Milan, 1 September 2026 – Pirelli has developed two dedicated tyre fitments for the new Bentley Supersports, the coupé engineered to deliver the ultimate driving experience. They are the P Zero Trofeo RS, designed to enhance the car's sporting character, particularly on track, and the P Zero, developed for everyday driving. To mark the centenary of the "Super Sports" name, first introduced in 1925, the Crewe-based manufacturer has once again chosen Pirelli as its partner to harness the capabilities of a car that is radically different from any previous Continental GT: rear-wheel drive for the first time in the model's history (excluding the Continental GT3 race car), kerb weight below two tonnes, and 666 hp, 800 Nm twin-turbocharged V8 powertrain.

Bespoke development for a truly unique Bentley

Pirelli's collaboration with Bentley on the Supersports began with the most demanding technical brief ever set for a road-going Continental GT. The switch to rear-wheel drive, the introduction of an electronic limited-slip differential combined with brake-based torque vectoring, active rear-wheel steering, and a chassis featuring a rear track widened by 16 mm required tyres capable of managing completely different load transfers and drive force distribution compared with the all-wheel-drive Continental GT Speed.

This is further complemented by the car's aerodynamic package, which generates more than 300 kg of additional downforce compared with the Continental GT Speed through a larger front splitter, dive planes, side skirts, rear wheel arch vents and a rear diffuser. These elements significantly alter the vertical load acting on the tyres as speed increases. Pirelli engineers therefore fine-tuned the compounds, construction and tread pattern through an extensive development program—starting with virtual simulations before progressing to road and track testing—in close collaboration with Bentley's engineering team. The objective was to deliver consistent performance across all driving modes specified by the manufacturer, from Touring to Sport.

The result is two dedicated homologations, both identified by the "B" marking reserved by Pirelli for tyres developed specifically for Bentley.

P Zero: the original equipment fitment

The 22-inch Pirelli P Zero is fitted to the Supersports as its original equipment tyre, designed to complement the car's everyday usability and grand touring capabilities without compromising the sporting character that defines it. Its construction and compound have been optimized to combine ride comfort, low noise levels and steering precision, while delivering grip levels commensurate with the car's power and weight. Although significantly lighter than the Continental GT, the Supersports places considerable demands on its tyres due to its exceptional performance.

The P Zero has been specifically tuned to work in harmony with the Supersports' suspension and dual-chamber dampers, ensuring precise responses and outstanding stability.

P Zero Trofeo RS: the choice for track driving

For customers seeking the ultimate performance, Pirelli has developed the first bespoke P Zero Trofeo RS ever for a Bentley. This 22-inch semi-slick tyre is road legal yet engineered with a clear track-focused philosophy, representing another milestone in the partnership between the two brands.

Drawing directly on Pirelli's motorsport expertise, the compound, carcass construction and internal reinforcements have been specifically designed to withstand the significant aerodynamic loads generated by the Supersports, allowing the car to express its full dynamic potential. Equipped with this fitment, the Supersports achieves peak lateral acceleration of 1.3 g and improves cornering speeds by approximately 30% compared with the Continental GT Speed.

One anecdote from the development program illustrates just how impressive the performance proved to be. During the first track test on P Zero Trofeo RS tyres, the level of lateral grip exceeded the parameters anticipated by the vehicle's electronic control systems, triggering the seat belt pretensioners.

Perfect Fit: the hallmark of Pirelli's bespoke development

Both tyre fitments have been developed through Pirelli's "Perfect Fit" programme, the co-development process through which the company designs bespoke tyres for individual vehicle models in close collaboration with manufacturers' engineering teams. Combining advanced virtual simulations with joint testing programmes, Perfect Fit enables every aspect of the tyre—from compound and construction to tread pattern and carcass stiffness—to be optimized for the specific characteristics of each vehicle, ensuring seamless integration between tyre and vehicle.

This latest development builds on the long-standing partnership between Pirelli and Bentley, over the many years of  the evolution of the Continental GT range which now enters a new chapter with the Supersports, the purest and most driver-focused Bentley ever produced.

The relationship dates back to the early 1980s, when the first dedicated tyres were developed for the Bentley Mulsanne Turbo R and RT. Pirelli has since engineered bespoke solutions for a wide range of Bentley models, from the Arnage and Continental GT to the Bentayga, for which specific 23-inch P Zero tyres were developed. Over the years, Pirelli has also supplied tyres for several Bentley racing programs, including the Continental GT3, contributing to the cars' success across multiple championships.

The partnership with the Crewe marque has also helped secure some of Bentley's most significant achievements, including the production SUV record at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb with the Bentley Bentayga in 2018, followed by the outright production car record with the Bentley Continental GT in 2019. Most recently, in 2024, the Continental GT Speed set a speed record inside a subsea tunnel in Norway.

For the first all-electric Cayenne, Pirelli has developed six tailor-made tyre fitments through an entirely virtual design process, each engineered to match the vehicle's different characteristics across varying seasonal conditions. These include the fifth generation of the P Zero, designed to deliver the ideal balance of performance, efficiency and range, as well as the P Zero R for the high-performance Cayenne Turbo. The range also includes two winter tyre options and one All Season tyre. All are equipped with Pirelli's Elect technology, specifically developed to meet the demands of electric mobility. Pirelli Elect is a package of technologies designed for electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, enhancing their performance through low rolling resistance to maximize driving range and reduce charging costs, while dedicated compounds and structures provide outstanding grip when managing instant torque and increased vehicle weight, together with improved wear resistance and lower noise levels for greater acoustic comfort.

