Pirelli and Subaru in Mexico to repeat their 2005 Triumph

Milan, 23 February 2006 - Last year, Pirelli scored a great victory in Mexico as a result of the extraordinary performance of Petter Solberg and his Subaru Impreza on K tread compound P Zeros. They literally left all their opponents standing as Pirelli imposed a crushing defeat on the opposition, with P Zeros fitted cars taking the first three places: Solberg won, Grnholm came second and Martin third.

Bolstered by that positive experience, Pirelli will offer its crews competing in the 2006 Rally of Mexico, third round in the this season's world championship, the well tried and tested K2 and K4 variants of its P Zero, together with the K2-Evo, a tyre developed to guarantee non-stop high performance on the repeated special stages in clean road conditions, on dry surfaces and in high temperatures.

Because of the optimum results achieved during recent test sessions in Sardinia, the Pirelli Competizioni technicians will be taking on the loose surfaces of Mexico certain of being able to offer Subaru tyres with even higher degrees of performance and robustness than its winning 2005 products. And that despite the fact that the Imprezas will be competing over a longer route and on more special stages than a year ago.

As Paul Hembery, Director of Pirelli Competizioni, observed, "In Mexico, our tyres will have to compete over no fewer that 17 special stages and a route totalling more than 1,000 kilometres in very difficult conditions throughout, as far as the resistance of the tread and structure of the P Zero is concerned. For that reason, we have decided to offer tried and tested technical solutions, together with a new tread compound that revealed itself to be extremely effective during testing in Italy. I believe that, with this Pirelli 'package', the Subarus driven by Solberg and Atkinson will have all they need to aim for a top result that only bad luck denied them in Monte Carlo and Sweden".

As well as the works Subaru Impreza WRC, Pirelli will supply its tyres to numerous leading teams aiming for success in Group N. Pirelli P Zero tyres will be fitted to the Subaru Impreza STi driven by Arai, Kuzaj and Al-Attiyah as well as the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX of the Top Run team, entered for Argentineans Ligato, Pozzo and Beltran.
