Tailor-made tyres for different partners That is Pirelli's news for the 2005 FIA-GT Milan, 7 April 2005 - After the optimum results achieved during the 2004 FIA-GT Championship, prominent among which were the two victories of the Maserati MC12s at Oscherlsleben and Zhuhai, the three wins by the Saleen S7-Rs at Magny-Cours, Brno and Imola and the excellent second place by the Ferrari 575 GTC in the demanding 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, Pirelli Competizioni has further reinforced its commitment for the championship's 2005 season. From the first race of the season, scheduled for 10 April at Monza, the Corvette C5R of GPLK-Carsport will join the Ferraris, Maseratis and Saleens that already compete on the Italian tyres. In the case of the Maseratis, Pirelli P Zeros will be fitted to the MC12s fielded by the JMB and Vitaphone teams, the latter also being able to count on the positive contribution of Fabio Babini, Pirelli's official test driver. The Pirelli Competizioni supported Saleen S7-Rs will be entered by two top class teams, Konrad Motorsport and Graham Nash Motorsport. As Pierluigi De Cancellis, the Pirelli Competizioni circuit manager, revealed, " The 2005 season sees Pirelli in a position to do well, since all the cars that fit our tyres are among the favourites for eventual success in this hard fought championship" . In the case of the Maseratis, equipped exclusively with P Zeros, and the Saleen S7-Rs, the Milanese technician says, " During the winter, we carried out in-depth development test sessions, which have enabled us to prepare completely new compounds and structures that revealed themselves to be competitive on circuits completely different from each other, like Le Castellet in France and Estoril in Portugal". De Cancellis also highlights the positive results derived from the Pirelli P Zero development sessions that took place in Portugal, Italy and France with cars of traditional configuration (front engine, rear-wheel drive), underlining the consistent progress evidenced at a timed performance level and in the life of the tyres. The Milanese engineer also explained the most indicative differences in the conception of the P Zeros to be used by the various cars. " Let us not forget that Pirelli also supplies its tyres to various teams that compete with Ferrari 360 GTCs and Porsche 996 GT3 RSRs in the GT2 class, during testing for which we came up with new slick tyre developments, created for each different kind of car typology. Specific compounds and structures have been developed for models with centrally located engines (the Maseratis and Saleens) and the same thing has been done for the Ferraris and Corvette, both with their engines up front".
