The Pirelli Indonesian Round closes out the MOTUL FIM World Superbike Championship crowing Toprak Razgatlioglu World Champion

Pirelli is extremely satisfied with the performance of their standard DIABLO SUPERBIKE and DIABLO RAIN tyres which did a superb job tackling the brand new and demanding Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit in any weather conditions

The final day of racing at the Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit was one of the best season finales ever, closing out the 2021 MOTUL FIM World Superbike Championship season spectacularly.

Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha with BRIXX WorldSBK / Yamaha YZF R1) was declared 2021 WorldSBK champion, Yamaha’s second World Superbike Championship title after the one Ben Spies took home in 2009.

The Italian tyre manufacturer is extremely satisfied with the outstanding performance and versatility of their standard DIABLO SUPERBIKE and DIABLO RAIN tyres on this brand new circuit which proved to be particularly demanding, both because of the abrasive nature of the new asphalt and the high temperatures.

In the WorldSBK category, both of the standard solutions were used with success (SC1 and SC2) at the front, as were the standard SCX and SC0 at the rear, resulting in heated and thrilling races from start to finish. In Race 2 of the WorldSBK class, raced in a constant, driving rain, the standard DIABLO RAIN tyres in SCR1 compound performed superbly, allowing the riders to compete for the last victory of the season in one of the most spectacular and thrilling final battles ever.

Pirelli closes out its eighteenth season as Sole Tyre Supplier for all the classes in the MOTUL FIM World Superbike Championship with great satisfaction in the work done during a year with one of the most fascinating and thrilling Superbike seasons ever. Like every year, the Italian tyre manufacturer worked to improve its products both to the advantage of the riders who race in the factory derivative championship and in favour of all motorcycle riders who can easily purchase these products on the market.

Furthermore, it is particularly significant for Pirelli to be present and finish the WorldSBK championship in Indonesia, a country that hosts one of the group’s industrial plants dedicated to motorcycle tyre production, a strategic site for Pirelli’s growth in the territory and in the entire Southeast Asian region.

WorldSBK Race 1:

Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK / Kawasaki ZX-10RR) had the best start of all the riders, moving into the lead ahead of Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha with BRIXX WorldSBK / Yamaha YZF R1), who wasted no time trying to overtake, succeeding during the second lap. Behind them were Ducati rider Scott Redding (ARUBA.IT Racing - Ducati / Ducati Panigale V4 R) and BMW rider Tom Sykes (BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team / BMW M 1000 RR). In the first part of the race, Axel Bassani (Motocorsa Racing / Ducati Panigale V4 R) demonstrated an outstanding pace, starting from the seventh spot on the grid and reaching podium positions, even threatening Razgatlioglu and Rea, shuffling the entire deck. Fans got quite the show, with the leadership changing hands constantly among the three riders. At the mid race point, the two championship title contenders pulled away from the rest and Rea stayed at the front for several laps until another Ducati - Redding’s - caught up and joined the battle for the race lead. Razgatlioglu went wide and dropped back to third, with Rea fastest of them all, battling it out with Redding for the win. The final laps were no less spectacular, filled with upsets and surprises. Rea finished first for the Race 1 victory, but it was Razgatlioglu who clinched the title of 2021 WorldSBK champion with a second-place finish and Scott Redding rounded out the podium in third place.

The Pirelli solutions chosen by the riders for WorldSBK Race 1, WorldSBK Race 2 and WorldSSP Race 2:

In Race 1 of WorldSBK, most of the riders on the grid preferred racing on medium solutions at the front and soft at the rear. Fifteen riders chose the standard medium SC2 solution (option B) at the front, with Álvaro Bautista (Team HRC / Honda CBR1000 RR-R), Michael Ruben Rinaldi (ARUBA.IT Racing - Ducati / Ducati Panigale V4 R) and Samuele Cavalieri (Barni Racing Team / Ducati Panigale V4 R) going against the trend and putting on the standard soft SC1. For the rear, the majority of the preferences on the grid fell to the standard soft SC0 solution (option B). Four riders went another route, preferring the standard super soft SCX (option A): Tom Sykes (BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team / BMW M 1000 RR), Álvaro Bautista, Michael van der Mark (BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team / BMW M 1000 RR) and Tito Rabat (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing / Kawasaki ZX-10RR).

In WorldSSP Race 2, rider choice was practically unanimous. At the rear, all the riders opted for the standard SC0 (option A), whereas at the front, the choice fell to the standard soft SC2 solution (option A).

WorldSBK Race 2 was declared a Wet Race, so all the riders on the grid raced on standard DIABLO Rain tyres in SCR1 compound (option R).
