FIA GT 2003 Championship: final round in Italy on the circuit of Monza

The show that has raised the passion for sportscar racing in the course of 2003 will close its season on October 18th and 19th on one of the most important and historic circuits in the world: the Autodromo of Monza. It is the temple of speed, the only circuit where it is possible that the drivers of the GT Championship will finish the distance of 500 km before the maximum term of 3 hours.

The stunning victory in Portugal of team JMB Racing Pirelli, in both the categories, has brought back confidence and hope for success in the Drivers Championship for N-GT. Fabrizio De Simone, in fact, needs the maximum 10 points in order to catch up the leaders Ortelli and Lieb of the team Freisinger Motorsport Porsche, the leaders in the first part of the Championship. In effect, in the last race the Ferrari 360 Modena - Pirelli of team JMB obtained a crushing result from all the points of view: the best time in the free practices, the pole position in the qualifying, the best time obtained in the race with 1 second of margin on the adversaries and the final victory.
In the GT class, the perfect debut of the new Ferrari 575 GTC Pirelli has given a strong sign of confidence to the drivers after many disappointments because of the insufficient reliability of the old Ferrari 550: as observed also by the press, seeing the Portugal's results, 2004 will be the year of the reconquest for the Ferrari/Pirelli team.

Also the Chrysler Viper - Pirelli of the team Force One of Alliot and Hezemans has demonstrated a good level of performance, even if this car has probably already arrived at the limit of its development possibilities. The pole position of Hezemans in Portugal is the sign that also at Monza this Pirelli shod car will be a force to be reckoned with.

Concerning the other classifications of the Championship, the games were concluded at Estoril: the Drivers GT class has been mathematically won by Biagi and Bobbi in Ferrari 550 of the team BMS Scuderia Italia, the absolute winning team of this season GT 2003. Regarding the N-GT Team classification , the winner of 2003 is Freisinger Motorsport with the Porsche 996 GT3-RS.

The appointment at the Autodromo of Monza will represent the final statement of the 2003 season. It will assign the Drivers N-GT Championship and it will be the "key" in order to read the form of the next FIA GT 2004 Championship.
