P Zero Color Edition takes to the track with Ferrari

One colour for every country: Ferrari Challenge safety car will showcase different Pirelli tyres at each round from SPA onwards

Pirelli will exclusively bring a splash of colour to the race track on the Ferrari Challenge. The championship’s safety car will use the P Zero Color Edition, showcasing different colours for each round. To start off with, yellow was chosen for the Spa-Francorchamps round in Belgium: the central colour of the Belgian flag.

The shades selected for the Pirelli P Zero tyres fitted to the Ferrari 488 GTB safety car on some of the world’s most legendary tracks reflect not only local colours, but also tradition. It will be red for Misano in Italy, the heartland of motorsport, blue for Brno in the Czech Republic (as seen on the national flag) while in Barcelona the colour will be gold, again reflecting national colours. For the world finals in Monza from November 1-4 the colours are yet to be chosen. Pirelli’s social media followers will instead be able to select the colour for the all-important closing round of the championship at the ‘temple of speed’

The Color Edition is a Pirelli innovation with no equal, consisting of P Zero tyres that subvert the idea that tyres have to be by nature round and black. It’s an option reserved for 19-inch sizes and higher; for drivers of premium and prestige vehicles, where personalisation is a key priority. There are seven standard colours but hundreds more bespoke shades available, via a dedicated website. But it’s not only about the colours themselves: Pirelli’s research and development division has also identified new technologies that allow the colours to be applied using cutting edge materials that do not alter the performance characteristics of the tyre. There is also a protective barrier to keep the colours vivid and reduce the risk of fading with time and wear.
