Pirelli wins all the classes in Sanremo and puts spotlight on youngsters in the Azores

It was an exciting weekend of international rallying for Pirelli, with a double triumph in Sanremo and a strong performance in the Azores, highlighting up and coming young talents. ERC – AZORES AIRLINES RALLY. At the first round of the FIA European Rally Championship, Alexey Lukyanuk, who finished second in the standings last year in his Pirelli-equipped Ford Fiesta, led throughout the opening leg before retiring on day two of the all-gravel event. The Under 28 Junior championship competitors using Pirelli tyres performed brilliantly, occupying the top four places in the Junior R5 Under 28 classification and forming the majority of competitors in the top seven. In second overall (and leading the Junior Under 28 classification) was Germany's Marijan Griebel in a Skoda Fabia, in third was Ireland's Josh Moffett with a Ford Fiesta, in fifth was Russia's Nikolay Gryazin (Skoda) and seventh was Latvia's Ralfs Sirmacis(Skoda). In the Junior R2 Under 27 series, which is exclusively supplied by Pirelli, Opel Adam driver Chris Ingram won, with Tamara Molinaro clinching the Ladies Cup classification. ITALIAN RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP – SANREMO RALLY. Paolo Andreucci and Anna Andreussi won the second round of the Italian Rally Championship, driving a Peugeot 208 T16 on Pirelli tyres. On the legendary Italian asphalt, the nine time Italian champion beat New Zealander Hayden Paddon, who launched his career thanks to the Pirelli Star Driver programme and is now a factory Hyundai driver on the WRC. Pirelli also won the historic rally with the Lancia Delta crew of 'Lucky’ and Pons, the recent winners of the latest European historic championship round in Spain. Pirelli additionally monopolised the Junior standings, with Marco Pollara leading home five other Peugeot 208 R2 cars on Pirelli P Zero tyres.
