In the Grand Prix of Belgium Pirelli mathematically confirms world championships in both classes bringing its all-time haul to 72 titles in FIM Motocross World Championship
Tim Gajser wins again in MXGP and places one hand on his third world title. A double victory in the MX2 class by Jorge Prado increases his lead in the Championship
The world famous Lommel circuit hosted the Grand Prix of Belgium, the fourteenth round of the 2019 FIM Motocross World Championship. It was a fantastic weekend for Pirelli who mathematically confirmed the 2019 MXGP and MX2 world titles; bringing its all-time haul to 72 world titles in motocross since 1980. The product development introduced during the season for the SCORPION™ MX32™- for hard pack soil - and SCORPION™ MX SOFT - for soft sandy soil - combined with the high-performing mousses have made it possible to reach this prestigious milestone with four races to go before the end of the season. The tyres again showed their full potential and performance even on the sandy Belgian circuit, which is always a difficult physical and technical drain for the riders.
Tim Gajser won the MXGP class race for the first time at Lommel. The Slovenian is far adrift at the top of the championship and will have the chance to win the title in the next Grand Prix at Imola. There was a great second place for Romain Febvre, who won the first heat. Jeremy Seewer, in fourth, is still in second in the standings. Jeremy Van Horebeek, riding his private Honda, repeated his fifth place captured the previous weekend at Loket in the Czech Republic.
Jorge Prado dominated both MX2 races and easily pulled away from his rivals. The Spaniard further increased his advantage in the standings. Calvin Vlaanderen was very fast in the second moto and was runner-up overall. There were good placements also for Tom Vialle, in fourth overall and back to third spot in the championship, and Adam Sterry with fifth.
Pirelli confirmed the excellent performance of its product by winning the seventh round of the EMX250 European Championship thanks to the amazing Roan Van De Moosdijk. The Dutchman ruled both heats and beat Kevin Horgmo to the top step of the podium. The Italian brand also won the fifth round of the EMX125 European Championship with Simon Laengenfelder.
In two weeks time the riders will tackle the Grand Prix of Italy which will be hosted for the second year in a row by the spectacular track built inside the "Enzo e Dino Ferrari" racetrack in Imola.
