Pirelli supplies more than 75 cars with the latest P Zero at the opening round of the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup

This weekend Pirelli will be supporting the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup and the Lamborghini Super Trofeo at Monza. This marks the start of the Blancpain endurance season, with the race lasting for three hours: a true test for driver, car and tyres. What's the circuit like? Monza, or the ‘Temple of Speed’ is located near Pirelli headquarters in Milan and has been home to the Italian Formula 1 Grand Prix since 1922. It is a high-speed circuit with long straights and fast corners, measuring 5.7 kilometres in length.

Which tyres is Pirelli bringing? Pirelli will bring its P Zero DHD tyre for the provisional Blancpain GT grid of 53 cars, as well as the dedicated P Zero DH slick for the Lamborghini Super Trofeo. Although warm weather is expected throughout the weekend, both championships will have the WH tyre available in case of rain. What are the most likely race strategies? The Blancpain GT race is an endurance competition and lasts three hours, with two pit stops expected. Teams must change tyres and driver: the timing of these stops forms the basis of the strategy, enabling places to be gained through clever pit work. Quotes: Matteo Braga, circuit activity manager: “After the British GT race at Oulton Park and the Blancpain GT Asia race in Sepang, now it’s time for Monza. The teams will be using our P Zero DHD tyre, which made its Blancpain debut at Misano a couple of weeks ago and of course is used in a variety of other GT3 championships as well. We’ve experienced the wet conditions of the UK, as well as the extreme heat in Malaysia, but now Monza provides another very different challenge: a high-speed circuit with long straights. We are expecting good weather, which will give the teams an opportunity to work with the new tyre and refine race strategy in stable conditions.” Qualifying for the Lamborghini Super Trofeo takes place on Saturday 22 April at 09.45 with race one at 15.00. Qualifying for the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup takes place at 09.50 followed by the three-hour race at 14.45 on Sunday 23 April. Race two of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo also takes place on Sunday at 11.20.
