Pirelli Returns To Winning Territory

After the asphalt of Germany, Pirelli returns to gravel for round 12 of the World Championship: Rally Great Britain . This is one of Pirelli's most successful events, the Pirelli-equipped Subaru of Petter Solberg having won the rally for the last three years, contributing to a total of seven Pirelli wins in the last 10 years! Great Britain is also one of the most challenging events of the year, containing very high speeds and inconsistent levels of grip, with frequent surface changes. The character of the rally was somewhat altered last year with a move to September, meaning that drivers, cars and tyres have to be ready to cope with an extremely wide range of weather conditions - from bright sunshine to rain. Pirelli has therefore made available as wide a range of tyres as possible, so that the three partner teams - Subaru, Peugeot and Mitsubishi - have the maximum opportunity to make the most appropriate choice. The recommended base tyre for Britain is the K, and teams can also nominate either the KP as an alternative dry base tyre, or the KM to be used in the event of wet conditions. As always, the P Zero range is equipped with Pirelli's EMI anti-deflation system. FOR GRAVEL STAGES IN NORMAL CONDITIONS K (Size: 205/65 -15) Steps: 2, 4 and 6 (with evolution) Description: The K will be the base tyre in Britain , for predominantly dry and abrasive conditions. It is available in a variety of compounds to cope with a wide range of temperatures and weather conditions, and can be hand-cut to disperse water or loose gravel more effectively. FOR GRAVEL STAGES IN DRY TO WET CONDITIONS KP (Size: 205/65 -15) Steps: 2, 4 and 6 (with evolution) Description: Some teams may choose as their base tyre the KP. This tyre works at its best in mixed conditions, on stages which contain patches of damp, loose gravel or mud. FOR GRAVEL STAGES IN WET CONDITIONS KM (Size: 205/65 -15) Steps: 4 and 6 (with evolution) Description: The KM is an alternative choice to the K or KP, and is particularly effective if conditions are especially wet or muddy. NB. The higher the step number, the softer the tyre compound. THE PRODUCTION CAR WORLD RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP Britain is the sixth round of the Production Car World Rally Championship, for Group N cars. The PCWRC competitors supplied by Pirelli will have at their disposal a range of specially re-inforced K tyres (the championship rules do not allow anti-deflation mousse). In case of wet weather, the Group N crews will use a Pirelli P Zero KM tyre.
