Pole and all-time lap record for Holgado in Moto2™ and Fernández in Moto3™
The new records were improved by more than 1.5 seconds in Moto2™ and by 1 second and 3 tenths in Moto3™ and almost all the riders lapped below the track best times
· The CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team rider, Daniel Holgado (Kalex), took pole in Moto2™ in the last round of the Motorcycle World Championship, the Grand Prix of the Valencian Community 2025. Behind him, Izan Guevara (Boscoscuro), second, and Senna Agius (Kalex) third. Lapping in 1'31.715, the poleman also set a new all-time lap record, improving the time set by Fermín Aldeguer (1'33.264) in 2023 by over 1.5 seconds. 25 out of 27 riders lapped faster than the previous track best time, all using soft SC1 front and supersoft E0126 rear tyres.
· Adrián Fernández (Honda) took pole for tomorrow's Moto3™ race, and, with a time of 1'36.990 on the second to last lap out of 7, also set the new all-time lap record, improving Darryn Binder’s 2020 record (1'38.286) by almost 1.3 seconds. 24 of the 26 riders lapped below the previous track best time, including second-placed David Almansa (Honda) and third-placed Máximo Quiles (KTM). However, the two Leopard Racing team riders opted for a different tyre combo: the poleman used medium SC2 front in combination with soft SC1 rear tyres, while Almansa opted for SC1 both front and back. Finally, Quiles chose the medium SC2 for both the front and rear tyres.
· On these first two days, track temperatures stayed below 25 °C, with Friday afternoon's Practice being the hottest session. Qualifying for both classes took place with cloudy skies and just around 20°C of air and asphalt temperature.
Immediate boost to the riders speed and vastly improved all-time lap records
"In both classes, starting with the FP1 on Friday morning with the track still rubbering in and asphalt temperatures relatively low, the riders were very fast compared to the reference laps, which, for this track, were still those set with tyres from the former supplier, since this GP race was not held last year. In Friday's Practice, the all-time lap records had already been improved by at least 9 tenths, and in Qualifying they were further tweaked, with Holgado lapping more than 1.5 seconds faster in Moto2™ than the 2023 best time, and Fernandez improving by 1 second and three tenths over Binder’s 2020 record in Moto3™. As often happens, almost all riders lapped under the previous records, so the improvement was cross-cutting, and not due to individual performances alone. As for the tyres, Moto2™ riders’ propensity was clear from the start: after a quick comparison in FP1 between the two rear options - the supersoft E0126 and the soft E0125 - everyone opted for the softer compound, which provides more grip, exactly as in other occasions this year. They then used it in combination with the soft SC1 front tyre, in all subsequent sessions, including Qualifying, of course. We therefore expect in tomorrow's race for all riders to opt for the SC1 front-E0126 rear combination. As for Moto3™, the soft SC1 rear option is certainly more performing on the flying lap, and for this reason it was preferred in Qualifying. However, during the race, most riders will likely choose the medium SC2 which, over the distance, maintains the performance more consistent. The medium SC2 tyre is widely preferred over the soft for the front. This circuit is particularly hard on the left tyre side, especially in the first three corners and then in the following 8, 13 and 14, and this can trigger higher levels of wear than other tracks. Therefore, careful tyre management in the first part of the race will be the key to success."