VIRTUAL DEVELOPMENT FOR PORSCHE SUV DRIVING DYNAMICS

The new Porsche Cayenne Electric sets new benchmarks in the SUV segment thanks to an advanced chassis and sophisticated control systems capable of managing drive torque within milliseconds. To support this level of engineering complexity, Pirelli adopted a fully virtual development approach, with every aspect of the new tyre fitment tested before physical prototypes were produced, significantly optimizing development times compared with traditional processes. P Zero Trofeo RS: the benchmark for the track

With this latest Nürburgring achievement, the Pirelli P Zero Trofeo RS confirms its status as the tyre to beat on the track. First developed as original equipment for hypercars and supercars, and already available in bespoke versions for Stuttgart-based models such as the Porsche 911 GT3 and GT3 RS, it is now also available on the replacement market, bringing Pirelli’s experience gained through tailor-made fitments for the highest-performing prestige and premium models to all customers. Milan, 20 April 2026 – The Pirelli P Zero Trofeo RS is the best among the world’s fastest tyres, designed for track use but also approved for road driving. This is according to the Tyre Reviews platform, which compared four products available on the European and North American markets. The P Zero Trofeo RS represents the pinnacle of Pirelli’s road range and incorporates technological solutions derived from its motorsport experience, where the company has competed at the highest levels for 120 years.

“I had to recalibrate my braking points twice because the grip was always beyond my expectations,” said Jonathan Benson during the dry handling test, where the P Zero Trofeo RS ranked first, setting the fastest lap time and proving to be “clearly superior”. During testing, it enabled quick and precise turn-in, allowing earlier throttle application and delivering immediate traction on corner exit. The front axle showed a high level of grip and confidence: “It was the first time I didn’t feel I had to constantly  understeer through corners”. In the dry braking test, the Pirelli tyre also ranked first, recording the shortest stopping distance.

In addition, the Pirelli tyre stood out for its consistency of performance, confirming one of the product’s key characteristics: even under the most demanding conditions, it is able to maintain high performance over time.

P Zero R ad hoc development to maximize braking performance and grip

Audi’s primary objective was braking performance: the P Zero R was designed to approach the levels of the Trofeo R – Pirelli’s semi-slick tyre already fitted on other RS models – ensuring extremely short stopping distances, with very rapid and repeatable deceleration even under stress conditions. To achieve this result, Pirelli’s German R&D center in Breuberg focused on the compound, in close collaboration with Milan headquarters, leveraging experience gained in motorsport. The new compound has been optimized to deliver superior performance even when cold and a very high level of grip, responding to Audi’s specific request to focus on safety and control during deceleration. Even with performance levels close to track-oriented products, the P Zero R is designed for everyday use on sports cars and has higher efficiency—certified by the European label—compared to the main ultra-high-performance products.

“The tyre is the only connection between the vehicle and the road surface. Therefore, it plays a significant role in chassis development, especially in our RS models, where excellent handling has paramount importance”, says Steffen Bamberger, Head of Technical Development at Audi Sport GmbH. “Plus a close, collaborative partnership is essential to achieving this level of performance”.

The perfect balance of road and track

The RS 3 competition limited, created to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the five-cylinder engine, features a coilover suspension, increased top speed and ceramic brakes, thus providing impressive driving dynamics. Two tyre types are available: the standard P Zero R demonstrates a strong grip level on both dry and wet surfaces, and combines everyday comfort with sporty characteristics. Beyond that the P Zero Trofeo R semi-slick is specifically designed for track use but homologated for road driving. In addition to an asymmetrical tread pattern, the tyre features a specific rubber compound, derived from motorsport. This combination ensures a remarkably high level of grip and increased performance in dry conditions. Stability and lateral support are further enhanced, and braking distances are particularly short.

Joint development, including virtual simulation

The development process leveraged digital simulation both at Pirelli and Audi’s R&D centers, making it possible to simulate tyre behavior by taking into account weight distribution and contact patch, and to optimize the management of high torque and wear resistance. Physical tests then confirmed the virtual data through joint sessions on some of the most demanding circuits in the world, from the Nürburgring Nordschleife for handling and durability, to test tracks in Spain and laboratories in Milan.

Hybrid RS performance redefined: precision tyre for RS level dynamics

The first high-performance plug-in hybrid (PHEV) from Audi Sport, the RS 5 marks a historic step and a technological challenge that required the development of the first High Load (HL) tyre size for this model. The structure of the P Zero R has been reinforced to support the greater weight of the hybrid components, while ensuring the driving precision required for an Audi RS vehicle. This dedicated tyre allows the high torque of the hybrid system to be effectively transferred to the road, offering greater grip and stability. Milan, 13 January 2026 – 2025 was a record year for Pirelli innovation, with many awards won in tests and the recognition for Cyber™ Tyre technology, all granted by independent bodies and specialized magazines.

The new tyres from the P Zero, Cinturato, and Scorpion families, in fact, notched up 27 podiums over the year, including 15 first places out of 34 comparative tests. In particular, the products launched in 2025 for the global market, the P Zero and Cinturato, both reached the top of the podium twice. Even in the most demanding conditions, it consistently maintains grip and driving precision over long periods of time, allowing the driver to fully exploit the potential of the car.

Having been asked to develop a bespoke P Zero Trofeo RS for the Porsche 911 GT3 RS by the manufacturer, Pirelli’s know-how has now been transferred to the new tyre dedicated to the latest Porsche 911 GT3.

Even though it is a highly specialised product, tailor-made versions of the P Zero Trofeo RS have been developed for a number of very different models: from the Porsche GT3 RS – the most extreme model in the roadgoing range – to the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT, a high-performance electric car.

Pirelli’s Perfect Fit: tailor-made tyres

The P Zero R and P Zero Trofeo RS tyres developed specifically for the Porsche 911 GT3 follow Pirelli’s Perfect Fit strategy, which is based on the creation of tailor-made tyres for each model. In fact, they feature the “N” marking on the sidewall, which testifies to their specific development for the 911 GT3. Thanks to the use of advanced virtualisation techniques at the R&D centres in Milan and Breuberg, there was a 30% reduction in both the fitments' development time and use of physical prototypes.

Extreme performance meets tyre sustainability: the three bespoke tyres developed for McLaren’s latest supercar are made with over 50% bio-based and recycled materials¹, as verified by a third party according to ISO 14021.

Milan, 4 November 2025 – Pirelli has equipped the new McLaren W1 supercar with three bespoke tyre fitments made from more than 50% bio-based and recycled materials: a figure certified by independent body Bureau Veritas. These new tyres – P Zero R, P Zero Trofeo RS, and P Zero Winter 2 – have been specially developed by Pirelli in collaboration with McLaren and are offered in an exclusive specification for the new model, for which Pirelli is the sole tyre supplier.

