Pirelli takes both victories in the Motocross Grand Prix of Lombardia at Mantova

Antonio Cairoli dominates the Grand Prix and consolidates his lead in the championship while Jorge Prado wins again in MX2 and closes on Thomas Kjer Olsen's Red Plate

After a five-week break the 2019 FIM Motocross World Championship resumed at Mantova for the Grand Prix of Lombardia; the fifth round of eighteen scheduled. The Italian track is formed from hard-packed sandy soil but, due to the overnight storm, became rough and extremely difficult. Once more riders supported by Pirelli were able to count on the excellent performance of the SCORPION™ MX32™ Mid Soft front and the SCORPION™ MX Soft rear: tires which allowed the Italian company to extend its positive streak this season and run of results in both classes.

Antonio Cairoli returned to victory in the MXGP category. The nine-times world champion took Pole and both races with a large margin over his opponents. Cairoli also extended his lead in the standings to forty points over Tim Gajser. Despite excellent speed the Slovenian made too many mistakes and failed to do better than sixth place overall. A good performance by Jeremy Seewer in seventh and Brian Bogerswas ninth overall with an excellent second position in the final race.

Jorge Prado celebrated a double victory in the MX2 class. The Spaniard was very cautious not make mistakes across a very difficult track. Thomas Olsen finished in second place and still holds the red plate even though his lead over the defending champion has been reduced to just seven points. Davy Pootjes walked the box for the first time in his career and, supported by a private team, achieved third position overall. Thanks to Mitchell Evans' fourth place, Pirelliachieved a fantastic straight flush in Mantova in the lower class.

Next weekend the riders will tackle the Grand Prix of Portugal which will be hosted by the spectacular track in Agueda.
