Motorrad: Angel GT best sport touring tyre

Pirelli’s new Angel GT motorcycle tyre, first introduced in April, has been voted best sport touring tyre by the respected German magazine Motorrad. The magazine compared the Angel GT with Metzeler Roadtec Z/8 Interact M/O, Bridgestone T30, Continental Road Attack 2, Dunlop Roadsmart 2 and Michelin Pilot Road 3. The tyres were fitted to six Suzuki Bandit 1250 S motorcycles with a size 120/70 ZR17 on the front and 180/55 ZR17 on the rear. Motorrad editoral staff considered various assessment criteria such as ease of handling, steering precision, cornering stability, cornering stability whilst racing, grip at lean angle, grip during acceleration, line holding during acceleration, limit range characteristics and braking stability during full braking with ABS. The ranking, drawn up at the end of the comparison test, sees Angel GT in first place, Metzeler Roadtec Z8 Interact tying for second with Bridgestone T30 and the other contenders filling fourth place. The independent Motorrad TestCenter has already certified the new Angel GT as providing the best mileage. The jewel in the crown of the Pirelli Sport Touring range, it is the natural successor to the Angel ST, a tyre that has won several comparison tests organised by distinguished international motorcycle magazines and is the holder of seven world duration records. Compared to its predecessor, Angel GT has increased mileage by 30%, reduced braking distances by around one metre (at a speed of 75 kph), also improving grip and handling in the wet and, even more importantly, managing to maintain these characteristics at a high level over time, the so-called “Performance Mileage” formula.
