Pirelli three-peats in P2 class at Mosport
Clint Field & Robin Liddell Lead Intersport Team to Fourth Victory of Season Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada, August 8, 2004 - It was flawless. It really shows how great our combination is: Our drivers, our team, our car. Weve got a good streak going. Hopefully we can go to Road America and keep it alive. Those words, spoken by Clint Field at the end of the Toronto Grand Prix of Mosport, succinctly sum up another dominating performance by the Intersport Racing Lola/Judd that Field and co-driver Robin Liddell have now taken to its fourth P2-class win of the ALMS season. Once again, Field placed the Pirelli-sponsored Intersport entry on the P2 pole and Liddell followed up with his fourth fastest P2 race lap. Earlier this year, Clint Field finished third in class at the 12 Hours of Sebring won by the Pirelli-shod Miracle Motorsports team, giving Pirelli five victories in six rounds this season. Field also was the youngest driver ever to win Le Mans, leading the Intersport team to victory in P2 class this past June, three days before his 21 st birthday. The factory Corvettes finished 1-2 in GTS, but the ACEMCO Saleen S7R duo of Terry Borcheller and Johnny Mowlem gave the Vettes a run for their money and once again the Pirelli-shod S7R was the highest placing independent GTS team, finishing 3 rd . The car was brilliant, said Johnny Mowlem. We had pretty much an uneventful race. Terry drove an awesome stint. When I got in, I basically just cruised. We had done a double stint on the tires, so that helped out. Both Terry and I love this track, Mowlem continued. Its tough and demanding and you really have to concentrate to go fast here, but the fast sweeping turns are really well suited to the Saleen. The American Le Mans Series next moves to Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, August 20-22. The race on Sunday, August 22 will be televised live on the SPEED Channel from 2-5 p.m. (EDT).
