FIA GT 2003 Championship: third round at Pergusa

Milan, May 5th, 2003 - Saturday 10th April and Sunday 11th, the third race of the 2003 FIA GT Championship will take place at its southernmost point, in Italy at the Pergusa Circuit (Sicily).
Last year the race was in September and a lot of spectators flocked to the 4,950 km circuit, which is almost an oval with added chicanes, set in the natural basin formed by an extinct volcano; the excellent weather provided a perfect backdrop for the race.

After the first two rounds of 2003, BMS Scuderia Italia is leading the championship in the GT category with the Italian team's Ferrari 550 Maranello cars finishing in first and second places in both Barcelona and Magny-Cours. In the N-GT category, Ferrari have also dominated this first part of the season, with the Ferrari 360 Modena cars run by JMB Racing fitted with Pirelli tyres, and Team Maranello UK. However, the Chrysler Viper - Pirelli, Lister Storm and Porsche cars dominated the race last year when the Championship last visited the Sicilian track, so this next round should be extremely interesting.

The Pergusa Circuit is particularly challenging for tyres because of the likely very high temperatures of the asphalt; consistency of pace in the long race will be the key to a successful result. Pirelli will be present at the Pergusa Circuit to provide its GT and N-GT teams with PZero racing tyres, necessarily supplied with the some of the harder compounds with which to combat the aggressive conditions.

Next race: Brno circuit, Czech Republic, May 24 - 25
