to steering inputs, reduced wet and dry braking distances, and decent protection against aquaplaning. P Zero is synonymous with sporting performance, characterised by advanced technology derived from Pirelli’s long experience in motorsport. P Zero tyres are selected by more than 50% of the global prestige market, meaning that more than half of the most desirable cars in the world leave their factories on Pirelli tyres.

A WIDE RANGE OF TYRES

There are more than 770 Pirelli tyre models, underlining the close technical collaboration between the two companies, with the latest chapter being the new Mercedes-Benz C-Class. The car – available with both rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive – benefits from a bespoke version of the Cinturato P7, launched last year, and P Zero: true to Pirelli’s ‘Perfect Fit’ philosophy. These tyres are designed to integrate perfectly with the car’s systems thanks to a perfect balance between the rigidity of the structure and tread pattern under different loads, ensuring safety as well as performance. For winter conditions, the Pirelli Winter Sottozero 3 is available: a tyre for the top end of the premium market that provides high levels of driving performance. In certain sizes, the P Zero is available with PNCS technology, which reduces the noise on the inside of the car from the interaction between the road surface and the tyre. The Cinturato P7 tyres for the new Mercedes-Benz C class will instead also be available with the Self-Supporting Run Flat option to mitigate punctures. This system guarantees safety without compromising enjoyment, by keeping the car stable even in the event of a puncture. Thanks to this system, cars can keep driving safely for 80 kilometres at a maximum speed of 80kph.

DIFFERENT RULES FOR EVERY COUNTRY

When travelling across national borders, it’s important to contact the authorities of each state to know precise information on local regulations, but it’s still useful to have a brief overview of how different European countries regulate driving in winter, both for safe travel and to avoid fines.

Austria: from 1 November to 15 April, winter tyres with M+S markings are mandatory with a tread depth of at least 4mm or ÖNORM V 5117/5119-approved chains can be used on the driven wheels in icy or snowy conditions.

Belgium: there is no requirement for winter tyres.

Bulgaria: from 15 November to 1 March, winter tyres with M+S and 3PMSF (three peak mountain snowflake with a stylised mountain logo) markings are mandatory or summer tyres with a tread depth of at least 4mm.

Croatia: from 15 November to 15 April it is obligatory to fit M+S winter tyres with a tread depth of at least 4mm – or to carry chains in case of snow.

Estonia: from 1 December to 1 March, M+S winter tyres with a tread depth of at least 3mm are mandatory or tyres can also be fitted with chains on snow-covered roads.

Finland: from 1 November to 31 March, M+S winter tyres with a tread depth of at least 3mm are mandatory with winter conditions.

France: in 42 Alpine departments, it’s compulsory to have tyres with M+S or 3PMSF markings (or have chains on board) from 1 November to 31 March.

Germany: in winter conditions (without reference to specific months of the year) it’s mandatory to fit tyres with 3PMSF markings or carry chains. Tyres with only M+S markings produced up to 2017 can be used until September 30, 2024.

Italy: from 15 November to 15 April, tyres with M+S markings are mandatory on certain roads – or snow chains must be carried as an alternative.

Lithuania: from 10 November to 1 April, tyres with M+S markings and at least 3mm of tread depth (or chains in case of snow) are required by law.

Luxembourg: winter tyres with M+S markings or snow chains (to be carried on board) are mandatory with snow or ice.

Netherlands: the use of winter tyres is not required and the use of snow chains is prohibited.

Portugal: winter tyres are not compulsory.

United Kingdom: the use of winter tyres is not mandatory and chains or spiked tyres are allowed only when they do not damage the road surface, in snowy or icy conditions only.

Czech Republic: from 1 November to 31 March, winter tyres with M+S markings and a tread depth of at least 4mm is mandatory in case of snow.

Romania: in snow, ice or winter conditions, winter tyres with M+S markings are mandatory. If roads are covered with snow or ice, chains can also be used.

Serbia: from 1 November to 1 April, M+S winter tyres with at least 4mm of tread depth are required by law outside of built-up areas. Snow chains can be carried as an alternative.

Slovakia: from 15 November to 31 March, winter tyres with M+S markings are required by law (with 3mm of upper tread).

Slovenia: from 15 November to 15 March, or whenever there is snow on the road, M+S or 3PMSF winter tyres are mandatory. Chains are allowed as an alternative in case of snow.

Spain: M+S winter tyres can be used on at least the driven wheels with snow on the road under request by authorities. Chains can be used wherever permitted always with a maximum speed of 50kph.

Sweden: winter tyres with 3PMSF markings are mandatory from 1 December to 31 March. M+S marked tyres can be used until 30 November 2024.

Switzerland: the use of winter tyres is recommended from October to April, while chains can only be used in case of snow or ice.

