Pirelli hits triple in Miami!
Miami, Sept. 28, 2003 - On Friday night the local Florida
Marlins scored four runs to advance to the National League
Championship Playoffs. On Saturday night Pirelli hit a triple as
Pirelli-shod teams mounted the podium in all three classes of the
American Le Mans Series (ALMS) that they participate in.
For the fifth time in the last six races, the Atlanta-based Essex Racing team drove their Lola B2K/40/Nissan to an ALMS podium finishing in third place at the Grand Prix Americas through the hot, humid and damp streets of Miami. Team regular Jason Workman was joined by Scott Bradley of San Jose.
The Olive Garden Ferrari of Italians Emanuele Naspetti and Mimmo Schiattarella claimed a bit of ALMS history by finishing third behind the two ProDrive Ferraris to make it an all-Ferrari podium for the first time. The Bash in the Streets claimed many racers, including Corvettes Johnny OConnell who hit the walls of Miami with an hour to go. But by finishing fourth he and team mate Ron Fellows won the 2003 GTS Drivers Championship (the second straight year for Fellows).
In the GT class, PK Sports Robin Liddell from Scotland had his best finish of the season placing third in his #60 Pirelli-shod Porsche. Liddell and ex-F1 driver Alex Caffi from Monaco had their second straight good result since Caffi joined the team at Laguna Seca.
The ninth and final round of the ALMS is scheduled for Saturday, October 18, at the Petit Le Mans in Atlanta at 11:30 a.m. Speed Channel will televise the 1000-mile or 10-hour race beginning at 11 a.m. (EDT); Eurosport will provide same-day coverage in Europe.
