A New Chapter Of Top-Level Sports Racing For Pirelli
Pirelli opens its 2002 FIA GT racing season this weekend with new teams, new cars and new tyres.
Following a limited, but quite successful, participation in the 2001 FIA GT series with just a couple of teams in the NGT category, Pirelli is returning to full scale European circuit racing, competing in both the GT and NGT categories in 2002.
Winter testing has shown the new Pirelli racing tyres to be ultra competitive, this being confirmed by the recent double podium finish at Sebring, the opening round of the American Le Mans Series; consequently Pirelli has been able to dramatically increase the number of its racing customers in sports car racing.
In the GT category, the top class of racing in FIA GT, Pirelli is supplying tyres to three teams running Chrysler Vipers - Carsport/Racing Box, Belmondo and ART. Pirelli tyres are also mounted on a newly developed Porsche 996 GT2 of the RWS team.
Stiff competition to these cars will come from the Lister Storm and Ferrari 550 runners.
In the NGT category Pirelli is represented by the JMB Ferrari 360 team, who in fact won the category last year, and by the Porsche GT3RS teams of JVG Racing, Orlando, and RWS.
