Pirelli dominate Internazionali d’Italia
Scorpion MX rules Elite, MX1 and MX2 categories with Frossard, Cairoli and Lupino It has been a fantastic start to the motocross season for Pirelli tyres with a dominant haul across all three categories of the Internazionali d’Italia (Italian Motocross Championship) and a monopoly on the Elite and MX1 podiums. The first crown went to Frenchman Steven Frossard steering his works Yamaha with MidHard 554 front and MidSoft 32 rear who maintained a 100% record and won for the fourth time ahead of Antonio Cairoli (riding the factory KTM with MidSoft 32 for front and rear as used by the rest of the Pirelli line-up). The roles were reversed in the MX1 category where the duo scored identical points but Cairoli was able to classify first thanks to his moto victory in the fourth and final round. After suffering a problem with his right thumb ligament in the days before the meeting, David Philippaerts could not complete the motos but still finished second and third in the respective divisions. In MX2 the chequered flag belonged to Russian Aleksandr Tonkov but the championship was celebrated by works Husqvarna (and Scorpion MX) rider Alex Lupino for what was his first major International championship.
