THE NEW EUROPEAN TYRE LABEL COMES INTO FORCE: CINTURATO P7 BLUE IS THE FIRST TYRE IN THE WORLD WITH AN ‘AA’ RATING

FROM 1 NOVEMBER 2012 IT WILL BECOME COMPULSORY BY LAW FOR TYRES TO DISPLAY INFORMATION ABOUT ENERGY EFFICIENCY, SAFETY AND EXTERNAL NOISE

From 1 November 2012 the new European tyre label will come into force for aftermarket tyres. This will give consumers information about three key elements that will allow them to assess the characteristics and quality of every tyre on sale. The European label will display information about fuel consumption (associated with rolling resistance), safety (associated with wet grip) and external noise. Energy efficiency and safety are rated from A to G while external noise is measured in decibels and illustrated by a sound wave symbol. Pirelli is the first tyre company in the world to be present on the market with an ‘AA’ tyre. The latest product from Pirelli’s renowned Cinturato family, the P7 Blue, is in fact the sole tyre to have achieved a top score on the European tyre label. Thanks to reduced wet braking distances and lowered rolling resistance –which leads to a reduction in fuel consumption – Cinturato P7 Blue guarantees: - Reduced wet braking distances of 9% compared to a ‘B’ rated tyre in the same category. In comparative tests conducted by the respected TÜV SÜD certification body, P7 Blue was found to reduce wet braking distances by 2.6 metres from 80kph compared to a ‘B’ rated tyre. - A 23% reduction in rolling resistance compared to a ‘C’ rated tyre, which means lower fuel consumption and fewer noxious emissions. For example, a saloon car equipped with P7 Blue tyres that cover 15,000 kilometres a year, will use 5.1% less fuel: equivalent to a saving of 52 litres. It will also put out 123.5 fewer kilograms of CO2 emissions. Download photo (89,9 KB)
