Pirelli challenges for the lead in Cyprus
The Pirelli-equipped Subaru of Petter Solberg is just 12 seconds of the lead of the all-gravel Rally Cyprus, round six of the World Rally Championship. The first three stages, run in exceptionally hot and rough conditions, have seen mechanical problems for many top competitors. Citroen's Sebastien Loeb leads ahead of Solberg, while the Pirelli equipped Mitsubishi of Harri Rovanpera is fifth. The Peugeot-Pirelli of Marcus Gronholm retired on SS1 with engine problems, while the Subaru-Pirelli of Chris Atkinson lost drive on SS3. Pirelli's drivers have all used the tried-and-trusted XR tyres today, with three stages remaining of leg one and 18 stages in total before the finish on Sunday.
