Pirelli P7 Classic: Hat-trick of European titles on Elba
Ex-Formula 1 driver Eric Comas and co-driver Yannick Roche won the rally and with it the European title in the top Category 4 in their Lancia Stratos.
Luigi ‘Lucky’ Battistolli in a Lancia Delta Integrale 16V with Fabrizia Pons alongside enjoyed a fantastic duel with Comas and finished just four and a half seconds behind in second. Lucio Da Zanche (Porsche 911) made it a podium sweep for the Pirelli P7 Classic.
With this result ‘Lucky’ is not only guaranteed the European title in Category 3 but also, with one rally still to go, the corresponding Italian Championship title and the overall national crown. To complete the success for cars equipped by Pirelli, the Austrian Karl Wagner (Porsche 911) with his result on Elba has won the European title in Category 2. Quotes Terenzio Testoni, Pirelli rally activity manager: “The anticipated conquest of so many titles crowns an extraordinary season in this special discipline full of sporting and technical significance. Since Pirelli launched the P7 Classic, the classic and historic sectors have been transformed thanks to an excellent product that is preferred by more and more drivers because it combines maximum performance with great reliability. Our congratulations and thanks go to Comas, Lucky and Wagner who with their great talents have proven the qualities of the Pirelli P7 Classic with important victories.”
