PIRELLI WINS ONCE AGAIN THE "24 HOURS OF SPA" WITH THE FERRARI 430 GTC OF BMS-SCUDERIA ITALIA

After the good second place obtained in mid June at "24 Hours of Le Mans", the Italian team improves in this race valid for the FIA-GT Championship that is worth a season and obtained a second victory like last year. The Saleen S7-R of PeKa Racing team had to retire at mid race.

For the fourth year in a row a Pirelli-equipped car won the "24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps", the only endurance race in the FIA-GT Championship calendar and whose importance worth a whole season.
After two wins in the GT1 Class with Maserati (2005 and 2006) and last year achievement among the GT2 cars with Porsche 911 GT3-RS, the PZero Racing climb on the highest step of the podium thanks to the Ferrari 430 GTC di BMS-Scuderia Italia (class GT2).

With this same car Pirelli obtained in mid June an excellent class second place at "24 Hours of Le Mans". Now the sport car of the Italian team, driven by Malucelli-Ruberti-Rigon-Camathias, improved still further the result. It has been in the lead for over two thirds of the entire distance of the race without any technical problem.

The performances of car, crew and tyres are even more important considering the changeable weather conditions. During the two hours length of the race cars run under pouring rain but also on dry asphalt and both Pirelli technicians and BMS-Scuderia Italia had to evaluate and adjust strategies and tyres choice following weather oddness.

Not very lucky the long-awaited Pirelli-equipped Saleen S7-R of the Belgian PeKa Racing team. The beautiful American super-car has been obliged to retire due to technical problems while it was among the leaders of the GT1 Class.

Various problems slowed down several other entrants also equipped with the Italian manufactured tyres. Like the Ferrari 430 GTC of the Ecosse team (finishing 8th in the GT2 Class) and Easy Race team (11th in the same Class), this last one preceded under the checkered flag by the PZero Racing-equipped Porsche 911 GT3-RS of Trackspeed team.
