FIA GT 2003 Championship, round four: fourth consecutive podium for Pirelli Ferrari
Brno, May 25th, 2003 - The teams and drivers returned to the
Czech track of Brno, 5.4 km long, for round four of the 2003
season.
As in the first races of the Championship in the GT category, the result of this race confirmed the dominance, with a fourth consecutive victory for Biagi and Bobbi, of team BMS Scuderia Italia: other teams are finding difficulty to achieve these performances and reliability. Yet again, the Ferrari 550 Maranello team JMB suffered mechanical problems and was not able to finish the race.
In the N-GT category the Porsche 996 GTS-R of Ortelli and Lieb took their first victory of the season, but the situation in the championship classification confirms the consistent performance of the Pirelli - Ferrari 360 of Team JMB. The fourth consecutive podium, with one victory, two second and a third places, for the Pirelli Ferrari 360 Modena JMB of Bertolini and De Simone (second position here at Brno) enables them to maintain their first position in the championship classification.
The circuit was very demanding for the tyres because of the high grip of the asphalt combined with hot surface temperatures (more than 40C in these days) and the particular design of track. After the excellent results obtained by the new compounds of Pirelli PZero tyres during the last race in Pergusa, the teams continued to exploit the new performances at Brno, with better grip and enhanced durability.