This latest project involved close cooperation between the Research & Development (R&D) teams at Pirelli and McLaren, from the earliest stages of development and testing. Initially working in a virtual environment – supported by state-of-the-art driving simulation technology – the engineers progressed to physical tests to assess tyre performance in differing weather and surface conditions. Locations included the Nardò circuit in southern Italy, Idiada track in Spain, and Pirelli’s Sottozero Centre in Sweden - all ideal venues for exploiting the extreme high-performance of the W1.

The new tyres developed for the McLaren W1 cover every aspect of use for the flagship supercar which features a hybrid powertrain capable of delivering up to 1,275PS and 1,340Nm through the rear wheels alone. Capable of astonishing acceleration of 0-300km/h in less than 12.7 seconds and a maximum speed electronically limited to 350km/h, it also has a Race mode that generates up to 1,000kg of downforce, demanding the very best in tyre technology. The P Zero R, the first developed for a McLaren, is designed for daily driving; the P Zero Trofeo RS is a track-biased tyre that delivers consistently high performance, while colder seasons are handled by the P Zero Winter 2. All three tyres for the W1 will be produced at Pirelli’s plant in Settimo Torinese, Italy.

The bespoke P Zero tyres are the very first supercar tyres made with over 50% bio-based and recycled materials. This milestone is part of Pirelli’s industrial plan, which aims to launch the first tyres containing 80% of these materials by 2030. A key step on this journey was the launch of the P Zero E in 2023: the first high-performance tyre on the market to contain more than 55% bio-based and recycled materials^[1] and feature a triple “A” certification on the European tyre label.

This tyre also introduced the logo that now identifies all Pirelli products containing at least 50% sustainable materials.

Innovation, digitalization, and a focus on sustainability and the quality of raw materials and services were the central themes of Pirelli Supplier Day 2025, the annual event dedicated to its global suppliers. This year's event featured 85 “strategic suppliers”: a selection of Pirelli partners from 21 countries who contributed significantly to the company's success in achieving its targets. Among these, the 7 suppliers who stood out in the past year were recognized with the Supplier Award. The event took place yesterday at Pirelli's Headquarters in Milan, with the participation of Pirelli Executive Vice Chairman Marco Tronchetti Provera, CEO Andrea Casaluci, and Head of Value Chain Luca Galantina.

INNOVATION AS A COMPETITIVE LEVER

One of the key criteria in selecting the winners was the ability to innovate, a central pillar of Pirelli's strategy. One example of this is the new P Zero, now in its fifth generation, designed using virtual development techniques and artificial intelligence. This is also true for the P Zero E, which recently won the ADI International Compasso d'Oro Award, one of the most prestigious international recognitions in the field of industrial design. In materials development, the Virtual Compounder was introduced. This tool, developed by Pirelli and based on generative AI, accelerates the identification of the best material combinations for new compounds, maximizing process efficiency from the laboratory to the factory and reducing the need for physical prototypes. Artificial intelligence has also been integrated into industrial processes to optimize planning, detect developments that could impact the quality of the finished product in real time, and improve safety and efficiency in factories.

ENVIRONMENTAL CARE IS THE KEY TO NEW PRODUCTS AND PROCESSES

Supplier Day 2025 was also an opportunity to reaffirm Pirelli's commitment to sustainability, as demonstrated by the recent launch of the first tyre for the global market made with over 70% bio-based and recycled materials, including FSC™ (Forest Stewardship Council™) [1] certified natural rubber, developed in a specific version for JLR (Jaguar Land Rover). All plants are also working to improve efficiency, reducing energy consumption per unit produced through the electrification of production processes, and to reduce absolute CO₂ emissions by purchasing electricity from renewable sources at 100% of the group's sites or using steam from renewable sources.

These are the winning companies in the 2025 edition of the Pirelli Supplier Awards by category:

• The Process Innovation award went to ZF, a supplier of indoor testing machinery, for its high level of precision, reliability, and innovations that have accelerated the synergies between indoor, outdoor, and virtual testing;

• In the Materials, the Material Innovation title was won by KURARAY, a supplier of liquid polymers and a partner in creating high-performance solutions using cutting-edge development approaches;

A technological collaboration that sees Pirelli and Porsche also involved in further joint development projects for classic models

Milan, 15 October 2025. Pirelli offers tyres for classics and youngtimer Porsche 911, from the first 1964 model to the Porsche 911 (type 997). This breadth of offering makes Pirelli the go-to supplier for Porsche collectors, thanks in part to the Collezione range for numerous other classic Porsche models, such as the 356, 914, 928 and 944. These tyres are designed specifically for the cars they equip, preserving the original aesthetics while using modern materials and technologies, to offer maximum safety and compliance with currently applicable regulations.

PIRELLI COLLEZIONE: CLASSIC TYRES ON THE OUTSIDE, MODERN ON THE INSIDE

As a testament to the joint development between the Pirelli and Porsche Reasearch and Development departments, the tyres bear the "N" marking on the sidewall: the symbol applied on all tyres that have been specifically approved and tested by Porsche. The Collezione range aims to preserve the historic automotive heritage, combining technical innovation with aesthetic fidelity. This is maintained thanks to the contribution of the Pirelli Foundation, which preserves, among other documents, the designs and specificities of historic tyres in an archive of approximately 4 linear kilometers of materials on Pirelli's history, from 1872 to the present day.

FROM THE CINTURATO CN36 TO THE P ZERO, THE EVOLUTION OF THE 911

The history of the Porsche 911 began at the 1963 International Motor Show Germany (IAA) in Frankfurt, where it was introduced as the "Porsche 901," the successor to the Porsche 356. A few years later, the production versions were equipped with the Cinturato CN36, the first Pirelli sports car tyre to use steel belts. Ten years after its debut and following the release of numerous versions, the Porsche 911 evolved into the G model, which gave rise to the 911 Turbo. This model was equipped with the Cinturato P7, a tyre originally developed for rally races and later a successful product in the road range. It was the first ultra-low-profile tyre to be introduced to the market. Its main feature was its lower sidewall relative to the tread width with a previously unseen aspect ratio, which significantly increased grip when cornering. Subsequent generations adopted the P Zero Rosso, designed to offer the perfect balance between high performance, comfort, and low noise, ensuring safe sporty driving even at high speeds. In 2005, the sixth generation arrived, the Porsche 911 (type 997), for which the P Zero is also available. Further joint development projects are also underway to develop new tyres for classic Porsche models.

