PIRELLI STILL ON TOP AT THE MOTOCROSS GRAND PRIX OF KEGUMS IN LATVIA

Jeffrey Herlings wins in MXGP and increases his advantage in the standings.
Jago Geerts wins in MX2 again but Tom Vialle defends his championship lead.

Kegums (Latvia) August 16th, 2020 – The Grand Prix of Kegums, the fifth round of the 2020 FIM Motocross World Championship, closed the series of three races held on the ‘Zelta Zirgs’ circuit that staged the restart of MXGP after a long stop.

Great results were achieved thanks to the performance of SCORPION™ MX SOFT, a tyre that features an important technological step for 2020, developed together with MXGP champions and that is designed to offer extraordinary performance specifically on soft terrain such as mud, sand or clay soil. The foremost news on the evolution of SCORPION™ MX SOFT consists of an improvement in the tread design and it features a new compound more resistant than its predecessor.

In particular, the scoop-shaped blocks offer high traction in soft conditions on mud and sand, whereas their distribution, that allows more distance between blocks, gives self-cleaning properties to the tyre. The evolution of SCORPION™ MX SOFT boasts a new innovative compound able to offer maximum resistance to heat and dynamic stress.

Jeffrey Herlings returned to victory in the MXGP class in Latvia. The Dutchman finished fourth in race one and won the second. The third step of the podium belonged to Jorge Prado who preceded Antonio Cairoli, who was very fast but was slowed down by a fall at the start of the first moto.

Jago Geerts and Tom Vialle shared the victories in the MX2 class but it was the Belgian who won the overall, repeating the success achieved last Wednesday. Third position and a third consecutive podium finish was taken by Roan Van De Moosdijk. There were significant performances also by Ben Watson and Maxime Renaux, who were fourth and fifth overall at the end of the race day.

Pirelli also confirmed its supremacy in the EMX250 and EMXOpen European Championships, which were won by Thibault Benistant and Kim Savaste.

After three consecutive races in Latvia, the 2020 FIM Motocross World Championship will resume its journey in three weeks time from Afyonkarahisar with the Grand Prix of Turkey, representing round six.
