Normal production Pirelli Truck Tyres triumph in the 2005 Rally of the Pharaohs

Milan, 6 October 2005 - After their excellent performance at the beginning of the year in the legendary Paris-Dakar and their magnificent victory last July in the Baja Aragon in Spain, Pirelli truck tyres once again confirmed their notable qualities last weekend by winning the Rally of the Pharaohs, one of the most demanding desert rally-raids in the international calendar. A Team Overlock's Mercedes-Benz Unimog U500 driven by Panseri-Piana-Mor won the 2005 Egyptian marathon, preceding one of the Iveco 140E 24s that did so well in the Paris-Dakar and the Spanish event this year, fitted with Pirelli tyres. On this occasion, the Italian truck entered by Motorsport Italia was driven by Rickler-Briani-Diamante and battled with a trio of vehicles and then the winner throughout the entire rally. As mentioned, the Pirelli tyres used by the two vehicles that triumphed among the pyramids were of normal production in size 14.00R20. This extraordinary 1-2 by standard Pirelli truck tyres is all the more impressive after the Iveco had won an event with a route comprising fast special stages like the Baja Aragon. In Egypt, the Milan manufacturer's tyres were even able to make the difference in a rally-raid marathon like the 2005 Rally of the Pharaohs, with its extremely long distance, timed sectors. Performance and robustness, reliability and torque in all conditions are constant qualities of Pirelli truck tyres for road-going vehicles and have been further spotlighted by this sensational result, which confirms the high quality of the tyres produced by Pirelli. Tyres that also proved their ability to win last week in the World Rally Championship with the brilliant victory of the Peugeot 307 CC fitted with Pirelli P Zero tyres, driven by Finland's Marcus Gronholm in the Rally of Japan.
