Pirelli takes four podium places in the FIA GT race at Oschersleben

PIRELLI TAKES FOUR PODIUM PLACES
IN THE FIA GT RACE AT OSCHERSLEBEN

P Zero Racing-equipped cars took a healthy slice of podium places in Germany, both in GT1 and GT2. In GT1 second place for the Maserati of Bertolini-Piccini ahead of the Aston Martin of Babini-Davies. In the GT2 class the Porsche of Collard-Malucelli took second spot on the podium, ahead of the Ferrari of Mullen-Janis.

Oschersleben, Germany, 9 July, 2007- Post race scrutineering, which went on till late Sunday evening, completely revolutionized the race results of the fifth round of the FIA GT Championship in Oschersleben. In the final classification four podium positions were won by Pirelli shod cars.

At the end of a very hard race, characterized by high summer temperatures which dominated both race tactics and tyre choice, in the GT1 class the Playteam Sarafree Maserati MC12 with Bertolini-Piccini at the wheel took a well deserved second place, ahead of the Aston Martin DBR9- Pirelli of AMR-BMS driven by Babini-Davies.

In GT2, the unique Pirelli-shod Porsche 997 GT3-RSR of Collard-Malucelli took second in class, just a half second ahead of the similarly Pirelli PZero Racing- shod Ferrari 430GTC of Janis-Mullen. The race strategy that saw the Scuderia Ecosse Ferraris dive into the pits for a lightning stop on lap one practically decided how the GT2 race would turn out. The Pirelli PZero Racing-equipped cars fought for the class lead throughout the race, before ending up on the podium.

Matteo Malucelli, the 22 year-old from Emilia, who once again proved his pace alongside the experienced Collard, said: "Today's race has been one of the best of my career. We were able to push hard, thanks also to Pirelli's tyres that held up well over the entire race distance. The proof is in the fact that Emmanuel was able to hold off the Janis-Mullen Ferrari until the chequered flag, though it was a close thing since the Scuderia Ecosse Ferrari 430GTC had the same advantage of running on PZero Racing?'

Also the duel between the Playteam Sarafree Maserati of Bertolini-Piccini and the AMR-BMS Aston Martin of Babini-Davies was a hard fought battle which kept the crowds on their feet, both cars of course shod with Pirelli PZero Racing.

At the end of the day, Bertolini-Piccini are now in second position in the Drivers Championship with Babini-Piccini close behind in fourth. The Playteam Sarafree Maseratis are now second in the Team championship, two places ahead of Aston Martin Racing-BMS.
