e-Pirelli Internet Campus

STARTING FEBRUARY 5TH IT'S POSSIBLE TO ENROLL IN e-PIRELLI INTERNET CAMPUS, THE TRAINING INITIATIVE THAT BRINGS STUDENTS ON THE NET

Starting February 5th, Pirelli and Class Editori, with the patronage of the City of Milan and in technical partnership with Etnoteam, Sun Microsystems, I.NET and Jobline.it, launch the free of charge courses aimed at starting 20 to 25-years-old people in Internet trade

Milan, 2 February 2001 - Pirelli, that through the development of optical fibres and high-capacity transmission systems, contributes each day to the rapid diffusion of the Internet, presents with Class Editori, very advanced editorial group for the Internet-enabled economic and financial information, e-Pirelli Internet Campus: the training initiative will seek to contribute meaningfully to the diffusion of the Web culture by training and informing young people on the use and potential offered by the Internet for their professional future.

e-Pirelli Internet Campus will consist of four weekly courses lasting 30 hours each, that will be held in a special 800mq tensile structure erected in Piazza Affari. The courses, totally free of charge, are addressed to all young people aged between 20 and 25, with the purpose of facilitating those who do not yet have access to a computer. The lessons, with mandatory attendance, will be interactive, and the students with have the most advanced technologies available to better understand the revolution triggered by the Internet.

During the weeks starting 12, 19 and 26 March and 2 April, professors from Polytechnic of Milan Roberto Galimberti e Roberto Polillo, key experts in the Net Economy and businesspeople who due their success to the Internet, will discuss such topics as the history of the Internet, the functioning of the network, the changes it has brought in how we communicate and procure information, and how to dialogue on the Web and make e-commerce: among the entrepreneurs Carlo Pallavicino (www.calciomercato.com), Ippolito Fassati (www.moto.it), Riccardo Donadon (E-TREE) are expected, as well as other success case histories.

Lessons held by famous sportsmen and showmen will be also scheduled: among the teachers Ronaldo, Giovanni Soldini (sailorman winner of the last Around Alone), Diana Bianchedi (foil gold medallist at Sydney Olympic games), Alessandro Cecchi Paone (journalist and scientific divulger), Paolo Bonolis and Enrico Bertolino (showmen) are expected.

Pirelli decided to promote e-Pirelli Internet Campus in the e-Pirelli project, launched in March 2000 to transform the firm into an e-company. Pirelli uses the speed and flexibility of the Web to manage internal processes, to develop innovative businesses and to seize all the opportunities offered by the Net Economy.

Pirelli will handle organization, logistics and coordination of e-Pirelli Internet Campus courses, whose teaching responsibility is entrusted to Paolo Costa from Etnoteam. Experts from Class Editori will teach about e-finance, e-commerce, trading on-line and the new web-journalist profession. Teachers from Etnoteam will present all the opportunities offered by the Net, Sun Microsystems will provide technologies, I.Net the connectivity and Jobline.it will select the participants.

In order to enrol in the e-Pirelli Internet Campus it's necessary to be 20 to 25 years old, complete the selection test available from 5 to 10 February at the gazebos erected in Piazza Cadorna and Piazza San Babila or in the mobile units at Universit Statale, Bocconi and Cattolica on 5 and 6 February; at Politecnico, Universit della Bicocca and IULM on 7 and 8 February; in Corso Vercelli, Porta Ticinese and Piazza Lima on 9 and 10 February. From 15 to 17 February enrolment will also be possible in the stand of e-Pirelli Internet Campus at the 22nd Salone dello Studente & Lavoro Giovani pavilions 8 and 26 Milan Fairgrounds, with entrance free of charge through Porta Metropolitana.

All the tests will be evaluated by experts who will also conduct personal interviews to select the 200 participants. At the end of the course a certificate will be issued, and the most deserving students will have the opportunity for professional interviews with the partner companies of the project.
