Pirelli Repeats in P2 Class at Portland

Fields & Robin Liddell Lead Intersport Team to Third Victory of Season PORTLAND, Oregon, July 25, 2004 - Except for an amazing battle at the front of the pack with the Champion Audi and Dyson prototypes, the Grand Prix of Portland (Round #5 of the American Le Mans Series) played out much like the previous four ALMS races with the Corvettes dominating in GTS and the Porsches in GT. Fresh from their victory in the Infineon Grand Prix of Sonoma last week, Jon and Clint Field drove their Intersport Racing Lola B2K/Judd to a commanding P2-class win at Portland today. The Fields were joined by Scot Robin Liddell for the third time this season, all three races resulting in a victory for the Intersport team. Liddell has also had the fastest lap in all three races. Earlier this year, Clint Field finished third in class at the 12 Hours of Sebring won by the Pirelli-shod Miracle Motorsports team, giving Pirelli four victories in five rounds this season. Field also was the youngest driver ever to win Le Mans, leading the Intersport team to victory in P2 class this past June, three days before his 21st birthday. Terry Borcheller and Johnny Mowlem drove a strong race in the ACEMCO Saleen S7R, sitting in second place with thirty minutes to go before a differential problem slowed the car to a third behind the dominant factory Corvettes. ACEMCO Motorsports now has a substantial lead for the coveted IMSA Cup presented to the top independent team in GTS. Field & Liddell will have only moments to savor their victory as the Intersport crew will begin preparations for the sixth round of the ALMS calendar set for Sunday, August 7, at Toronto's Mosport circuit.
