Francesco Gori nominated President of the European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturers Association (ETRMA)

The new Association, the formation of which was announced today in Brussels, will replace the former rubber industries relations office "BLIC".

Milan, May 11th, 2006 Francesco Gori, General Manager Tyre Sector, Pirelli&C SpA, was nominated President of the European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturers Association (ETRMA) following the first Board meeting today in Brussels.

The new non-profit association, the formation of which was announced today in Brussels, will replace the former rubber industries trade association (Bureau de Liaison des Industries du Caoutchouc BLIC) founded in 1959. The new association is designed to represent the tyre and general rubber goods industry with the European Union Institutions and other international organizations.

In particular the new association intends to contribute to and participate in the development of environmental, health and safety legislations impacting the tyre and general rubber goods industry, while ensuring the competitiveness of this industry worldwide. The association will participate all the initiatives in favour of road safety and environmental protection in coordination with the European public authorities.

The tyre and general rubber industry is composed of 4.100 companies in Europe with 360.000 employees and a total turnover exceeding 42 billion euro.
