Pirelli rules the Motocross Grand Prix of Latvia at Kegums

Tim Gajser wins again in the MXGP class and consolidates his lead in the Championship. Jorge Prado is also triumphant and retains the Red Plate in MX2

The Kegums’ 'Zelta Zirgs' circuit hosted the Grand Prix of Latvia for the ninth round of the 2019 FIM Motocross World Championship. The SCORPION™ MX32™ Mid Soft front and the SCORPION™ MX Soft rear tyres were used by all Pirelli riders to tackle the fast and tricky Latvian terrain. The exceptional product made victory possible in each class and despite some injuries that put several protagonists out of action.

A fourth consecutive win in the MXGP class for Tim Gajser helped extend his lead over Antonio Cairoli to thirty-three points in the standings. Second position, with the same score as the winner, went to Romain Febvre who was very fast and consistent in both races. There was a good fourth place for Jeremy Seewer who missed the overall podium by only a handful of points but climbed to third place in the championship. Jeremy Van Horebeek finished fifth on a private Honda. There was incredible bad luck for Jeffrey Herlings who broke his ankle on the sighting lap. The Dutchman won the first Heat but did not start the second. After the good third place in race one a bad fall in the next moto forced Antonio Cairoli to retire due to a shoulder problem.

In Latvia Jorge Prado was still unbeatable in the MX2 class. The defending champion won Saturday's Qualification Heat and both races on Sunday to bring his lead in the standings to 30 points. Third place overall belonged to Thomas Kjer Olsen who remains firmly second in the championship.

Victory for Pirelli was also celebrated in the fifth round of the EMX250 European Championship thanks to Roan Van De Moosdijk’ double win. Jeremy Sydow took the third step of the podium in front of Stephen Rubini, fourth overall, who is still topping the championship standings with three races to go.

The spectacular Talkessel track in Teutschenthal will stage the Grand Prix of Germany next weekend for round ten.
