Maserati Trofeo 1st Race

Barcelona, April 6, 2003 - The first race of the Maserati Trofeo 2003 took place on the 4,7 km of the Barcelona (Montmel) circuit, with a great satisfaction for Maserati, Pirelli and the teams and drivers.

The Maserati Trofeo, after an exciting qualifying session with the first six drivers separated by less than a second (first classified were Mountain/Wilson), ran with ideal track conditions.

The Swiss driver, Vincenzo Tirella, won this first race after twenty one hard laps: probably, the fact that he didn't share the drive (but still had to stop for the obligatory 1'30 in the pits) worked in his favour during the race. In any case, the victory was entirely merited in a very hard fought, during which cars and tyres were pushed to the limit .

Pirelli provided all the cars with the latest versions of the PZero tyres for dry asphalt, specifically developed for the Maserati Trofeo in a winter-long testing period.

Podium:
