ATKINSON THE TIP OF THE ICEBERG
IN SUBARU-PIRELLI PROGRESS

The Impreza's competitiveness improves considerably: the car wins six special stages.
The Australian overtaken in a last minute dash during the finale and finishes sixth.

Antalya (T), 15 October 2006 - The sixth place obtained by Chris Atkinson in the Subaru Impreza WRC06 on Pirelli P Zero Racing tyres does not accurately reflect the progress made by the Subaru-Pirelli duo after the Rally of Turkey, 13th round in the world championship.

Overtaken in a last minute dash during the finale, the Australian showed a high degree of competitiveness throughout the event, while Solberg, who was back on the leader board as a result of the SuperRally formula, finished 14th. The Norwegian had much to lament after having held second place overall for two thirds of the rally and having won six special stages.

Also worthy of note was Ercan Kazaz' 15th end-of-rally position: he was the highest placed Turkish driver at the wheel of a private Subaru Impreza WRC05 fitted with Pirelli P Zero Racings.

Mario Isola, Rally Manager of Pirelli Competizioni, commented once more on the notable progress made by the Subaru Impreza WRC06s on P Zero Racings. He said, "That progress is confirmed by Solberg's six fastest stage times and the Norwegian's and Atkinson's positions, which were always among the leaders. It is also true that the positions of the two drivers do not reflect that progress, but an accident can always happen in motor sport when racing at the kinds of speeds of drivers competing for victory. So the Subaru-Pirellis' performance in Turkey was encouraging in view of the final rounds of the 2006 world championship".
