Salt Lake City – Round 7 – SBK Race report

354_P07_Checa_actionAll Superbike riders found the best performance from Pirelli’s newest “A” soft compound Diablo Superbike solutions, which yielded a 10 sec. race time improvement in Race 1 and a 13 sec. improvement in Race 2 versus last year, along with a new lap record of 1’48.045 set by Carlos Checa in R1 before being forced to retire with an electronics issue.  Aprilia Racing’s change from the B to the A front tyre solution allowed the team to find a better feeling and to gain podium finishes for both riders. Optimal results also came in the Supersport race as a lap record was set by Kenan Sofuoglu and 6 of the 19 riders recorded their best laps in the last quarter of the race. Eugene Laverty was even able to reach within 0.1 sec of Sofuoglu’s new lap record of 1’51.702 on the very last lap of the race. The SBK race at Miller Motorsports Park is important for Pirelli since the track is still new with respect to tyre development and thus offers our already high-performing racing range new layer of versatility.