This year, the Compasso d’Oro Award was inspired by the Expo theme – Designing Future Society for our Lives – with Pirelli awarded in one of the key areas: Connecting Lives. This is about connecting people through the development of technologically advanced products featuring reduced environmental impact, such as the P Zero E: the first tyre in the world designed with an unprecedented percentage of natural and recycled materials, especially in the high-performance segment for which it is intended. As a perfect synthesis of industrial design, sustainable innovation, and technology, this tyre represented a revolutionary turning point for the industry.

The Pirelli P Zero E was launched in 2023 as the first Ultra High Performance tyre in the world with more than 55% bio-based and recycled materials, maintaining performance and safety even in challenging conditions such as wet asphalt. Performance, efficiency, and comfort are highlighted by a triple “Class A” score for wet grip, rolling resistance, and noise on the European tyre label. This tyre is designed to maximise electric and plug-in hybrid vehicle efficiency (with the capability of increasing mileage by up to 10% thanks to Elect technology[1]) and is equipped as standard with Pirelli’s most advanced proprietary technologies including RunForward, which allows driving to continue even after a puncture. This is an invisible revolution that is nonetheless capable of setting a new direction for the development of future tyres, claiming the “Tyre of the Year” prize at the 2023 Automobile Club de France Awards.

As a result, P Zero E is at the vanguard of Pirelli’s technological innovations alongside Cyber Tyre: the world’s first hardware and software system capable of collecting information from embedded sensors within the tyres and processing that data via proprietary software and algorithms. This enables new vehicle functionalities, as well as integration with other digital environments such as smart roads and smart cities.

PIRELLI AND THE COMPASSO D’ORO

Pirelli’s history has intertwined several times with that of the ADI Compasso d’Oro Award, thanks to advertising campaigns from great names in graphic design, as well as iconic industrial design products. These have ranged from foam rubber toys, electromechanical clocks, and rubber flooring in the past to the Pirelli Foundation’s most recent projects. The ‘Rubber Soul’ exhibition, which won the 2013 Red Dot Design Award 2013, was included in the ADI Design Index, while the ‘Publicity with a Capital P’ editorial project was nominated for the 2020 Award.

THE P ZERO E AT EXPO 2025 OSAKA

Together with this year’s other winners, the P Zero E will be featured as part of an exhibition in the Italian Pavilion, before entering the permanent collection of the ADI Design Museum in Milan. In line with the Expo theme – “Designing Future Society for Our Lives” – the P Zero E embodies a modern vision of mobility, connecting people and positioning itself as a benchmark for sustainability and circularity thanks to the use of recovered materials such as lignin. This tyre was developed with data-driven and artificial intelligence-based technologies, involving all major Pirelli R&D centres worldwide as well as numerous collaborations with universities, specialised centres and suppliers.

THE AUTO EXPRESS TEST

In the wet, an area to which the magazine paid particular attention, the new P Zero stood out thanks to its efficiency and safety, claiming the top result when it came to roadholding and also scoring excellent points for braking and aquaplaning resistance. The tyre also delivered excellent performance in the dry, with outstanding results both in terms of handling and braking. Finally, in the acoustic comfort tests – which measured perceived noise by drivers and passengers on both rough and smooth surfaces – the new P Zero recorded very low levels of rolling noise. The magazine wrote: “Pirelli’s latest P Zero scored three first places, more than any other tyre, but what made it stand out was that two of these top marks were in wet and dry handling, underlining its mastery of all conditions.”

This result was made possible thanks to innovative development methods: the leap in quality with this new generation comes also thanks to the use of artificial intelligence systems and proprietary algorithms created by Pirelli, which helped the R&D team to identify cutting-edge solutions and reach an unprecedented level of understanding of tyre dynamics. Tests carried out on virtual prototypes were another essential part of the process, allowing better results in less time while reducing the amount of physical prototypes needed.

THE KEY CHARACTERISTICS OF THE NEW P ZERO

The key strengths of the new P Zero, confirmed once more in the Auto Express comparative test are performance and safety, along with handling that has been further improved. The research work concentrated on the tyre structure and tread pattern design, which has been additionally enhanced thanks to changes to the grooves and contact patch, benefitting cornering grip. A more even distribution of pressure makes braking more efficient and reduces wear, guaranteeing consistent performance throughout the life of the tyre.

For 40 years, Pirelli P Zero has been the preferred choice of premium and prestige carmakers as well as a champion of homologations and a benchmark for performance and safety; not to mention the place where Pirelli’s landmark technologies – such as Elect in 2019 and Cyber Tyre in 2021 – make their debuts.

The cars in the parade tackled the famed Goodwood Hillclimb, the centrepiece of the Festival of Speed, and were selected to showcase the defining traits of the Pirelli P Zero. Leading the lineup was the Ferrari F40, originally fitted with the first-generation P Zero on its 1987 debut. Next up was the Lancia Delta S4 Stradale, which had been equipped with a “zero” version of the iconic tyre two years earlier, featuring a unique tread pattern design that blended slick, intermediate, and wet profiles, as used in motorsport. Then there was the Lamborghini Urus SE, the very first model homologated with the new fifth-generation P Zero. Representing the new era of electric hypercars was the Lotus Evija, once the most powerful production car ever launched, equipped with P Zero Trofeo R tyres marked with “Elect”: Pirelli’s signature for tyres that are specifically engineered for BEVs and PHEVs. The McLaren Artura and Pagani Utopia Roadster were the first cars equipped with Pirelli’s Cyber Tyre system as standard. This is the only hardware and software solution capable of collecting real-time data from sensors inside the tyres, which is processed via proprietary algorithms and communicated to the car’s own electronic systems; enabling previously unimaginable levels of functionalities. The Porsche 911 Carrera 4 GTS, fitted with P Zero R tyres, embodied the balance between performance, safety, and versatility that defines the P Zero family. At the same time, the Aston Martin Vanquish Volante - the V12 convertible grand tourer - represented the pure joy of driving. The future of mobility was symbolised by the BMW Vision Driving Experience: a concept car previewing the brand’s next-generation models. Closing the 10,000-horsepower parade was a Formula 1 car fitted with 18-inch P Zero tyres, linking road and track to highlight the famed motorsport heritage from which the P Zero was born, and from which it still continues to transfer technology today.