SO WHAT NEXT: WINTER OR ALL SEASON?

Is the best option an all-season tyre that stays on the car all year round, or a dedicated set of winter tyres? There are many options, but the right solution depends on how much distance the car covers and how it is used during the winter, where the driver lives, and, of course, the type of car itself. All these considerations come into play: all-season are a result of a precise balance able to function all year, but a specific winter tyre remains preferable for the most severe weather conditions. The most important thing is to ensure that there’s an M+S or 3PMSF marking on the sidewall that denotes the tyre is suitable for winter conditions: avoiding fines and guaranteeing safety even in winter.

WINTER FOR THE DYNAMIC DRIVER

Winter tyres are preferable for drivers who cover big distances during the winter and are looking for the best possible performance in all cold-weather conditions. Thanks to their softer compound, which performs strongly even when temperatures are very low, winter tyres guarantee excellent road holding, optimal traction and safe braking on any type of surface, even with low grip. The chemical characteristics of winter tyre compounds allow shorter braking distances on snow-covered roads, where braking gets better by over 50% compared to a summer tyre. The specific tread pattern of a winter tyre also contributes to performance: in particular thanks to the sipes, whose main purpose is to collect and retain the snow inside them, improving grip with the ‘snow on snow friction’ effect, which allows maximum mobility without using snow chains. On top that, the generously-sized grooves allow for rapid and effective water dispersal, eliminating the danger of aquaplaning and maximising safety.

Pirelli offers a complete range of winter tyres. For the most powerful cars, the P Zero Winter is available, while the new Cinturato Winter 2 is aimed at drivers of city, urban and crossover cars. The Winter Sottozero 3 is an original equipment tyre aimed at high-end premium cars, while the Scorpion Winter is available for the latest-generation SUVs and CUVs. Carrier Winter is for vans and light trucks.

ALL SEASON FOR THE EVERYDAY URBAN DRIVER

All season tyres have become the preferred choice for many motorists who live in cities with temperate climates away from mountainous regions, and who aren’t particularly looking for sporting performance. Thanks to is unique design and make-up, an All Season tyre represents a targeted balance capable of operating at both high and low temperatures, as well as on wet and dry asphalt, delivering versatile overall performance. This type of tyre doesn’t offer the ultimate performance of summer tyres in summer, or winter tyres in winter, but still represents an excellent compromise in a wide variety of situations.

Milan, 11 October, 2021 – Pirelli launches the new Cinturato Winter 2: a winter tyre for medium-sized cars and CUVs. This debuts some important new technologies pioneered by the Italian firm, such as sipes on the tread pattern that become longer throughout the life of the tyre, capturing more snow to offer more grip. Available at launch in 36 different sizes from 16 to 20 inches, the Cinturato Winter 2 offers extra control in snowy and wet conditions, also aiding driver comfort during the coldest season. The Cinturato Winter 2 offers market-leading performance in all sorts of winter weather, as proven by renowned German certification board TÜV SÜD, which has awarded Pirelli’s new tyre its Performance Mark⁽¹⁾.

MORE SAFETY OVER TIME WITH VARIABLE TYRE SIPES

Pirelli’s newest tyre comes with innovative extendable tyre sipes, which enhance safety in all sorts of winter driving conditions from snow to rain, as well as on both slippery and dry surfaces in cold weather. Thanks to the tyre’s 3D structure, these sipes actually become longer as the rubber wears down, transforming themselves from a linear into a zig-zag shape. This increases their overall area and efficiency, giving the Cinturato Winter 2 extra performance in snowy, wet and dry conditions: even when worn. As a result, the Cinturato Winter 2 enjoys a longer useful life than its predecessor. In total, there are around 43 metres of sipes to improve grip on snowy surfaces, with a 30% improvement in roadholding on snow compared to the Sottozero 3.

MORE KILOMETRES WITH A NEW COMPOUND

The new Cinturato Winter 2 delivers more kilometres compared to the previous generation of Pirelli winter tyres thanks to a new compound, tread pattern, and structure, which prolongs the tyre’s performance throughout its life. The innovative Cinturato Winter 2 compound has been developed using an innovative system of liquid polymers that can improve performance in wet and snowy conditions, following a Pirelli-patented process derived from the company’s extensive motorsport experience. This process maximises the uniformity of the components within the compound, enhancing the performance of the tyre for longer on snowy or wet surfaces,

SILENCE AND RESPECT FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

Particular attention was paid to environmental sustainability, to help reduce fuel consumption and harmful emissions. Rolling resistance has come down on the Cinturato Winter 2 compared to its predecessor, which has been classified mainly in the B and C category on the European tyre label. To improve driving comfort, the Cinturato Winter 2 benefits from low road noise thanks to the specific design of the tread pattern, with consequent benefits for the environment that places the new tyre in the A and B category on the European tyre label.

