Solberg and Subaru win in Greece!

Petter Solberg's Pirelli-equipped Subaru Impreza WRC2004 has won the Acropolis Rally, the second win of the season for Pirelli and Subaru. The Norwegian ended the second leg with a minute's lead, but this was slashed to 30 seconds following a penalty for not mounting mudflaps in front of the rear wheels after service. Despite this, the Pirelli driver won by 18.4 seconds from the Citroen of Sebastien Loeb. In today's hot conditions, Petter once again used Pirelli's new XR3 evolution tyres. Unfortunately, his young team mate Mikko Hirvonen was forced to retire after rolling his car yesterday, after a promising performance. This is the 132nd World Championship rally victory for Pirelli, but without penalties or problems Petter could have added victories in Mexico and Cyprus to those gained in New Zealand and now in Greece. This clearly demonstrates the superiority of Pirellis PZero tyres on every gravel surface. On the rough gravel of Greece - considered to be the toughest in the world - Pirelli has an exemplary record. On the Acropolis 10 years ago, Carlos Sainz took the first win with the Pirelli-Subaru package. Since 1994, the PZero tyres have won seven times with two different car manufacturers. Pirellis rally manager Fiorenzo Brivio comments: "Just one type of tyre - the XR - was used to win an unpredictable Acropolis Rally, which contained conditions which varied from hard rock to mud. I think this is enough to show the superiority of the PZero XR tyres, which have become part of the history of the world championship's toughest rally".
