Lord Marshall to become Chairman of Pirelli Uk Companies on 1st September 2003

Milan, 21 August 2003 - Pirelli SpA is pleased to announce that Lord Marshall of Knightsbridge has been appointed non-executive Chairman of the Boards of Pirelli UK plc, Pirelli General plc and Pirelli UK Tyres Ltd with effect from 1st September 2003.

Lord Colin Marshall is currently Chairman of British Airways Plc. He is a Member of the Board of HSBC Holdings plc, Chairman of the International Advisory Board of the Confederation of British Industry and Chairman of Britain in Europe. He was President of the CBI from 1996 to 1998 and was Chairman of the Royal Institute of International Affairs (Chatham House) from 1999 to July 2003.

Pirelli is a world leading company in each of the three manufacturing areas in which it operates, namely, tyres, energy cables and systems and telecom cables and systems. Pirelli Group worldwide turnover in 2002 was 6.3 billion Euros.

In the United Kingdom, Pirelli's UK companies carry on the Group's three main industrial activities at 8 factories located in England and Wales. Pirelli UK Tyres Ltd is the main UK tyre company. Pirelli General plc is the main UK energy and telecom cables and systems company. Pirelli UK plc is the UK holding company. Pirelli UK turnover in 2002 was 853 million.