Pirelli P Zero’s innovation also extends to reducing environmental impact: during the Festival of Speed, Pirelli and JLR – Jaguar Land Rover unveiled the world’s first global-market production tyre made from over 70% bio-based and recycled materials. The tyre, also featuring FSC™-certified natural rubber, is a specifically developed P Zero and will be initially available on selected 22” wheel options on Range Rover.

Today, P Zero is a brand that inextricably links the race track to the road, representing an entire family of products chosen by premium and prestige car manufacturers worldwide. In the prestige segment, Pirelli P Zero tyres equip over 50% of the models available on the market. MATERIALS INNOVATION

The development of the new P Zero put a significant challenge for Pirelli’s Research & Development department: combining Ultra-High Performance (UHP) with a high content of bio-based and recycled materials, which include:

·         Recycled steel, partially sourced from the melting of scrap metal instead of virgin raw materials, while maintaining the mechanical properties of virgin steel.

·         Rice husk-derived silica, obtained from rice processing waste, used in tread compounds to ensure high performance in the wet.

·         Circular carbon black, produced through pyrolysis oil obtained from end-of-life tyres.

·         Bio-circular polymers, manufactured from monomers derived from used cooking oil or pyrolysis oil, replacing fossil-based polymers.

·         Bio-resins, plant-based plasticisers that help optimise the balance between dry and wet performance.

P ZERO AND INNOVATION

P Zero is the product line where Pirelli debuts its latest technologies: this renowned accent on innovation makes Pirelli the preferred choice of premium and prestige car manufacturers worldwide.

Back in 2021, Pirelli produced the very first tyre made with FSC™-certified natural rubber. The collaboration with JLR represents a new initiative to increase the share of recycled and bio-based materials in tyres, marking another step forward in the journey toward sustainability. Moreover, this product will also serve as a testing lab for materials innovation, as the percentage of components with low environmental impact is set to increase over time.

In 2024, JLR became the first car manufacturer ever to equip its vehicles with Pirelli tyres containing 100% FSC™-certified natural rubber.

THE P ZERO FOR THE LANCIA DELTA S4 STRADALE

To mark the fortieth anniversary of the P Zero line, as well as the Lancia Delta S4 Stradale, Pirelli has recreated, in a limited edition of 40 sets, the Pirelli P Zero that debuted in 1985 on what was the road version of a motorsport icon like the Lancia Delta S4 Group B.

The tyre was born of Pirelli's experience in competition and was derived from the radial tyres that the Milanese company supplied to car manufacturers competing in the World Rally Championship. Today, it is available in the 205/55 R16 size - the only one originally developed – of the Pirelli Collezione line, dedicated to iconic vehicles built between 1930 and 2000. Like every tyre in this range, it is distinguished by its appearance, the same as that of the era, but is made with modern materials and technologies that combine the original sportiness of the car with greater safety.

The re-edition of the tyre also features the innovative elements that characterized its debut. It features a single tread that combines the three souls of the racing tire: the inner shoulder, with grooves like wet-weather tyres, ensured grip on wet roads. The outer shoulder, inspired by slick tyres, provided traction in dry conditions. The central part of the tread adopted some of the hallmarks of intermediate tyres, balancing the two extremes.

THE FIFTH GENERATION

Pirelli recently introduced the fifth generation of P Zero, creating a product that, also in this iteration, continues to satisfy the evolving needs of high-end mobility. Among the characteristics of the new tyre, improved handling and reduced braking distance obtained thanks to virtual development techniques and artificial intelligence. The fifth generation of P Zero offers a range between 18 and 23 inches, with over 50 products already available that add to the others in the P Zero family to provide complete coverage of the premium and prestige market in all its applications.

The tests were carried out in real-world conditions on both dry and wet surfaces. Among all the candidates, the P Zero stood out for its grip in dry and wet conditions, as well as aquaplaning resistance, comfort, and low noise levels. The results highlighted an excellent balance between safety and performance: two of the defining characteristics of the new tyre.

On dry surfaces, the new P Zero excelled when it came to stability, balance, grip, and outstanding braking; delivering the best performance compared to competitors. The New P Zero

The fifth generation of the P Zero showcases significant improvements, achieved through innovative development technologies based on artificial intelligence systems and proprietary algorithms developed by Pirelli. Pirelli’s iconic tyre, the preferred option for the world’s premium and prestige car manufacturers, is now in its fifth generation. For 40 years, it has symbolised technological innovation.

Milan, March 31, 2025 – Pirelli has launched the fifth generation of its iconic P Zero: the flagship model of a tyre family that has been synonymous with performance and safety since 1985. The P Zero was the first to establish the Ultra-High Performance (UHP) tyre market, continuously evolving over the years to anticipate the demands of the premium and prestige automotive segments.

The P Zero brand, originally born out of Pirelli’s long expertise in motorsport, has expanded into a comprehensive family of tyres that meets the diverse needs of the high-end market.

FEATURES OF THE NEW P ZERO

The breakthroughs that characterise the new P Zero were achieved thanks to advanced development technologies. By combining artificial intelligence systems with algorithms designed by Pirelli, the company’s research and development engineers created groundbreaking solutions to achieve an unprecedented understanding of tyre performance dynamics. Virtual prototype testing also played a key role in this process, reducing development time and optimizing resources.

The P Zero has two key strengths – excellence in performance and safety – thanks to improved handling, highlighted by track tests on both dry and wet surfaces, and reduced braking distances. From its launch, the new tyre has been rated “A” on the European wet grip label^[1]. One of the key goals for Pirelli’s latest product was to keep ahead of the rapidly evolving needs of today’s automotive market, beginning with the transition to electric mobility.