DEVELOPED WITH VIRTUAL SIMULATION

The specific design of the tread pattern was arrived at via a process of virtual development aimed at optimising pressure over the contact patch. That started with the design of the grooves to guarantee efficient water expulsion – which allow control of the car even in aquaplaning situations – and continued with the definition and placement of the sipes to ensure maximum grip on snow.

SEAL INSIDE MEANS NO WORRIES EVEN WITH A PUNCTURE

The Cinturato Winter 2 is available in some sizes with Pirelli’s cutting-edge Seal Inside technology, to give drivers even more safety. This allows people to keep on driving even in the event of a puncture up to four millimetres. A specific mousse inside the tyre forms a seal that wraps itself around the foreign object as soon as it penetrates the tyre, preventing air from escaping and the tyre from losing pressure. When the object is extracted, the same material seals up the resulting hole.

ELECT TYRES TO MAXIMISE RANGE OF ELECTRIC AND HYBRID PLUG-IN VEHICLES

For electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids, the Elect-marked Cinturato Winter 2 is available in selected sizes. This is a package of technologies bringing together compound, structure, and tread pattern to guarantee low rolling resistance and maximise battery range. It adds reduced road noise to benefit from the quiet and comfort of electric cars, as well as instantly available grip to deliver the power and torque typical of electric engines, even from low revs.

PIRELLI RENEWS ITS WINTER RANGE

The new Cinturato Winter 2 replaces the first-generation Cinturato Winter tyres – in sizes ranging between 16 and 18 inches – as well as the aftermarket Sottozero 3, which complements the P Zero Winter: Pirelli’s winter tyre for more powerful cars with sizes greater than 18 inches, introduced last winter. The Cinturato Winter 2 concludes Pirelli’s complete renewal of the Cinturato family, following the presentation of the latest Cinturato P7 summer tyre in 2020 and the new Cinturato All Season SF2 at the beginning of this year.

THE CINTURATO CN12 FOR THE 1971 LP500

Pirelli, which has worked with Lamborghini since 1963, remade the tyres used for the LP500 prototype, which wore unique Cinturato CN12 covers when it was first displayed at the Geneva Motor Show. This was the very first low profile tyre, already used by the legendary Miura with different measures. Pirelli developed a specific version of this tyre for the LP500, with a height to width ratio of 0.6: the lowest that had ever been seen at the time. The tyres themselves were in 245/60 R14 size at the front and 265/60 R14 size at the rear: exactly the same dimensions used for today’s reconstructed version. The tread pattern design is identical too, while the compound and structure use the latest modern technology to offer more safety than was available at the time.

The revival of the Countach LP500, making its debut at the famous Villa d’Este Concours, was carried out by Lamborghini’s heritage division, which put in more than 25,000 hours of work to bring the dream of one the marque’s most dedicated collectors to life. The Lamborghini Countach became an instant classic, launching a series of immediately recognisable design cues that would go on to characterise the cars from the 1970s to now.

THE P ZERO RANGE: HIGH PERFORMANCE TYRES FOR EVERY MODERN LAMBORGHINI

The historic collaboration between Pirelli and Lamborghini – two Italian companies – can be defined as a continuous process of mutual technical innovation that has continued relentlessly over the decades. MORE THAN 3.5 KILOMETRES OF HISTORY AT THE PIRELLI FOUNDATION

To reproduce the tyres showcased in the Pirelli Collezione, it was vital to have access to all the materials used in their development when they were brand new, from design to production. These documents relating to every Pirelli tyre are carefully stored at the Pirelli Foundation: the group’s historical archive. Within it can be found tens of thousands of documents relating to the development of every tyre throughout the last century, as well as the specification of the machinery used to make them, not to mention technical files specifying the size of the moulds for vulcanisation, the design of the tread pattern, and the original markings – with size, type of tyre and company logo – on the sidewall.

The Pirelli Foundation, created in 2008, maintains an archive that’s more than 3.5 kilometres long, covering the history of Pirelli from its inauguration in 1872 until today. The archive also contains all the visual elements used to tell the story such as photographs, sketches and posters, as well as audio and film recordings and corporate magazines. Since 1972, it has been protected by the national cultural heritage department. The Pirelli Foundation hosts several activities that highlight the company’s industrial heritage, including publications, exhibitions and conventions, as well as guided tours. These events involve thousands of people every year, and a key element is education, with courses aimed at schools of every level, all the way up to leading universities. The key aim is to raise awareness of Pirelli’s world even among the youngest students, bringing them closer to the company’s values and culture.
