Pirelli awarded a 21mln euro contract within the Turbigo-Rho interconnection

• PIRELLI TO PROVIDE A HIGH-VOLTAGE CABLE TO DEVELOP THE TRANSMISSION POWER NETWORK WITHIN THE NEW 380 kV "TURBIGO-RHO" INTERCONNECTION
• THE PROJECT - WORTH 21 MLN EUROS FOR PIRELLI - CONTRIBUTES TO THE STRENGTHENING OF THE ITALIAN TRANSMISSION NETWORK

  Milan - 9 March 2005 - Pirelli Energy Cables and Systems has been awarded a contract to provide a high-voltage cable within the project related to the new 380 kV link between Turbigo and Rho (Milan hinterland), developed by Terna (the listed Company owning more than 90% of the Italian high and ultra high-voltage power transmission network). Such new interconnection project is part of the national transmission network development plan set up by GRTN (Gestore della Rete di Trasmissione Nazionale - Italian Independent System Operator) and approved by the Industry Ministry last year.
  
  The project foresees the realization of a mixed ultra high-voltage link, partly realized through cables (8 km) partly through overhead power line (20 km); two transition stations, with a 3,000 square meters surface each in the cities of Pogliano Milanese and Rho, will allow the switch from overhead line to landed cable and vice-versa.
  
  Pirelli will provide about 48 km of XLPE-insulated cables, to be produced in Pirelli's factory in Gron (France), the excellence centre for high and ultra-high voltage cables, while accessories (joints and terminals) will be realized in the Italian plant of Livorno.
  
  It is forecasted that works to realize the link will be completed by April 2006.
