At Imola Pirelli celebrates the MXGP title of the 2019 FIM Motocross World Champonship with Tim Gajser

Tim Gajser is proclaimed the new MXGP World Champion at the Grand Prix of Italy with three GPs to go; Jorge Prado continues to dominate the MX2 class

Over the weekend the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari at Imola hosted the fifteenth round of the 2019 FIM Motocross World Championship for the Grand Prix of Italy. The hardpacked soil was built on the Rivazza hill over part of the famous and historic layout and, combined with high summer temperatures, put a tough physical strain on the riders. Fortunately they could count on the excellent performance of the Pirelli SCORPION™ MX32™ Mid Soft, front and rear tyres.

A first race result of 5th was enough to allow Tim Gajser to became MXGP World Champion with three GPs to go. The Slovenian clinched the title that he had won in 2016 at his debut year in the premier class. Gajser, and his third crown won with Pirelli in the last five years, could count on a hefty advantage in the standings, and at Imola third place on the overall podium was more than sufficient to start the celebrations. There is a good performance also by Jeremy Seewer who finished second and occupies the same position in the Championship.

Jorge Prado was once again untouchable in MX2. The Spaniard won by dominating both races and could be able to toast his second consecutive MX2 title in Sweden next week. Thomas Kjer Olsen is the only rider who can still catch Prado and the Dane classified second. Calvin Vlaanderen rode well to finish in fifth place overall.

There is no break for riders and teams of the FIM Motocross World Championship. The Grand Prix of Sweden, the sixteenth round of the season, will occur next weekend at the Uddevalla circuit.
