Milan, 12 March 2001 - Courses of the first e- Pirelli Internet Campus, the initiative aimed at training and informing young people on the use and potential offered by the Internet for their professional future, started today. The initiative, with the patronage of the City of Milan, is promoted by Pirelli, that through the development of optical fibres and high-capacity transmission systems, contributes each day to the rapid diffusion of the Internet, with Class Editori, very advanced editorial group for the Internet-enabled economic and financial information and the technical partnership of Etnoteam, I.NET, Jobline.it, MyQube and Sun Microsystems.
e- Pirelli Internet Campus will consist of four weekly courses lasting 30 hours each, that will be held in a special 800mq tensile structure erected in Piazza Affari in Milan. The interactive courses are addressed to all young people aged between 20 and 25, in classes of 50 students per week. In order to facilitate those who do not yet have access to a computer, enrolment in the e- Pirelli Internet Campus, free of charge and handled by Jobline.it, was possible at the gazebos erected in Milan in the places, at the city Universities and at the Salone dello Studente & Lavoro. More than 1,200 students registered and among them, after personal interviews, the 200 participants were selected.
During four weeks, professors, key experts in the Net Economy, businesspeople who due their success to the Internet - like Roberto Galimberti (President of Etnoteam and I.NET) - and famous sportsmen and showmen will hold lessons about the Internet, its functioning and the changements it has brought in way of working and living. Among others, Ronaldo and Recoba (strikers of FC Inter Milan), Giovanni Soldini(sailorman winner of the last Around Alone), Diana Bianchedi(twice foil gold medallist at Olympic games), Alessandro Cecchi Paone (journalist and scientific divulger), Paolo Bonolis and Enrico Bertolino(showmen) are expected.
Each day will host a " theoric" session as well as a " pratical" session: thanks to the most advanced technologies, students will immediately see the Net revolution. The course, whose teaching responsibility is entrusted to Paolo Costa from Etnoteam, will discuss such topics as the history of the Internet, how do search engines work, the news and how to communicate on-line, the e-commerce and how services evolved. Experts from Class Editori will teach about e-finance, e-commerce, trading on-line and the new web-journalist profession.
Entrepreneurs Barbara Poggiali (General Manager of e.Biscom), Carlo Pallavicino (www.calciomercato.com), Ippolito Fassati (www.moto.it) and Riccardo Donadon (E-TREE) will discuss their success stories. During the last lesson of each course, the e-Pirelli Project will be discussed: through this project, launched in March 2000, Pirelli is in turn becoming an e-company, that uses the speed and flexibility of the Network to both manage internal processes and develop innovative businesses. Teachers from Etnoteam and MyQube will present all the opportunities offered by the Net, Sun Microsystems will provide technologies and I.NET the connectivity.
At the end of the course a certificate will be issued, and the most deserving students will have the opportunity for professional interviews with the partner companies of the project.
