Pirelli PS22 Truck Tyres Dominate the Baja Aragon 2005 with Iveco

Milan, 29 July 2005- Pirelli PS22 tyres swept the board in the Baja Aragon, round of the FIA Rally-Raid World Cup, at  the end of July with two Iveco Eurocargo 140E24 WS trucks of Team Motorsport Italia crewed by local drivers Selga-Torra and Roque-Asurmendi-Diamante, taking first and second places respectively in the truck category of the event, preceding the third placed Mercedes-Benz 1844 AK on Pirelli, driven by Spains Oliveras-Campa/Capsada. This major success comes six months after Markku Alens outstanding seventh place in the 2005 Paris-Dakar driving a Pirelli PS22-shod Iveco Eurocargo and Miki Biasions great performance in a similar vehicle on Pirelli until a simple technical problem stopped him from finishing the race, and the second place in Turkeys Rally of the Orient, last June. As was the case with the Paris-Dakar, the Pirelli PS22s fitted to the Iveco trucks that monopolised the first two places   in the Baja Aragon were normal production tyres and were not specially conceived and developed for racing. A fact that further underlines the notable qualities of resistance and traction of the Pirelli tyres. The more or less total domination of the trucks on the Italian tyres also augurs well for the next event in which the Motorsport Italia Iveco Eurocargos will compete, the Rally of the Pharaohs in Egypt next September. Said Marco Cipparrone, head of Pirellis Truck Product Business Unit, The performance and robustness demonstrated by the PS22s after four rallies permits Pirelli to play a reference role in the category and are proof of the high qualitative level of our tyres, which are in our normal price list. Baja Aragon FIA Rally-Raid World Cup, confirmed results: 1 Selga-Torra (Iveco Eurocargo) in 10h0406; 2 Roque-Asurmendi-Diamante (Iveco Eurocargo) a 710 3 Oliveras-Campa/Capsada (Mercedes-Benz 1844 AK) a 3725 4 Szobi-Jobbagi/Eder (Man 18480) a 1h5029.
