PIRELLI DOMINATES THE MOTOCROSS GRAND PRIX OF RIGA AT KEGUMS

In the MXGP class Antonio Cairoli takes a 90th career victory. Jeffrey Herlings keeps his lead in the championship. Jago Geerts wins in MX2 and nears series leader Tom Vialle.

Kegums (Latvia) August 12th, 2020 – The 'Zelta Zirgs' circuit in Kegums hosted the fourth round of the 2020 FIM Motocross World Championship, the Grand Prix of Riga, the second consecutive race of three held on the sandy Latvian track. Overcast skies and lower temperatures accompanied the day of competition. Once again Pirelli-equipped riders relied on SCORPION MX™ 32™ Mid Soft front tires and the rear SCORPION MX™ Soft combined with a medium/hard mousse.

Antonio Cairoli took victory in the MXGP class, hitting the ninetieth success in his fantastic career. The nine-time world champion won the first moto and finished the second in fourth place. Jeremy Seewer and Jeffrey Herlings finished the GP on equal points but it was the Swiss who climbed the second step of the podium thanks to his superior ranking in race 2. After today's results Herlings consolidates his leadership in the championship standings bringing his advantage to twenty-eight points over Tim Gajser, who was fifth in the second race but forced to retire in the first after a heavy crash.

Pirelli swept the top seven positions in the MX2 class. Overall victory went to Jago Geerts who won both motos. Behind him Roan Van De Moosdijk and Mathys Boisrame repeated last Sunday’ good performances by classifying second and third. Red Plate holder Tom Vialle finished fourth overall ahead of Maxime RenauxJed Beaton and Mikkel Haarup respectively.

Thierry Benistant dominated both races in the third round of the EMX250 European Championship. The Frenchman leads the series followed by Isak Gifting who finished third overall on equal points with Norwegian Hakon Fredriksen.

Karel Kutsar and Kim Savaste tied for victory in the second round of the EMXOpen but the Latvian earned the top step of the podium courtesy of his second race ranking. Thanks to the Kegums’ victory, Kutsar assumes control of the championship and Savaste is second.

Next Sunday, the Latvian track will host the Grand Prix of Kegums, fifth seasonal round of Motocross World Championship and third consecutive race held in Latvia.
