PIRELLI DOMINATES THE MOTOCROSS GRAND PRIX OF FLANDERS IN LOMMEL

Tim Gajser wins in MXGP and increases his lead in the championship. Tom Vialle is the winner in MX2 and keeps the red plate.

The historical Lommel circuit hosted the Grand Prix of Flanders, the thirteenth round of the 2020 FIM Motocross World Championship and the first of the latest triple header that will be held on the Belgian sand over the next seven days. The circuit had been changed from the usual layout to become even faster and more technical. To tackle one of the most demanding tracks of the entire season, Pirelli riders relied on the SCORPION™ MX32™ Mid Soft front and SCORPION MX™ Soft rear tires combined with a medium mousse. It was a triumphant day for Pirelli: the brand swept overall podiums in both classes.

Tim Gajser claimed the victory in the MXGP category. The reigning champion finished runner-up in the first moto and won the second one, bringing his championship lead over Antonio Cairoli to 48 points. The Italian was ninth at the end of the day. The second step of the podium was taken by Gautier Paulin who preceded Jorge PradoJeremy Seewer also performed well and finished in fifth position.

Tom Vialle took his sixth win of the season in the MX2 class. The Frenchman fronted his main rival Jago Geerts by just one point. The latter earned second overall and now is 53 points behind Vialle in the standings. An excellent third place belonged to the first moto winner Ben WatsonPirelli filled the top seven positions of the overall classification thanks to fourth place by Maxime Renaux, fifth by Thomas Kjer Olsen, sixth by Roan Van De Moosdijk, seventh by Jed Beaton and the eighth by Isak Gifting.

There was a great victory for Thibault Benistant in the penultimate round of the EMX250 European Championship. The Frenchman consolidated his margin at the top of the championship standings. Hakon Fredriksen and Kay De Wolf in third and fourth positions confirmed the excellent results by Pirelli riders in the continental series. Max Palsson was third overall in the seventh round of EMX125 while Pirelli are able to boast three riders in the top five of the championship standings.

In two days time the riders will tackle Lommel again for the Grand Prix of Limburg. The meeting will represent the fourteenth round of the 2020 FIM Motocross World Championship and the second of the triple header that will be held across the sandy terrain.