The development strategy focused on tyre structure and tread design, which was optimised through updates to the grooves and contact patch to enhance cornering grip. A more balanced contact patch improves braking performance and wear rate to ensure consistent performance throughout the entire life cycle of the tyre. The new P Zero also stands out visually, thanks to new graphics with contrasting markings on the sidewall.

THE NEW P ZERO LINE-UP

The fifth-generation P Zero tyre comes in sizes from 18 to 23 inches, with over 50 products already available. These sit alongside the other tyres from the P Zero family to provide complete coverage for the premium and prestige market across all applications. Most of the new line-up features Pirelli’s specialities, such as Elect: a technology package for electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles that increases range by up to 10% thanks to reduced rolling resistance; adopting solutions specifically designed to handle high torque and reduce noise.

On top of that, Pirelli’s engineers are already working to equip dozens of soon-to-be released cars, with specific versions already homologated for models such as the Lamborghini Urus SE, Audi A5, BMW M5 and M5 Touring, Mercedes GLE and GLS, Lucid Gravity, Polestar 4, Nio ET9, and Xiaomi SU7.

FORTY YEARS OF CONTINUOUS INNOVATION

This latest tyre showcases how high performance and technology continue to be the key strengths of the P Zero range, benefiting from Pirelli’s close relationship with all the major car manufacturers in the premium and prestige segments. These valued partnerships have resulted in Pirelli equipping more than 50% of high and ultra-high-end vehicles across all markets worldwide.

Over the past 40 years, more than 3,000 bespoke versions of the P Zero have been created for cars such as the Ferrari F40, Lamborghini Aventador, McLaren P1, every Pagani, Aston Martin V12 Vantage, and Porsche 911, as well as dozens of other models from brands including Audi, BMW, Jaguar Land Rover, and Mercedes.

The P Zero family has always been a vital development laboratory for Pirelli. In fact, innovations such as Elect in 2019 and P Zero E in 2023 (the world’s first UHP tyre in which over 55% of materials are from natural or recycled sources and with a triple ‘A’ rating on the European label) were born of P Zero technology.

P ZERO: A FAMILY OF PRODUCTS, FROM TRACK TO ROAD

The P Zero family includes UHP products designed for a wide range of uses: from electric cars to track driving, as well as under winter conditions. Alongside this latest P Zero, other members of the extended family cater for every driving need. These include the P Zero E (which combines e-mobility and safety – demonstrated by the triple ‘A’ rating on the European tyre label – as well as reduced environmental impact, thanks to the use of more than 55% natural or recycled materials) and the P Zero R, designed to maximize sporting performance and driving pleasure for high-performance cars and SUVs. For track driving, Pirelli offers the P Zero Trofeo RS, which is also homologated for road use.

The range also includes the P Zero Winter 2, enhancing performance and driving pleasure even on wet or snowy surfaces.

The P Zero name first appeared in motorsport and remains synonymous with the very highest level of tyre performance, from Formula 1 through to many other categories.

P Zero continues to set the standard for performance road tyres today, a fact often confirmed by comparison tests published by leading automotive titles. P Zero has also always been at the vanguard of Pirelli’s innovations. In 2019, the P Zero first introduced the Elect package for electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, which went on to become an industry benchmark. In 2023, Pirelli launched the P Zero E, the first Ultra High-Performance (UHP) tyre with at least 55% bio-based or recycled materials, earning a coveted “triple A” rating on the European tyre label. In motorsport, where it originated, P Zero is synonymous with the pinnacle of performance: from Formula 1 to all sorts of other racing categories.

THE BIRTH OF THE P ZERO

The P Zero name first appeared in 1985, making its debut on the Lancia Delta S4 Stradale. This first road-going P Zero was an evolution of its predecessor, which was used on the legendary Lancia Delta S4 Group B rally car. The Lancia Delta S4 became legendary for its technological advancements and cutting-edge dynamics, with Pirelli being the natural choice to develop a tyre capable of delivering exceptional performance. This single request sparked a veritable revolution in the tyre industry, leading to the creation of the UHP (Ultra High-Performance) category. The name "P Zero" symbolised a new beginning for the Italian tyre firm, combining Pirelli's traditional "P" with the word "Zero."

That revolution occurred alongside transformative changes in the automotive world. In the 1980s, turbocharging and supercharging in sports cars led to unprecedented power outputs and new levels of performance. Without the electronic driving aids we take for granted today, the tyres played a crucial role in providing grip, stability, and safety.

At the time, Pirelli’s flagship performance tyre was the P7: the very first low-profile tyre in history, launched in 1976. The knowledge gained from the P7 – on both roads and race tracks –combined with the vision of Pirelli’s engineer Mario Mezzanotte, paved the way for the P Zero.

The concept was simple yet groundbreaking: to combine the three core attributes of racing tyres into a single tread pattern. The inner shoulder, with grooves like wet-weather tyres, ensured grip on wet roads. The outer shoulder, inspired by slick tyres, provided traction in dry conditions. The central part of the tread adopted some of the hallmarks of intermediate tyres, balancing the two extremes. This winning combination represented a significant innovation, surpassing the traditional boundaries of tyre design.

One motoring journalist famously summed up this innovation after driving a Delta S4 equipped with then-new P Zero tyres: “Let’s hope the traffic police are aware of it,” he joked. “We wouldn’t want the smooth part to get mistaken for a worn tyre!”

Pirelli’s motorsport expertise was instrumental in transferring this advanced technology to road tyres. One particularly remarkable incident showcased the road-going P Zero's wide-ranging capabilities. During the Sanremo Rally, Miki Biasion’s Lancia Delta S4 used standard P Zero tyres (which were not yet on sale to the general public) on the road sections from stage to stage. They performed so well that he decided to keep them on the car for one very damp stage. He went on to win that stage, outperforming competitors on bespoke competition tyres. 

PIRELLI'S PERFECT FIT STRATEGY

In addition to pioneering the UHP segment, P Zero marked the beginning of Pirelli’s Perfect Fit strategy, which tailors tyres to the specific needs of premium and prestige car manufacturers. Today, the P Zero range includes various versions that are made to measure for different vehicles, uses, and seasons. P Zero equips everything from premium sedans to supercars and sporty SUVs, now taking in summer, winter, and all-season applications. After the pioneering tyre that was initially developed in small quantities for the Lancia Delta S4 Stradale, the first-generation P Zero was created for the Ferrari F40 in 1987.

