FIA GT 2004: fifth race on the Brno Circuit

The fifth round of the FIA GT Championship will take place on May 24th - 25th, with the 600 horsepower Grand Touring cars sure to provide a breathtaking show for spectators. The Brno Circuit has beena shrine to motorsport since 1930, when the first race took place on the old 30 km track that was made up of ordinary public roads. The circuit was shortened over the years, and a new permanent facility opened in 1987. After the last GT race in Hockenheim, which was so nearly won by the Pirelli-equipped Ferrari 575 of Peter and Babini, BMS Scuderia Italia's Ferrari 550 Maranello leads the championship with 65 points. In second place is the GPC Squadra Corse team with 21 points, whose Ferrari 575 has a four-point advantage over the next crew. Following the Hockenheim race, Fabio Babini commented: "It's a shame that we just missed out on victory, but a large part of our ability to overhaul the opposition was down to the efficiency of the new Pirelli PZero tyres. They demonstrated excellent consistency and performance, even in the hot asphalt conditions." The Porsche squad leads the N-GT category, even though GPC' s Pirelli-quipped Ferrari 360 dominated the German cars for much of the race in Hockenheim. The GPC team is currently third in the series standings.
