Baltus and Pini the fastest ever in Moto2™ and Moto3™ at Brno

· Barry Baltus (Kalex) is the fastest rider ever in the Moto2™ class at the recently resurfaced Automotodrom Brno circuit, where the Grand Prix of Czechia is being held. Behind the Belgian were Joe Roberts (Kalex) in second position and Marcos Ramirez (Kalex) in third. In qualifying, all the riders used soft SC1 compound tyres at the front and E0125 development soft at the rear, with the exception of poleman Baltus who set the fastest time in both Q1 and Q2 with the medium SC2 front.
 
· Guido Pini (KTM) took his first pole ever in Moto3™ on his sixth and final lap, after getting the better of two other KTM riders: José Antonio Rueda, second at 26 thousandths of a second behind the poleman, and David Muñoz, third at 38 thousandths. All three used medium SC2 compound tyres at the front and soft SC1 at the rear.
 
· All-time lap records shattered. Already in the Practice sessions on Friday afternoon most of the riders in both classes fell below the previous track record laps, and the new benchmarks were set in today's qualifying sessions. In Moto2™, Baltus' time of 1'58.322 improves by more than 3 seconds on the time set by Alex Marquez in 2019 (2'01.463) while in Moto3™ Guido Pini, lapping in 2'05.019, beat the record that Alex Rins had held since 2014 (2'07.622), improving it by 2.6 seconds. 
 
· Variable weather and temperatures. In FP1 on Friday morning, held in the wet, the lowest track temperatures were recorded, around 20°C, while the hottest session was qualifying, which took place with around 40°C on the asphalt.

New all-time lap records with Pirelli tyres on the new asphalt
 
"The weekend kicked off yesterday with the morning sessions, both held on a wet track with rain tyres. However, already in the afternoon practice sessions on a dry track, even if still wet at times, we saw how fast the riders were, with 28 out of 30 in Moto2™ and 21 out of 25 in Moto3™ lapping under the all-time lap records set by Alex Marquez in 2019 and Alex Rins in 2013 respectively. Today, with warmer temperatures and a decent track evolution, the times have improved further, and in qualifying the riders of both categories beat the previous record laps of the track with Baltus and Pini who set the new benchmarks, improving the previous records by more than 3 seconds in Moto2™ and 2.6 seconds in Moto3™. An impressive result, thanks to the new asphalt and the evolution of the bikes in recent years as well as the performance of the Pirelli tyres. This circuit mainly engages the fronts, so far the tyre wear is good and could improve even more if the temperatures were to increase, but if it were to get very hot over the race distance the riders will be called upon to manage the front. In Moto2™ the most used solutions were the softs, i.e. the E0125 development specification at the rear and the SC1 at the front. The E0125 is performing very well and will certainly be the race reference; at the front we have riders who are working well with the soft SC1 and others who will focus on the medium SC2. Also in Moto3™, we will see both soft SC1 and medium SC2 in action at the front, while at the rear the medium SC2 over race distance could be favoured over the soft SC1 because it is more consistent".