In the coming months, Pirelli is set to unveil the eagerly-anticipated fifth evolution of the famous P Zero: the latest chapter in an ongoing story of technological innovation.

WHICH TYRES TO CHOOSE?

The ideal choice for cold weather is always winter tyres, which are made with specific compounds to offer optimal grip and increased traction on both dry and wet surfaces, reducing the risk of aquaplaning.

On both winter and all season tyres, it’s important to check the markings on the sidewall. The M+S symbol denotes a tyre that has been specially designed for tricky surfaces, but even higher levels of safety are indicated by the 3PMSF logo (representing a mountain with three peaks, along with a snowflake). This logo means that the tyre has passed all the tests associated with the most challenging conditions in winter.

So the level of safety is clearly illustrated by the markings, but the choice to fit winter or all season tyres comes down to a number of different factors. Above all, it depends on how the car is used. Intense use with higher mileage (in excess of 25,000 kilometres a year) as well as more powerful and bigger cars, or frequent drives in mountainous areas, call for a full winter tyre. Predominantly urban driving and smaller vehicles (from city cars to compact SUVs) allow for the use of all season tyres.

Swapping between summer and winter tyres is the best choice for the majority of drivers, but the other option is an all season tyre, such as the Pirelli Cinturato All Season SF3. This meets the needs of more urban drivers perfectly, as many comparative tests recently won by the new Pirelli have already proven.

DRIVING ADVICE FOR WINTER

As well as having the right tyre, it’s important to have the right driving style. Whenever it’s dry in winter, the same approach can generally be taken as in summer, but it’s important to remember that there’s less grip and so it’s advisable to maintain a bigger margin of safety.

Wet or snowy conditions are a different proposition, where the same sort of driving style should be adopted as for fuel-saving. In other words, no harsh acceleration, which can cause wheelspin on snow, while braking should be kept to a minimum, with engine braking preferred instead. Maintaining a healthy stopping instance is also more important than ever, to avoid running into the car in front. When it comes to parking, diagonally is best if possible: especially when snowploughs dump snow by the side of the road.

Drivers of electric cars need to pay particular attention: battery life tends to diminish in winter, which means that it’s better to rely on tyres with low rolling resistance. This is a fundamental characteristic to guarantee a longer range, which Pirelli caters for thanks to its bespoke ‘Elect’ technology. The very first winter car tyre to score ‘A’ for rolling resistance has been recently launched by Pirelli: the P Zero Winter 2 for the BMW i7.

EUROPEAN LEGISLATION AROUND WINTER TYRES

Those travelling around Europe need to know about individual regulations that apply to each country. Both Germany and France are changing their rules about winter tyres this year, for example.

France: From 1 November to 31 March, winter tyres with M+S and 3PMSF markings are compulsory in mountainous regions and areas that are specifically signposted.

Germany: The use of winter tyres, which are identified with M+S and 3PMSF symbols in Germany, are compulsory for wintry roads and conditions.

Austria: For roads in winter conditions M+S marked tyres with a tread depth of at least four millimetres on all four wheels are compulsory from 1 November to 15 April.

Switzerland: Winter tyres are not mandatory, but anyone who causes traffic congestion by driving on summer tyres in winter conditions, or anyone who has tyres judged to be defective, can be punished. 

Croatia: In winter conditions from 15 November to 15 April, it’s compulsory to fit winter tyres with M+S markings and a tread depth of at least four millimetres on all the wheels.

Greece: From 15 October to 15 March it’s obligatory to fit M+S and 3PMSF winter tyres on all four wheels on roads that are covered in snow, specifically signposted, or in the case of specific public announcements.

Spain: M+S tyres have to be used at least on the driven wheels if it snows, and chains can be used in indicated areas, up to a maximum speed of 50kph, if there is snow on the road.

Sweden: All vehicles must use M+S and 3PMSF winter tyres with a minimum tread depth of three millimetres from 1 December to 31 March in winter conditions.

Italy: It’s compulsory to carry chains in the car or fit winter tyres with M+S markings from 15 November to 15 April. The rule applies outside of urban areas, but it can also be requested within them by local authorities.

PIRELLI’S WINTER TYRES

Pirelli has developed a comprehensive range of winter and all season tyres to respond to all requirements and driving conditions. Two new Pirelli winter and all season products make their debut for this winter in 2024: the P Zero Winter 2 and Cinturato All Season SF3, both of which have obtained winning results in comparative tests conducted by specialist publications.

Those looking for maximum performance and safety in winter conditions can rely on the P Zero Winter 2, which took the top score (A) on the European tyre label for wet grip, with excellent braking on snow.

The latest all season tyre from Pirelli is the Cinturato All Season SF3, which offers year-round control as shown by the Performance Mark: a seal of excellence issued by certifying body TÜV SÜD.

The new Pirelli all season tyre features the 3PMSF marking, which guarantees safe driving even on icy and snowy surfaces. These continuous safety and performance improvements – even in the most extreme winter conditions – stems from the unstinting work of Pirelli’s engineers, who use the most advanced virtual modelling techniques as well as artificial intelligence and driving simulators.

FROM PROFESSIONAL RACES TO BICYCLE SHOPS

The World Tour team Lidl-Trek is bringing the P Zero Race TLR RS to the major professional races and grand tours all over the world and the FSC®-certified tyre is now available for sale from global retailers. The certification of its forest origin components will be highlighted by a logo engraved on the side of the tyre.

P Zero Race TLR RS is a tubeless-ready tyre and is the latest evolution of Pirelli’s road bicycle tyres. Specifically developed for competitions, its focus is perfect grip in any weather condition, excellent road handling when braking, accelerating and turning, and very low rolling resistance.

The thickness of the tread and the structure’s fabric layers have been modified to reduce the weight (-8%*) and contribute, together with the compound, to significantly reducing rolling resistance (-16%*).

