Pirelli Competizioni at the 80th 24 Heures du Le Mans

Milan, June 5, 2003 - The 24 Heures du Le Mans has been for decades a mythical race in the motor sport world and it will renew its fame on June 14th and 15th .

After extensive testing carried out during springtime, teams and drivers are ready to race on this challenging track that, besides its length and design, has the added difficulty of its duration. For twenty four consecutive hours, in fact, driver's concentration and the durability of tyres and mechanical components will be tested to the extreme limits.

The circuit, 13,6 km long, is covered by an asphalt surface characterised by low grip: for the 24 hours of the race this is an important aspect because it permits a low wear of the tyres. On the other hand, always because of the long duration of the race, tyre punctures caused by debris and damaged bodywork parts on the "dirty" side of the track is a problem not to be underestimated.

Pirelli Competizioni will provide its teams with new tyres tested at the recent Le Mans test weekend, to ensure good adherence and the best consistency of performance, both in the warmth of the daytime and the often low temperatures during the night.
