Pirelli head to Thailand with Moto2™ and Moto3™ for the first GP of 2025
For the opening race of the new season, Pirelli is offering standard solutions to both classes, which were previously used by the riders last year
· Pirelli's second season as sole supplier of the Moto2™ and Moto3™ World Championships will kick off this weekend at the Chang International Circuit in Buriram, Thailand. The riders in the two classes will have the same compounds as in 2024 at their disposal, which have proven to be the right choice for this circuit.
· There are two new features for this year: the new 3.5-inch front rim for Moto2™, used last week in the Jerez tests, and the introduction of the minimum rear tyre pressure for Moto3™, which by regulation must now be no less than 1.5 bar (22 psi).
· The circuit is located in an area dominated by a typically tropical climate and tends to be very hot and, at the beginning of March, temperatures could be higher than in the 2024 edition which was held at the end of October. In last week's MotoGP tests, however, the temperatures were lower than last year's race temperatures.
· The Chang International Circuit is not one of the most difficult tracks of the season for the tyres, but it is still challenging because it is characterised by a good number of long and fast corners where the grip at maximum angle is very important and can be a determining factor for victory.
Our goal: to do even better than last season
"After the tests in Portimão and Jerez, which were extremely positive for Pirelli, we are excited to start our second season as the sole supplier to Moto2™ and Moto3™ World Championships. We will face this first GP with the same compounds selected for this circuit last year, both because they have proven to be valid solutions and because we believe it is important to give teams and riders the opportunity to have a constant component in the tyres that allows them to verify and finalise the progress made during the winter in the development of the machines. Using the same tyres will allow them to have data that is more easily comparable with those of last season. It should be remembered, however, that we arrive to Buriram at a different time than last year; therefore, there may be different weather conditions. At the Thai Grand Prix, we will also see the young promises of the Asia Talent Cup in action, who will use SC2 compound tyres for both axles. The rookies who arrived in Moto3™ from this championship have adapted quickly, a sign that our project of giving continuity to the riders through the tyres during their professional growth path is the right approach. Even though we had a record-breaking season last year, our goal for 2025 does not change either: we want to do even better and continue to improve our products. I wish everyone a good season".