A NEW STAGE IN CHOOSING AND CERTIFYING MATERIALS

For many years now, Pireli has been devoted to responsibly managing the natural rubber supply chain, by training and sharing best practices in the material’s countries of origin, in line with the principles and values contained in the Sustainable Natural Rubber Policy, launched by the company in 2017. This document is the result of discussions with the key stakeholders of the natural rubber value chain, including international NGOs, Pirelli’s main natural rubber suppliers, intermediaries and growers of the supply chain, automotive clients and multilateral international organisations. Moreover, Pirelli is one of the founding members of the Global Platform for Sustainable Natural Rubber – GPSNR, a multi-stakeholder platform established in 2018 to support the sustainable development of the natural rubber business globally, to benefit the entire value chain.

The first tyre in the world that contains FSC®-certified natural rubber dates back to 2021, the Pirelli P Zero for the BMW X5 Plug-in Hybrid. Then in 2023, the company presented the range of tyres containing FSC®-certified natural rubber for the Formula 1 single-seat racing cars. Today the P Zero Race TLR RS inaugurates the first range of FSC®-certified bicycle tyres.

P ZERO CORSA SYSTEM FOR THE FERRARI ENZO

For the Ferrari Enzo, the extreme sports car that dates from 2002, Pirelli has created a new P Zero Corsa System in 245/35 R19 size for the front and 345/35 R19 size for the rear. Like all tyres in the Collezione range, this product has an identical appearance to the original but is made with modern materials and technologies. Designed in the early 2000s to be the sportiest of the road range, it has a specific structure that gives it maximum stability at high speeds and when cornering, allowing it to also be used on the track. The two different tread designs, directional for the front and asymmetric for the rear, also reduce the phenomenon of aquaplaning. The new tyre was tested using Ferrari test drivers, who rediscovered the same sporty character of the time, now combined with greater safety and reliability thanks to the use of the most up-to-date compounds.

The P Zero Corsa System tyres from the Collezione range are also available, in 245/35 R18 size for the front and 335/30 R18 at the rear  for the Ferrari F50, described at the time as the road car closest to a Formula 1 racer that Maranello had ever built.

P ZERO FOR THE FERRARI F40

The ancestor of the F50 and the Enzo was the Ferrari F40, the first mass-produced car to use Pirelli P Zero as original equipment in 1987. Developed specifically for the car, this tyre brought in some important innovations: a rim size of 17 inches, unprecedented for a road car, different sizes on front and rear and technology dedicated to a car with a maximum speed of over 300kph. Now a version of the P Zero dedicated to the F40 is available in the Pirelli Collezione range in  245/40 R17 size for the front and 335/35 R17 at the rear. Among the main innovations of this version is the lettering on the side of the tyre which recalls the original script.

PIRELLI P ZERO: PERFORMANCE, INNOVATION AND SUSTAINABILITY

From the Ferrari F40 to the latest generation supercars, the P Zero range has been a constant. It tells a story of innovation and technology that is linked to the most prestigious and extreme cars of the last four decades and to motorsport, starting with Formula 1: an open-air technology transfer laboratory from track to road. Over time, the range has evolved according to the needs of the automotive market, which has become increasingly interested in performance, safety, and sustainability: now including electric mobility. Pirelli's Elect marking, denoting tyres made specifically for electrified cars, made its debut on a P Zero in 2019.

The family has recently been renewed with three new models presented at the 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed: the P Zero E, P Zero R and P Zero Trofeo RS. All of these tyres were developed with Pirelli's "Eco-Safety Design" approach: a methodology that uses innovative materials as well as tools that include virtualisation, derived from the company's experience in motorsport.

The new 296 takes over from the 488 Challenge Evo that was introduced in 2019, and Pirelli has once again developed a tailor-made family of racing tyres for the latest model, featuring new sizes for front and rear. The research and development process followed the same methodology as used by Pirelli for the FIA Formula One World Championship, with increasing reliance on virtualisation and simulation, in close collaboration with Ferrari’s engineers.

Two new tyre designs will be seen on next year’s 296 Challenge car, which was presented at the Ferrari Finali Mondiali at Mugello this weekend: a P Zero slick for dry conditions, as well as a grooved Cinturato for a wet or mixed surface. All of these new tyres have been designed to maximise grip, driveability, consistency, and working range throughout the wide variety of circuits and conditions that the Ferrari Challenge visits throughout the year all over the world.

The new Ferrari Challenge P Zero slick (in 280/680-19 size at the front and 300/720-19 size at the rear) is stiffer, with more grip and consistently faster lap times compared to its predecessor; thanks also to a wider front tyre that helps turn-in. The latest Cinturato evacuates five per cent more water and has a six per cent greater residual contact area than the tyre that came before it, with redesigned sipes to improve warm-up and wet traction.

All these tyres have been tailor-made to accommodate the notable evolutions that come with the latest Ferrari Challenge model, including a record-breaking 700 horsepower from the first six-cylinder engine ever to be used in the Challenge, as well as 870 kilograms of downforce generated at 250kph (18 per cent more than the previous model) and a Formula 1-derived braking system.

Pirelli’s ‘perfect fit’ philosophy describes how tyres are specifically made to enhance the particular characteristics of each car they are fitted to. This approach is particularly evident on ultra high performance cars, with Pirelli equipping around 50% of the prestige market globally.

Pirelli will additionally supply the new Ferrari 499P Modificata, based on the car that won the Le Mans 24 Hours this year. This is a limited-edition sports prototype for non-competitive use, inaugurating the new Sport Prototipi Clienti programme; similar to the existing F1 Clienti scheme. The new 499P Modificata also made its first appearance at Mugello this weekend, using bespoke 18-inch P Zero tyres specifically developed for the 870-horsepower hybrid prototype, which also features four-wheel drive.

Pirelli’s Head of Motorsport Mario Isola commented: “We’re extremely proud to continue the relationship that we’ve enjoyed with the Ferrari Challenge for more than 30 years, since we equipped the very first car – the 348 Challenge – with bespoke 17-inch tyres in 1992. Car and tyre technology has moved on immeasurably during that time, but both Pirelli and Ferrari have remained true to the philosophy of using motorsport as an open-air laboratory to validate technical solutions that eventually find their way onto the road, also when it comes to design and development.
